Jan 18, 2014Just got an HP with windows 8. It forces me to go to a login page enter a password then goes to a start page. This is used in a private home with a couple of users and no access for anyone else. Is there a way to start the computer and have it go directly to the desktop screen?

Sep 15, 2014My problem is simply this, when i boot my pc into windows the boot takes maybe 3 seconds to desktop, but the icons on the desktop do not appear for another 10 seconds. The same can be said for the icons in the start menu. The biggest problem is that even if i run the icon such as firefox, before the icon has fully loaded, the program will not run. No programs will run until 13 seconds after boot once the icons have loaded.

Jul 14, 2014So I've been experiencing this pretty much from the first day after installing Windows 8.1.
It goes as follows:
1. I power on the PC (or restart), windows boots up, I put in the password and it is fairly quick to enter destkop mode.
2. Now this is when my issue occurs, the startup programs may take up to 2 minutes to start load.
This is not because my computer is slow or anything like that, it almost seems like there is a set delay and only then my programs are allowed to start loading. Once they start loading, it only takes couple of seconds. The problem is, they won't start - only after I hang in destkop for about a minute or two.
Entering Desktop From Initial Startup - All Icons Missing
Aug 23, 2013So upon entering desktop from initial startup, all my icons are missing. The loading symbol shows if i move my cursor over the taskbar at the bottom. If I CTRl-ALT-DEL and signout i takes a minute but than i can sign in and it works fine. Im not getting any BSOD and this occurs about 1/3rd of the time. Also resetting does not solve the issue. I couldn't find anything about blank/empty desktop screens via google.

I have a valid win 8 pro key and i want to make a clean install. Still, i wonder is there a reason to wait till win 8.1 will be released to download and install it at once and not to install win 8 and then 8.1 (as it will reset settings and apps i guess).
So the question is - will it be possible to download win 8.1 ISO from microsoft directly as a file (as one can download win 8.1 preview right now) and not use Upgrade Assistant that will download multiple files for me that i'll be wrapping to make an ISO?

May 5, 2014Recently i have purchased Lenovo laptop. I got Windows 8 Pro and have upgraded it to Windows 8.1 using Windows store. in future if i want to reinstall my machine, i have to reinstall windows 8 and then again upgrade it to windows 8.1 via store.

Instructions: Install .reg, then copy a registry key to your clipboard. Right click anywhere and "Open Registry".
Can be in either long or short name format. Translates HKCR, HKCU, and HKLM to their full names on the fly. Feel free to change the MUIVerb to anything you prefer. Is working on W7/W8/W2012.

Setup Installation :: Install From ISO Directly
Jul 1, 2013I was able to start the install of 8.1 Preview directly from the downloaded .iso file. Just double clicked on it to open in Windows Explorer then double clicked on setup.exe and off it went. This only works from a booted Windows 8 system (not sure about Windows 7).

Jan 10, 2014I am using a dell latitude e6430 laptop and just recently i encountered this problem- The airplane mode of my computer refuses to be turned off.
I tried going to the pc settings > networks but the selection is grayed out and stays at [on]. This results in my computer not being able to connect to the internet.
I have also tried doing a system restore to the date when it was working perfectly fine, but the airplane mode is still grayed out.
The only way i could access my internet on this computer is to tether my mobile phone and connect it to the wifi via USB tethering.
Is there any way to force off the airplane mode(In command prompt etc) or Remove the option?

However, when I receive an email advising me of activity from one of my Facebook friends, I can select SEE COMMENT and go directly and quickly to the Facebook page.

Feb 9, 2014I'm a Windows 8. I'm trying to RDP from my new Windows 8 laptop to an XP desktop, both of which are on my home network. When I try, I get the below error...
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
As best as I can tell, none of the conditions above is true. Here is what I have looked at so far...
- On the XP machine, in System settings / Remote, "Allow users to connect to this system" is Checked. I have successfully RDP'd to this machine in the past, but this is the first time I've tried from the Windows 8 machine.
- From the Windows 8 machine, I can ping the XP machine, and I can access a shared drive on the XP machine. In fact, I've been moving files between the XP machine and the Windows 8 machine, in both directions, all day.
- Just to eliminate another potential issue, I have set the username and password on the Windows 8 machine to match that on the XP machine.
Incidentally, XP machine is running XP Pro, 2002, SP3.

Its been there from my previous HDD itself, Now I have replaced with SSD & still NA has not gone,
It was enabled, so I disabled it - no change in anything I can see in performance.
N.B: I had looked up in Stat up programs now because while booting up , takes me to Login password screen quickly, but from there to reach Windows Start screen/Desktop it takes about 30-40seconds (after keying in PW it takes about 10-20seconds to show up Spinning circle of Welcome screen)
Though after SSD upgrade its comparatively better , but this delay is there since I did August updates - Had uninstalled them, still delay there. (I don't know when exactly 'NA' appeared in startup )
So for now , to avoid putting in Login password & waiting for system to respond , I disabled password login - now it is Auto-login.
Removing (NA) From Startup?
Feb 7, 2014I've just finished reinstalling Windows 8 on my computer, and I've noticed this "Na" thing has popped up as a startup item. There's no information on it, and all I can do is disable it. I'd really like to know if there is a way to remove it or what it is. It was not present after Windows 8 finished installing, and only appeared after finishing the long update cycle.
