Windows 8.1 Enterprise won't shutdown anymore !! I did some research and found the problem in the registry key HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Manager .
The key that prevents windows to shutdown is BootExecute value autocheck autochk *
If I delete the key then windows shutdown normally !! I did check all my drives with chkdsk and no problems where found there . How I can fix this without deleting the autocheck key ??
I want to get started with WP8/8.1 dev and I decided to dual boot on my work laptop (Mac Book).
The problem is I don't want to use my Dreamspark (OEM as far as I know) license on my work PC since it's an academic license if I'm not mistaking and this might cause some problems at work, and I also don't want to activate it on my 6 years old PC since I have some projects still going on and I'm planning on upgrading sometime next year.
So my question(s) is simple: Can I install the 90 days trial of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and reinstall again, on same PC after the trial is over?
It's posible to upgrade from windows 7 Professional to Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation keeping all programs, files?
I have tried the registry trick but doesn't work for me. It always detect the correct version installed.

I already install Windows 8 Enterprise, When I log in as Domain account (Member of Local Administrator Group) I was trying to Setup File History but when I click on File History it does nothing. I tried to enable it Logging as Local User and I can view the option when I click File History in Control Panel. Apparently this is something that is happening with the Domain account. From what I am reading online, Windows 8 Enterprise must be upgraded via iso to Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I read a few user saying there is no upgrade and you have to do a fresh install of Windwos 8.1 Enterprise. I do not want to lose my customizations, files, and programs.
First, I tried to edit the 'hosts' file but wasn't let save the change as having no permission. I'm the only user and administrator. I took over ownership and gave full rights to myself, rebooted, still the same.
Second, I tried to run notepad as administrator for the same reason. It wouldn't open. Then, I wanted to start it from an elevated command prompt, but cmd didn't start as admin either. This, like notepad, opened nicely as 'normal', neither as admin.

The volume for media playback is way to low in windows I have tried everything from disabling enhancements, I also have installed SRS HD audio software also with low volume.
An audio booster, or anything that would boost SRS Audio output. I also after using the default driver provided by Windows 8, updated to the newest Realtek HD driver, and still no difference.
I will install W8 enterprise on my dell latitude e6220. I got a dvd with the 32 bit enterprise iso and a txt file with the key. The txt file with the key says "works for pro and enterprise".
However, when I boot the dvd, it wont boot.. It only give me the blue w8 screen, but it wont go longer. A pop up says i need the 64 bit iso..
Can I download the 64 bit w8 enterprise iso from mdl and use my key..?? I suppose its an master key because the the company use the same key on hundred of w8 computers..
Next question: Is the language packs avabile in WU in enterprise?
Is it true there is a performance benefit to running special Enterprise mode? How do I get it to work?

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. I don't even make it to the following screen ....
I have Windows 8.1 Core and Enterprise dual booted. Now, the real question here is, well I've read online that Windows 8.1 had finally added some of the encryption functionality of Bitlocker in a limited sense setup and turned on by default in all editions of Windows including Core - similar to how it does this with RT. The thing is on that point I've read about this, but no-one on the internet seems to know how to describe this functionality with more detail than just a mention of the existence of this.
Yes, I know Windows 8.1 is a brand new OS - so new that it won't be available to the normal public for another month and a half. And yes, I know, this RTM is still incomplete and when it will be complete within this next month and half maybe some of these new features (like the default limited Bitlocker as well as the Wifi hotspot functionality (which I figured out how to setup with Powershell, but there's no easy and normal way to go about doing this (how are normal people going to set it up? Normal people are afraid of Powershell/Command Prompt! Microsoft knows this - so I assume they'll address these concerns, and if they don't - there employees and executives must be smoking crack cocaine))).
But, what I'm getting at is this - is it safe for me to set up Bitlocker on the Enterprise edition/drive and let the Core edition/drive be as it is now? Is there a specific way I should go about doing this? If my concern on this is warranted - and it's a dangerous thing to try to do - which could have negative and unwanted consequences - than maybe I should just remove Enterprise, well if I should, then suggest that too. I like Bitlocker encryption for my more sensitive data - but I also like this Windows To Go feature as well. I would remove Enterprise if it's probably the best option. I am concerned of this too because I remember reading years ago that in reality having a dual boot setup of 2 editions of the same version of Windows (or just 2 editions of different versions) was/is actually something that isn't a good idea to have setup because it messes with the 2 versions of Windows somehow and drive C:, but I assume that as time has passed and technology has advanced maybe those issues that were authentic issues in the past might've been addressed with the new technology - but am unsure of this.
So, basically, the real question is - is dual booting these 2 editions of Windows safe in the new world of today with these new technologies - and if it is - is having the full Bitlocker functionality with Enterprise setup and having the Core OS setup as the main OS as well - safe?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus UX31A with WIndows 8 Enterprise VL. Every time I wake the system from sleep, I hear the system chime as if a device is attached, unattached, and re-attached. I don't know what as it happens at the login screen and I'm not fast enough to see if anything appears in the taskbar.
After logging in, I get this window (see below; I had to remove a couple things I don't know if I can show). If I follow its directions, I restart and go about life until I put the system to sleep again in which the process repeats. As I write this I'm finishing a bunch of updates so perhaps that has something to do with it (I have a lot of Office and SP1 for SQL Server that I've been putting off along with a healthy swath of optional OS updates).
It has been months and still my music player lacks all the cool features. Is there a way to convert my Music player or even my N edition to a normal edition for the fancy Music player.
I don't get artist pictures in the background whilst in the player and nor does the tile show the artist picture.
I already use the W8 Enterprise Edition. There is any way to use the WMC on it?

Simply using programs and features was not so simple, and I had to do it manually, which I probably ended up doing some steps wrong. Now, when I constantly click on certain things-- like control panel or personalization-- I receive an installer for Microsoft Enterprise 2007. Obviously, I do not want this; frankly, I don't even know what it is; I assume some part of Office. If I attempt to complete the install, I get an error of having insufficient files .If I click cancel, it does cancel, however; I get a windows explorer error.
View 3 Replies View Relatedlong time ago I downloaded Windows 8 Enterprise x64 from MSDN and activated via microsoft, and now I got RTM and GA from other sources (what I mean it's that I did not download directly from MSDN). Now that I have some time I make some tests.
The activated machine has never get internet connection, results:
Enterprise 8 and RTM iso:
-I use the Setup.exe with graphical options.
- That iso don't allow me inplace update, only install with keep data, keep data and aps and keep nothing. Using keep data and apps, I got 8.1 deactivated.
Enterprise and GA iso:
-I use elevated cmd ---> setup.exe /auto:upgrade (seem this option is the same as install and keep data & apps)
-Using graphical interface of setup.exe is the same as before, no inplace update. Using keep data and apps, I got 8.1 deactivated.
-My account password did not work, as it install english keyboard layout and set it to default (mine is Spanish)
-A new pop-up appear after install in the upper right corner telling me how to use the charm bar (something that did not appear on RTM)
Is this normal? Or should I think I download a bullshit with same SHA1 as MSDN? Why I can't make inplace update with an activated Enterprise machine and GA iso? and moreover, Why are this iso's so different?
Then how to make inplace update to Enterprise edition without internet connection?
I have legal retail keys for W8 Pro and W8 WMC, however now I use W8 Enterprise (KMS, because Win2Go).
I have downloaded two v8-1 Upgrade Assistants (1st asks for key, 2nd starts compatibility test). When I compare those two EXEs binaries in TCommander 1st MS calls "LATE" version 2nd MS calls "MAIN" version.
Of course on Enterprise there is no Windows Store Upgrade option.

However the system drive is Truecrypted, so my question is:
When will I start upgrade via one of those assistants (BTW: which one?) inside W8 Enterprise, will update keep loaded TrueCrypt driver? (So in other words, will I survive system restart?)

I am working on computer for a coworker. He recently migrated a questionable Windows 7 installation to an SSD and started getting BSOD's pretty frequently. He had been wanting to try Windows 8.1 for a while.
First I attempted to install from a thumb drive and received NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM errors during installation. I tried again with a DVD and received the error once, but was then able to install. All the while I was doing a custom installation and deleting the old volume and creating a new one for the installation.
After the first or second boot to desktop, it BSOD'ed again, but I didn't catch the error code. The last time it happened I recorded an error code of KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. This was after installing Nvidia Drivers from the Nvidia website.
I'm suspecting this is some sort of problem with the SSD itself, as it has persisted through the fresh OS installation. I have attached the SF diagnostic tool file.
