My new PC should arrive today(7/3) or on sunday(7/6),i want to install my OS(Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64bit) on it.
I just don't want to spend time downloading & installing all the Windows Updates,so any way to copy my current OS at it's updated state so i could install on new PC?
Is there any way to install Windows 8 over an eval copy? I don't want to lose my programs.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently running WinXP, meets all requirement for Windows 8. However, when I try to copy the ISO file to USB using Win7 DVD download tool to create a bootable USB device, the USB I'm trying to copy it to will not show up in the list of "Devices to Copy In".
I have tried this several times with 2 different USB drives, both 8GB, one with more than 4GB free and the another is completely empty. They both work perfectly well, but when I reach the screen with the list of devices to copy the ISO file on to (Step 3 of 4, Win7 USB/DVD Download Tool) they don't show up on the list despite re-inserting them and refreshing a couple hundred times. The only removable device that does show up is the Floppy Disk.
I am using the DVD is not an option, since my DVD player crashed last week and I don't have the time to get it fixed right now, and I'd really like to get Windows 8 installed as soon as possible.
I want to copy windows 8.1 from one PC to another and then delete it from the first PC. How do I do this?

I read the tutorial on building a Windows EFI USB stick from the Windows ISO. I want to build an EFI/USB from an ISO of a bootable third party application, which is not designed to boot from UEFI. First, I went through the steps in Diskpart. Then, I copied the files from the third party ISO to the USB stick. Screenshot 34 shows the objects listed from the third party ISO. The second screenshot (35) shows what I have on my Win 8.1 ISO. I tried to just copy the efi folder and bootmgr files from the Win 8 ISO, but my Win 8 system (a VM) didn't like that at all. !

I upgraded my computer's OS from W7 to Windows 8 some months ago. Not long after, I upgraded to the preview of the Windows 8.1 Pro. My Windows-license is legit, bought and valid. However, when I returned from my christmas holiday, I noticed the message in picture #2. Fair enough, I thought and proceeded forth.
Clicking 'Get Windows' got me to the screen pictured at #3. Oddly enough, I am unable to click any of the buttons, including Download, Home, Your apps and Your account. I can access the links further down on the page (which aren't included in this screencap) but for some reason I can't press anything else.
When I've tried to access the Windows 8 Store before this problem arised, even before I installed Windows 8.1, I have literally never been able to access the Windows 8 Store (See picture #1).
How do I go from here? I would like to register the Windows 8.1 ...

I have purchased 2 identical Acer V5-serie (OEM Windows 8.1) . I have setup the first computer (removed McAfee, done setup changes in Windows 8.1, installed freeware programs, etc). Windows 8.1 (OEM) was activated automatically when connecting to internet.
1) Can I "clone" the first computer, create a "Rescue Media" , create a recovery backup, .... or something similar in order to transfer the setup and programs from computer A to computer B ?
On the second PC I'm going to replace the HDD with a SSD
2) Do I need to avtivate Windows 8.1 om computer B first ?
3) I have installed Office 2010 professional plus , it's not activated yet (do I need to ? )
What happens if I choose not to activate it ?
I partitioned my hard drive and installed a second copy of my Windows 8.1
I like to experiment with registry settings, tweaks, etc so I use the second installation as a guiney pig, leaving my primary copy untouched.
My question is how to I get the second copy listed on the graphical Boot Options Menu? Right now, I have to press [ESC] on reboot to select it in BIOS settings.

It's a volume licensed copy of Windows and I have no access to these updates. From what I've read, I need an MSN (what ever it's called) subscription to have access to these updates. I've seen articles around the web with ways to update, such as this one William's Blog: How to upgrade Windows 8 volume license to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store but I do not want to do anything illegal or mess up my computer.
For a project I have to install Windows 8.1 64 bit on several machines including updates.
As you can imagine updating each machine individually can be extremely time consuming. I was wondering if there's a way to manually download all the latest windows update files and put them in the Windows 8.1 ISO, so that once Windows is installed on the machine it will be up to date. if I haven't explained myself correctly
I've downloaded a legal iso from MAPS, i ve slisptremed all latest updates into it with Windows download integrator (it uses dism afaik) , then the problems comes in - i cannot use USB as my install.wim is 4,8 GB. I ve burned a Dual layer DVD with Windows 8 stock recorder and the PC doesnt see the DVD drive as bootable. When using stock it boots uefi from pendrive without any problems. How to make this updated iso boot into UEFI mode ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt seems that Windows 8 will only install some updates after a restart. No surprises here. However, since the Windows 8 "user" shutdown is not a real shutdown, but a hibernation (hence it will not be followed by a restart, and will not install updates), Windows 8 forces us to an extra restart/reboot. Is there a a way to simulate the logical behaviour of all previous Windows editions? That is, when updates that require a restart are installed, if the user shuts down, the updates get installed and the pc shuts down...Currently, my only away around this, is to select restart, wait... then enter the BIOS and turn off the pc there... Not intuitive.

I got this on last friday i.e the 6th of june, ever since i am not able to do anything with my laptop. I don't have windows 8 dvd as well. How do I reboot it?
Model number : Asus 15634 Laptop Intel Core i3 .
I also tried pressing the power button for 15 secs , still no luck. Tried f8 f9 and windows + r and windows+ X keys no luck.
After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.
I just reinstalled 8 on a ssd and tried to install 8.1 from the store but it says i need to update windows first. I tried running windows update but i get an error saying "Windows could not search for new updates" error code 80240440. I tried everything I could find online and nothing seems to work. I tried restarting windows update, i tried turning off firewall, I tried reinstalling windows again and selecting "check for updates online" before installing from the cd, i tried running a check disk, and there is absolutely no program installed on the drive other than windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and I want to install Windows 8 from scratch, I put the installation files on a flash drive from a DVD of Win 8 I had, but when I go to install it, it says the "We couldn't find any drives". I have tried using DiskPart within the CMD as well, but it only finds my flash drive when I run list disk. Also, my drives are completely formatted, and I accidentally wiped the recovery partition. I tried with a USB of Win 8 Pro, and it was fine, showing all of my drives correctly, but that version is linked to another PC, so I can't install it. Also, I booted into a Linux Mint live CD and tried to install it, it sees my hard drive correctly, but the Windows install does not, I can't figure this out, never encountered it before. Is Linux my only option at this point?

I am not actually trying to install to a flash drive. I contacted Microsoft and after 5 hours they said that I should connect to the internet with a cable and not by wireless in order to solve the problem (this didn't work of course and I had told them that it was an install problem and not a download problem).
Until very recently i was running Windows 8 with a 240 GB Sandisk SSD as a primary and a 2 TB Western Digital Green HDD as a storage. I decided to set up a RAID 1 setup so i purchased a second 2 TB HDD and installed it.
My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.
Im trying to install Windows 8 (Not 8.1) but it gets stuck at the booting screen (Where setup shuold load files)
My system specs are on my profile.
I am trying to setup a new Windows 8 computer that is going to be a gift. I need to go through the setup procedure so I can install some software which is also part of the gift. How can I do this without having to use a Microsoft account, or at least with leaving the least amount of account remnants for the new user?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.
I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.
I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".
I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).
Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?
I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.
After I installed Windows 8 I started having the "0 KB Total, 0% Downloaded" issue while attempting to update, sometimes it does work, but most of the time it doesn't
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo some background. I had issues with being able to install ANYTHING from an MSI file. Then I wasn't able to install any updates from Windows Update. I then reinstalled Windows, and am now facing the same issue after a few days. I would rather not reinstall yet again.
I tried doing System Restore, but it just hangs. Windows Installer hangs on "preparing to install".
I just bought new Asus Vivotab Smart Windows 8 tablet, after the very first windows update it failed to install some of the updates, and then after the reboot I am now stuck with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes".
It never gets any further than this, it never reverts, I have left it running for an entire day and have restarted several times.
This is a tablet, so there is no keyboard so I cannot press any F keys to get into recovery mode, and no CD to boot from etc.
I have tried updating my Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit, upgraded from Windows 8 Pro) with the new "Update 1" (KB2919355) but it always fails with ERROR code 8007005 (or 80073712).
What I have tried do to fix:

There must be something that Microsoft needs to fix, there are xxxxxxxxxxxx amount of similar complains and reports out there...
I decided to install Win 8.1 RTM x64 yesterday but what I expected to be a breeze turned into a nightmare. Installation fails, I am even unable to get into Safe Mode.
I was running Win 7 Ultimate x64 before without any issues whatsoever.
