Wild Tangent Not Removing From All Apps
Apr 25, 2013
Just got a new HP that came preloaded with HP Games and Wild Tangent. I've uninstalled through them the control panel, navigated to and deleted the program files, and even used the "take ownership" hack to delete them from the hidden 'windowsapps' folder. Even deleted registry entries. A search reveals nothing. But they are still there in the "all apps" list. The labels "all kids games, all enthusiast games, etc." are there, along with probably 10 or so games. I want these GONE.
When I right click and select "open in location" or the like it takes me to a folder with a chess piece, spade, and puzzle piece as an icon (no clue what this is). It lists them all there, but I can't open or right click or do anything in that folder. I'm sure if I get those deleted my problem will be resolved, but no clue how to do that.

After using Win 8 for about a month ,there's one thing that really annoy me. When i install a program from the desktop screen and then go to the metro/modern screen, i end up with all kind of icons. For example i have the program icon then there are the ones for read me, release notes ,website and others. For one program i had eight icons. I know that we can have the same things on the desktop screen but at least there, they are easy to delete.
I find that to remove those entries on the apps screen i have to go to the program folder and delete them and then go to the apps screen to delete them. If we end-up with lots of icons on the apps screen we better get ready for scrolling the screen a lot to find the program we want. Also, when we click the program icon it bring us to the desktop screen. So, i think that for the apps screen there should be only the program icon there and nothing else.

In the midst of trying to remove bloatware I have been removing bloatware and its shortcuts from the start menu and respective folders. However, I am running into a snag. There was a wildtangent games folder installed with a bunch of games. I remove everything associated with it, but there are still links in the start menu. I checked the start menu folders and I cannot find the links and whenever I click open file location it brings up the came browser and it shows a bunch of blank links. Pics are attached.

I've just finished reinstalling Windows 8 on my computer, and I've noticed this "Na" thing has popped up as a startup item. There's no information on it, and all I can do is disable it. I'd really like to know if there is a way to remove it or what it is. It was not present after Windows 8 finished installing, and only appeared after finishing the long update cycle.

I recently installed windows 8 using the "windlows 8 upgrade assistant", install went fine. got into windows 8, but it never replaced my MBR, which currently holds an installation of a linux bootloader known as "grub".
All guides point to having an installation dvd. to boot repair, then repair the mbr with a command in command line
I need another solution, since ive installed using the upgrade assistant, i dont have a dvd.

Have a new Lenovo Laptop and have cleaned up most of the bloat but one item keeps popping up. A video of the highlights of the laptop keeps playing after each period of 30 or 40 secs of inactivity. I move the cursor and the video disappears till the next period of inactivity. I've looked everywhere I could think of, libraries, task manager, both drives etc etc... It is well hidden or disguised.

I have two USB 3.0 ports on the front of my Dell XPS 8500 Dell desktop. Once again I have caused the USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller to stop working because I did not disconnect the external hard drive before shutting down, it seems. It reminds me of leaving in a floppy drive but at least the computer would not boot in that circumstance. Now, there is no warning whatsoever. Dell technical support's answer is to refresh or reset the machine.
Any way that would be less time-consuming than having to reinstall all of my applications.

I have a Win 8x64 system, Build 9200. There are two accounts: Administrator (me) and Joe. Joe is a standard user. I want to remove Joe's password, but that option does not exist in Control Panel. The policy to require the entry of a logon password is disabled. Various other methods, like net user from Safe Mode all fail.

My friend is a coder and he said he has to have the Test Mode on to test some stuff but that he's annoyed by the watermark ...
All good so far, we ran the utility caled My WCP Watermark Editor and removed it successfully. But, later on he changed his display language from English to native and the watermark was back (in the native language). We tried using the My WCP Watermark Editor again but it gave an error every time, no matter what we tried.
It was basically like that; install the REG change to be able to take ownership of files (Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8).
Then copy the shell32.dll.mui from the %WINDIR%System32En-US (or in the native language in my friend's case) and open it with the Resource Hacker (Resource Hacker).
Find a certain string and delete the entry that can be seen in the watermark. Then copy the basebrd.dll.mui from the %WINDIR%BrandingBasebrden-US folder and edit it with the Resource Hacker, find certain string and remove it.
Then overwrite the files with the changed ones (that's why the "take ownership" REG change was needed). After that we uninstalled the REG and rebooted.
After that I run mcbuilder.exe and after a couple of seconds it just closed the CMD screen.
The watermarks are gone - what I'd like to ask is:
Did I do right by running mcbuilder after the reboot or should I do it before?
Is this safe? Is it likely that it could cause any system unstability or whatsoever in the future? Or are we perfectly fine?

I've been having a problem lately with my drivers i think, whenever i remove or add a USB device my computer crashes with the BSOD and says "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE". I've tried some of the common fixes around the forums but they don't seems to work. I have my dump files here using the SF diagnostics program.

I have yet to try the driver verifier but it seems risky.

All of a sudden I have 4 Removable Drives on my windows 8 machine. I've tried removing these, but they return as soon as I restart.
I went into computer/disk management, right clicked each and uninstalled the driver, but no way. So I went to Device Manager and first disabled and then uninstalled each one of them, but still they exist immediately on restarting the system. They react to "eject" on right-click by stating
The disk drives as seen in Device Manager are:
Generic - Compact Flash USB Device
Generic - MS/MS-Pro USB Device
Generic - SD/MMC USB Device
Generic - SM/xD-Picture USB Device

When you right click on a photo and go to Properties -> Details , there is a link at the bottom called Remove Properties and Personal Information that will remove the camera EXIF data, GPS location and other metadata.
I took a photo on my iPad and emailed that picture to my Windows 8 laptop. The photo contains personal information including my GPS location that I want to remove. When I try to remove it I get an error message saying File Access Denied....You need permission to perform this action. I'm the only user on this laptop...I'm the Administrator. I have Full Control over this file in permissions. I even added the Take Ownership thing to the right click menu and tried that, but it still wouldn't allow me to remove the personal information from the photo.
It works on photos taken with my other digital cameras, just not with photos taken with my iPad.

I was not able to find the results I needed via Google keywords, I have all my personal files (music, videos, photos, documents) on a separate hard drive so the library folders are directed to the HDD. I was keeping my music specifically on another disc and have now moved the collection onto my files disc so you see the "D:" folder which is the missing music drive directory and I do not know how to delete it.
I need to add a Music folder into the library but do not know how...or change the name of the "D:" folder to "Music" and point it to my the files HDD.

My roommate did a thorough wipe of his c drive, then installed 7 then 8.1.1. for some reason he cannot boot in to the win 7 partition. after building up and getting 8.1.1 setup just the way he wants it he doesn't care about the 7 partition any more. i know i can go in delete the 7 partition, stretch 8.1.1 to fill the entire drive, but what i'm not sure of is if the boot info is on 7 or 8.1.1. i do know that once 8.1.1 is the only os i can go into msconfig and delete the win 7 entry. note since both partitions were created using partition wizard there is not 100mb reserved partition, so the boot information is either on 7 or 8.1.1. i also have a copy of Acronis True Image 2014 Premium.

Windows 8, 64-bit.
Used to run Win 7 on our main drive, and used a second one for storage (mainly games), however something happened, making us unable to boot. So we decided to upgrade to Windows 8, which we put on our secondary drive, and that's now the main one (boots from here, is Disk 0). When I turn on the PC, it asks me whether to run on Windows 7 or 8 (8 is the default). C: contains Windows 8, D: Contains Win 7.
MAIN PROBLEM: Since we're going to use the old main drive as storage (the one with Windows 7), I wanted to format it, but it won't let me because, I suppose, of the System files still on it (System, Active). Picture of Disk Management below. How do I format it?

I have an old Dell netbook that crashed (literally) on the ground, broke the screen. Hard drive is intact and accessible by a USB device, but that pesky password I made up to protect the files under my personal username, even though I know it, doesn't appear anywhere for me to access the document. I haven't found references made to it, but the hard drive has Windows XP operating system on it and I am running 8 on the computer I have now. Don't know if that has anything to do with not being able to get control panel to open on that one. I'm trying to continue writing a book I had started on that computer and foolishly didn't save elsewhere.

I have a Windows 8 / Vista dual boot - Windows 8 on SSD on C: and Vista on HDD on D: (data only on E: ) I have not used Vista since installing Windows 8 and now want to remove to free up some space and remove dual boot
Is there an option to keep my files on the drive but simply remove the Vista OS folder and remove the dual boot option? Or do I need to follow process here and "delete volume" and then copy all the files across again from backup?
If I do need to "delete volume" my first issue is that this option is greyed out and cannot be selected for D: drive? How can I sort this? also what do I do with 11GB recovery partition and 3.54GB OEM partition?
pic attached (hopefully)

I have a photo in SkyDrive that appears when I click on shared, to the left. It is the same as the photo I see when I sign in to my pc. Is it in SkyDrive because it is shared with my sign in?
I wish not to have anything in SkyDrive but when I click on the file and click to remove it, nothing happens.
It seems to say it is a file I shared but that no one can share. I wonder if I have to remove all my family photos in my pc for this file to be removed from SkyDrive.
Obviously my knowledge of this is quite limited although I have read many tutorials and other pieces of information. How to remove this file?

Okay now I have an issue with windows, namely secureboot and UEFI. HP Pavilion laptop that came preinstalled with windows 8.1 but didnt like it and wanted a dual boot.
So I gave him Ubuntu 13.10 as it has UEFI support and everything was fine until we updated to Ubuntu 14.04. Sadly it did not load windows via grub and windows would fail to boot.
However after repairing the windows boot manager I knew I had to reinstall linux which would normally be fine but now windows and windows alone now boots, no grub, no nothing.
I heard recently of this story: [URL] ....
However I checked everything and windows seems to be the cause of my woes. As does UEFI. Now we would like to keep windows on this machine however I am thinking of removing the /efi partition
Will windows 8 still work if I do this?

I was casually wondering how to remove the failed Windows Setup that shows up on the Boot screen along with the still functional Windows 7 Ultimate. Funny that the Setup didn't move past the first Reset screen, yet shows up above Windows 7 and, if ya don't arrow down within ONE second, it'll take ya to the infamous Black screen that won't even respond to Alt/Ctrl/Del. Don't wanna reinstall W7 from scratch. How to do this ??
