Windows 8.1 - Device Manager Don't Remove Driver
Mar 1, 2014I installed my fresh Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bits (build 9600), on my Acer V3-571G laptop.
When I go to device manager, and I want uninstall this driver.
--> Imaging devices
--> and Bluetooth,
When I Disable and Uninstall them, then, it's seems te drivers are gone! But when I restarts mine Laptop, the Imaging devices and bluetooth, comes back?
Why is that? How I can complete remove that? In the standard Windows 8 (not 8.1) that was possible? But 8.1?

Dec 3, 2013My c drive is starting to fill up, so I decided to move and reorganize some "stuff". Everything went fine and I have a full backup on an external 3TB drive. I also have two separate 2 TB external drives and all is fine.
My last task, before moving/deleting all my pictures and videos (30.000 in total) off my c drive, was to format all my other internal drives and/or remove/upgrade them to bigger ones and this is where I ran into a problem.
I have win 8.1 with all service updates as of today. My computer specs are all in my info.
I want to remove the drive G: and replace it with a 2TB one, I deleted everything from the old drive, but when I removed it, I got a boot error.
What I found was, that the hidden files in the picture bellow are still on it and needed to boot.
How can I move these files onto my C: drive?
I found one tip, to use this command: bcdboot c:windows /s c: but it didn't change the fact that the computer doesn't boot without the G: drive attached.

Sep 15, 2011I am trying to install the new develp build of Windows 8 (x86) on my asus eeepc 1005pe. This is a netbook which doesnt even have a cd/dvd drive.
So anyway, I extracted the iso on a bootable usb flash drive. I boot, and when I click install it just hangs for about 10 minutes and then it gives me this error:
I tried setting the bios from AHCI to IDE. This does not work, I even get a bluescreen of death when I boot up in the current win7 sp1 install. But anyway on google I read a lot about this problem and one of the solutions is to put it on AHCI.. but not for me as it was already on AHCI. Anyway IDE is not workin either.
Just recently I installed win7sp1 on this netbook without a problem. I checked the sha1 hashes of the Windows 8 ISO and they are confirmed, so that is not the problem either.
Hardware Drivers :: Back Up To External Hard Drive - I/O Device Error
Sep 8, 2013I have been experiencing problems trying to back up to external hard drive this week and keep getting an I/O Error with various error messages including 0x8007045D My Hard Drive is "G" and I can see it through my computer no problem and I also have my ITunes library on it and the ITunes music is working fine.
I am getting a message in Action Centre saying my Back Up did not complete successfully and then I have the option of Try to Run Again or change back up settings. If I select Try to Run again windows cannot find the disk or network location and if I change settings "G" does not appear. It seems Back Up has detected an error on my "G" which is preventing it from running the back up.
Also in Disk Management I am prompted to initialise a disc before logical disc manager can access it so I select MBR and I get I/O device error and disk 1/G is unknown/not initialised.I have tried powering the external drive off/on and also disconnecting it from the computer but no difference and at present I cannot save anything to the external hard drive. There is a previous back up already on the hard drive but this is not accessible at present.clearing this error so I can back up again without loosing what is stored on the hard drive in particular my ITunes library.
Hardware Drivers :: Cannot Safely Remove External USB 3.0 Drive With Win 8.1
Nov 10, 2013I'm unable to 'Safely remove' or 'Eject' external USB 3.0 drives (I have 2) on my Lenovo Thinkpad running Wndows 8.1 without having the computer claim that the drive needs to be scanned for errors when the drive is reconnected to the same laptop or attached to my desktop PC's.
When I connect the same drives to my desktop PC's USB3 ports I initially get the same "scan for errors" prompt. But any further attaching and removal of the same drives to either my Windows 7(64) and Vista (64) dsktop PCs's does not reproduce the same error and further safe removal and reconnecting to those 2 systems is error free.
When scanned for errors there has never been any errors discovered. The 2.5" drives (one Seagate the other WD) are in Vantec USB 3.0 external enclosures that use a '2x USB plugs' cable; one for data and one for power. My usual removal method is to click on the 'Windows Explorer Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' icon on the Taskbar and select Eject for the drive and then wait until the 'Safe to remove' message pops up before removing the single cable attached to the external enclosure.
The USB Controllers are:
Intel(R) Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Coltroller - 1E26
Intel(R) Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Coltroller - 1E2D
Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)
I unsuccessfully tried updating the Intel(R) Series/C216 Chipset controller to v9.4.0.126 but it's still at v9.3.0.1011.
If it's a USB 3.0 driver/firmware related, or a 'feature' of Windows 8.1?
I can live with the problem as I'm sure that the drive is not being removed while data is being written, and Indexing is disabled on external drives. But I prefer using a computer that does not exhibit these sort of problems.

Feb 8, 2014I have question: Could I use my external hard drive (removed from it's casing obviously) and replace my internal hard drive with it?
Here's more context: I recently bought a Kingston V300 120GB SSD to replace my old HDD in my laptop and give it a boost. Performance is noticeably faster (the fresh install of Win 8.1 might have worked too) but the 120GB are filling up quite fast however.
As I was running my defrag program to check if any external drives needed defragging I was surprised to see that my 1TB USB 3.0 Toshiba Stor.E Basics showed up as an SSD along with my Kingston (and thus no need to defrag ). So I asked myself, could I use that drive as my internal drive instead of the Kingston?
My questions are:
- Will it work?
- If yes, does it need to be configured in any way first?
- Would there be compatibility issues? My laptop is SATA 2 and I guess the drive in the Toshiba would be SATA 3.
- Would read/write speeds maybe be too slow to run the computer properly?

I've scanned with Antivirus, nothing found

Feb 8, 2014Last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
Does Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?
I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Aug 12, 2014I have created a shutdown shortcut on my Win 8.1 tablet that works nicely.
My tablet has a physical button on the side that is used to put the tablet into instant sleep mode.
You press the button and the tablet immediately turns off (goes to sleep).
You press the button again and the tablet immediately turns on again (comes out of sleep).
I would like to create a shortcut on my desktop (NOT the Metro start screen) that will function the same way the
physical button does, that is, the tablet will immediately turn off (goes to sleep).
Someone posted something close, but not quite the same thing; ....powrprof.dll.SetSuspendState Sleep. When I create a shortcut with the above code the tablet actually *shuts down*. I know this because when I press the power button the tablet goes through the cold start up routine.
I would like the shortcut to do EXACTLY the same thing that happens when I press the power button on the tablet; go *immediately* into sleep. And pressing the power button after that should turn the tablet *immediately* back on.

Oct 4, 2014Symptom: I cannot toggle the sleep mode from either my keyboard shortcut or in the menu of windows 8. Both options, shutdown and restart, work perfectly fine but sleep won't work. Here is what happens when I toggle sleep: My screen shuts down but the fans still are blowing. Whenever I move my mouse or press on any peripherals the screens instantly comes back even tho I've unchecked all options allowing peripherals to wake the computer.
What I've done so far: I've tried many commands on an elevated cmd window. I've check every device in "Device manager" to see if they were allowed to wake the computer and when they were, I removed them this permission. I've updated my bios to the latest version. I've tried to check out some "s1" "s2" "s3" settings in my bios but I've found nothing that would work in my case. I thought that maybe fans weren't shutting down because of heat problems. But my system is water cooled always below 40 degrees Celsius, so definitely heat is not a problem.

Jun 19, 2013 Being impossible to get my dial-up shortcut from the desktop onto the taskbar of my new Windows 8 laptop, I followed the tutorial to add Quick Launch toolbar to the taskbar, and successfully moved the shortcut tothere.
With Vista, XP etc, one click on Quick Launch toolbar shortcut icon would open this "Connect TPG" window shown below. You then just clicked <Dial> button to connect directly to the ISP.
(Note: TPG is the name of the ISP)
However, with my Windows 8, three mouse operations all over the screen are required to arrive at this window:
1. You click the Quick Launch shortcut icon and the Charms sidebar opens.
2. Then you have to select the ISP under the Connections header,which causes a <Connect> button to pop up.
3. Which when clicked finally brings you to the above "Connect TPG" window.
how to open this window directly from the Quick Launch toolbar or how to pin a shortcut to the taskbar to achieve the same outcome?
NB, pinning "Network Connections" shortcut to taskbar is not the answer, as you still then required to the go through the same 3 operations mentioned above.

Windows 8 Lenovo E540 Laptop - Shortcut Keys Not Updating To New Settings
Sep 15, 2014I just bought my first Windows 8 laptop, a Lenovo e540. Above the dedicated number pad is a key with a calculator printed on it. Pressing this key of course brings up the 'Calculator' program that comes with Widows. I however strongly dislike said program and have no intention to use it. Instead I aim to have this calculator key open up my preferred calculator, which at this point is SpeQ.
So I created a shortcut for SpeQ and in the shortcut panel of the properties window I set it to the calculator button (which says its "ctrl + alt + F" in the shortcut box). I then found the shortcut for 'calculator' and set the shortcut key to 'None'. BUT... even after double checking that the settings were as intended and restarting the computer, the calculator key still opens up the old program. Additionally, despite "ctrl + Alt + F" appearing in the text box next to shortcut key, typing this opens neither program.

With programs it is easy - right click and it says pin to taskbar. With Java it seems not to be possible. There is no such option on the context menu.
