I tried to remove the "other user" screen, but while trying to do that I lost my admin credintals, so I tried to fix it by going on safe mode then I assigned a password to the administrator account... And now when I try to login it says "Your account has been disabled"

Today I thought I'd set a picture for my user account.
Nothing happens when I click or double click on the user account icon in the control panel.
I then went to check if our other pc was the same but that's fine.
I did notice that on mine instead of an icon of two people the icon is that of a folder.
I have tried accessing it through "Godmode" and it says it can't find it and also all the icons for user tasks are a blank piece of paper.
I have a Win 8x64 system, Build 9200. There are two accounts: Administrator (me) and Joe. Joe is a standard user. I want to remove Joe's password, but that option does not exist in Control Panel. The policy to require the entry of a logon password is disabled. Various other methods, like net user from Safe Mode all fail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using an unelevated admin user account since installing win 8.1 pro and I've been having problems constantly (UAC nagging me, access denied when trying to kill processes and so on) and I decided I want to use the elevated admin account as my main. I understand security risks and convenience is more important to me as I don't have any sensitive information on my laptop. I was wondering if I can merge the user account I used until now, which has all my app settings, with the elevated admin user account and use that one from now on.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn a new Windows 8 Installation, I created a local non/domain user. The first user is the "magical" user.
Then I added the domain user and made sure it was an Administrator, both on the Metro settings and on the Desktop. At least, if I go in now and look, it claims to be an Administrator.
Then I joined the company domain and that seemed to work OK. And then I made the account a Microsoft Account type user.
Now, whenever I install a program, it wants Admin Credentials. I put in the Domain Admin credentials and that works to install the program. But this happens over and over again, as I am moving from Windows7 to Windows 8.
I read that any secondary users cannot install programs without being changed into an Administrator. Well, I did that, but it still does the same thing.
Since I am part ways through my switch to Windows 8, I would rather not start over again, if there is some way to fix this, although I don't want to disable UAC either. It just seems like I should be recognized as an Admin and yet I'm not.
I've got a sony viao ultra book running Windows 8.1. My user account is set to open with a four digit pin. Unfortunately, although I know the PIN number, I have forgotten both the user and the admin password. So I can't load any new software as it asks me for the admin password every time. How to retrieve both passwords?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows 8 pro: I have a user account with admin rights. It used to work fine till one day, after rebooting, I had no tiles in the start view. I ran chkdsk and it seems to have fixed the problem but now when I run any application as "Run as administrator" I get: Windows cannot find '[The exe]'. Make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again.
If, however, I run the same app as normal and it works - thus the exe exists and there is no problem with the app itself. (Also check in the file system)
If I create a new user with admin rights I get the same issue.
(The other old user with admin rights are working fine.)
I am using windows 8 pro OS. I have only one local account on my machine. My account is already in Administrator groups. I have checked that.
My problem is that I am not able to create/change any user account from control panel. After traversing to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts.
There are all the different links named as below:
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage other account etc..
However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!
What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
I am an administrator with 3 limited users on a windows 8 machine. I have installed a game on my account that I want to let one of my users play. I have tried everything I have read about giving permissions, admin right etc, but it still asks for my password everytime he opens the game?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a stolen laptop tracking software and want to leave a standard/non-admin user account open for a potential thief. The software requires someone to log in and connect to the internet in order to start tracking. So if I only have my personal admin account password protected, I will be out of luck. The problem is that while logged in as a standard user I am able to access recovery options. From there I can use advance startup and proceed to reset my pc. If a thief logs in and resets my pc right away, I will have no way of tracking them. I have windows 8.1 standard and have not been able to find any way from restricting access to the recovery options.

I went to the event viewer and it also said that it couldn't find my profile. I am the only user and administrator. Is there a way to make a new user profile AND not loose my files and settings.

I had to delete the account and recreate it. I created the same User ID and same PW but I can't decrypt the files now...
I swore I've done that before and regained access to the files. Was that an old WinXP thing?
Even though I know the password is the cert used to encrypt/decrypt seeded by time or something else random as well?
I.E., are the files lost because I didn't back-up my cert/private key?
After upgrading Windows 8 to 8.1 - my standard user does no longer have administration rights.
in computer administration ->local user and Groups - the properties for the user shows that the user belongs the Group administrators.
However when I access the user account in the control panel the user shows up as "standard" and I cannot change that while logged in as standard user.
I have tried logging in as Administrator (using the built in administrator) - but here I am also unable to change the setting of the standard user from "standard" to "Administrator" - the "change account type" button is greyed out and cannot be clicked.
I have tried everything I can think of, read all I could find on the net - but to no avail.
I have removed my only admin account from the administors group and now i could not do anything in my pc..
It is just a local user account now and I also have no other account assigned as admin and my built in admin account is disabled.
You've Been Signed In With A Temporary Profile error In Windows 8 and boy was that a mistake, i went to where it said to go to Regedt32.exe, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList i found 2 accounts the temporary account and my account, the fourm said to reroute them to the right account so i made the temporary account go to my account and then i restarted the computer it did the exact same thing exept that when i went to user it had replaced my account with another temporary account. Any way to get all of the things i had on my user or is it gone. (BTW i have no restore checkpoint to where i can go back)
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I wanted to download a game from the windows store and had to create a Live/microsoft account. After doning so win 8 made that account the account that I use to sigh-in to windows. Didn't wanted that so I went to user managment and deleted the account from thare. The problem is that I also accidenly deleted my windows user account as well.
After I restarted, I got to the password screen and my windows user was gone, just "other user". I tryed to enter the windows user name and password but nothing. the screen also showed the microsoft acount name but here also the password dident work (probably because a deleted them both from the system...)
I have recently installed 8.1 on my desktop with 3 local user accounts (no Microsoft accounts) and no user passwords, and Guest account Off. I have bypassed the lock screen but whenever the computer is switched on or a user signs out, the OS loads the last user instead of going to the user select screen. Something that all Windows OSs have done from go to Win 7. I can back arrow which does display the user select screen.
Or more importantly, any way to make it act like all previous Windows systems. I would not be fussed if this was a single user computer.
I'm on HP laptop 2000-2d27dx Windows 8.1. My login screen shows only one user account. I have to click on arrow to switch to other existing user accounts. Is there a way to display all user accounts at login screen?

My question is: how to enforce Windows 8 to displayy ALL user accounts on the start screen, so that one can choose either of them at startup, independant on which was loged on previously.
I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. It was fine until I decided to change my account to a microsoft account.
After logging out and restarting, I could not see my user on the log on screen. It still showed up in Control Panel and PC Settings after logging in as another Admin.
To try to fix this I created a new user and was going to copy files into it but this new user didn't show up either.
Is this a Win 8.1 bug or is there something you have to do?
I can always revert to Windows 8 because I backed up my computer before updating but I would not prefer this.
Bad installation and now I cannot access Windows files
At the first time (I didnt the real cause above), I did format of my Windows 8.
After that, the second time I install HoldemManager2 and ( ) I lost my admin privileges again.
Any clue before I start format again ?
In safe mode I can't create users...
Also in safe mode I tried uninstall HM2... Windows 8 says: "contact admin"
I disable the postgress service, but even this is not working...

View 9 Replies View RelatedThere is a screen - I don't know its proper name - it's the screen where you go to choose a user account to log in. This is the same screen you see when you want to 'switch user.'
How do I change the background color of this screen?
On the screen where you choose which user account to log in to, I've noticed the user avatars/icons are sorted in "last used" order. This is extremely annoying because it forces you to actively look at the icons instead of just alway clicking on the same place on the screen. (Compare it to if the digits buttons on your cellphone switched places e.g putting the 0 first. Confusing.)
How can I prevent this, ie to have the avatars in a fixed position always?
I'm using Windows 8.1 Enterprise RTM
At the login screen I see my user ID and a Guest user. Can I hide the guest user at login screen - I only want to see my user.
I DON'T want to boot in bypassing the sign on screen. (Note this is NOT the same as booting direct to desktop !!!).
This is new in Windows 8.1 RTM - I never had this in previous editions of windows.
(Note I really don't want to DISABLE the account - I just don't want to see it at login).
I upgraded to from 8 to 8.1 last night and now my main account is not showing up on the front screen for me to be able to log into it. All the other accounts are there. I've looked in 'CUsers' and the folder is still in there, how I can reinstate it? I also had a look at the restore point so I could 'roll back' but there's not a point in there from before the update, I thought update always set a restore point automatically?

I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new Windows 8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)

I installed bitdefender total security at the same time and everything was fine for a few days until one morning I woke up my Laptop to find I couldnt open a software program. Further investigation has found that I can not alter anything on my machine.
I have only the one user account which has my name, email, Administrator and password protected showing.
I can use my laptop still but have no admin rights at all.
When i try to open command prompt (admin) it takes a few minutes to come back with an error saying cannot access specified path, file folder etc...
I cant even restore my system back to factory settings. How can I restore my factory settings from this point??
