I noticed when i shut down my PC in windows 8 cp, my live account is still signed on with a status as idle. Due to this, i noticed a much quicker log in. Is there a way to completely sign off of my live account when i shut down my PC?
View 1 RepliesI have a long standing Live account, and my computer has been set as a trusted device. when I upgraded to Windows 8 I was thrilled to be able to purchase apps for my computer and have many photo apps and art apps. I upgraded to 8.1 and now I can not log in to the store at all. I go through the process and at the last stop I get a screen telling me that there is another account on this PC using that account. I know this, it is me, on my account! I need to purchase something and i can not. I am afraid to even try and run something because I do not want to get locked out of my already purchased apps.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 8 on my laptop which uses my Windows Live account to login. Problem is it has suddenly stopped letting me log in and I'm locked out. The message I get is "You can't sign into your PC at the moment. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem or try the last password you used on this PC". I hadn't changed anything which may have made it do this.
I have tried the following but nothing is working:
- Changed my password in my Live account
- Used a previous password
- Plugged my laptop into a network cable rather than using just Wifi
- Rolled my laptop to a previous time
I can't refresh as it needs the password but I can access the command prompt. I'm not knowledgeable on command prompts so not sure what I could do here which might resolve it. I also don't want to lose any files.
Why when I create a homegroup and try to access my shared folders on my windows 7 laptop from my windows 8 pc it says I dont have permissions it says I cant access the shared folders, yet if I stop using my microsoft live account and sign in with a local account on the computer I can access everything fine...Really annoys me because I cant use skydrive with the regular account....I have all the options set to share on my account settings too...

My question is how do I get all the ones backed up by Verizon but included in my Live account so show up on my desk top(Hotmail Type)? How can I convert the contact type from Verizon to Live?

Using a MS Live account just for the purpose of installing Store apps
The first time you go to install a store app you are prompted for your Live account credentials. Once entered, the only choice is SAVE or CANCEL. Once SAVE is chosen Windows remembers the password and the user is not prompted next time they go to install a store app. I want the user to be prompted every time. It seems earlier version of WIN8 allowed this. Can it still be done? I looked for a registry hack to prevent the Live password from being memorized but could find none.
I have a problem with Windows 8. This morning when I went to check my ASUS Zenbook laptop, the PC wouldn't access the network, even tho I could see our home network was working. I did a hard reboot and returned several minutes later to find I had been logged in under a temp password and all the desktop files I had were in the trashcan. Here's the error message that popped up in the lower right of the task bar:
"You've been signed in with a temp profile. You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out. To fix this, sign out and try signing in later. Please see the event log for details or contact your system admin."
When I try logging out and then back in, I get the same problem. One other note: During the login procedure, this text appears in the bottom right of the screen:
"Windows Update. Your PC will restart in 2 days to finish installing important updates."
Currently I am in process of imaging and distributing new Dell XPS 12 with win 8. I setup one machine exactly how I want it, with all the programs,pdfs, and weblinks, and placed all of the tiles where I want them. I then created a new profile, replaced the tile placement file with the one that has all of the tiles I already created. I rebooted the machine, signed back on with the new profile and all of the weblinks and pdfs are missing. Any way I can get these to keep? I really do not want to have to recreate all of the tiles for 40 new machines.

I have already installed Skype desktop to get around the Live ID crap for the metro version, and I will install Thunderbird if needed, but if I can find a way around it I will use the built in mail client.
It doesn't even seem to have a name. I tried disabling the "status bar", but that wasn't it (that was another bar that was just over this one).

View 2 Replies View RelatedFollowing this Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep thread I went to look for the task mentioned and I see no tasks have run. It has been this way since day one of this computer and doesn't matter what time period I select (last hour, 24h, 7 days, 30 days).
Why would it show no tasks, when clearly I have some set to run and they do run and complete? Plus there are other tasks that I didn't set that run as well.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a valid activated 8.1 Pro + W M C system and need to do several re-installs on the same partition and hardware to test some unattended scripts for customization, etc.
When I re install, there is no network connectivity until I install the proper drivers. I am currently replacing the install data. that and token data with the activated versions from my original install, after which I run slmgr. -i p k with the original key without any errors, but the system shows not activated. I don't remember this being the case with Win 8 doing the same thing.
Apparently, just restoring the activated tokens and installing the same product key isn't enough to get back the previous activation status when offline. I can reactivate going online and that stays activated even after going back offline, but not after a re-install. I always have to reactivate online. How to avoid this?
In Windows 7 the mouse properties sheet had a "wireless" status tab. The PC also warned when the signal was low.
Neither of these items is available in Windows 8, using the Keyboard Center latest software. Is something missing?
In Windows Event Viewer I'm getting this error: Windows can not easily be started with the error status 0xC00000D4. The problem is that fast startup that is included in windows 8 doesn't work (that's why I get this error) but I can't seem to solve it. My motherboard is Asus P8Z77-V LX

I've tried googling portions of the error and all I saw was to run sfc /scannow, which I did with these results

What can I do now to fix what is broken and stop the popups? Is this a f/p that will self correct as I get updates from Microsoft? 8.1 seemed to fix 2 problems I had: laptop would shut off periodically and battery never said 100% Fully Charged.
I can use windows task manager to enable or disable the startup items. But when I uninstall and reinstall the program, the related startup item re-appears with the same status of enable or disable as that before uninstalling. So, I wonder where does the system store the status information. I try to search the regedit but no results.

I booted in recovery mode but I can't make a system recovery drive on a USB because it says the boot files are missing. And I don't have a recovery disk because SAMSUNG ATIV 6 doesn't have a disc drive. I've been searching the web for a recovery disc download to no avail.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn windows 8 my Core i5 3750K CPU does not reduce its clock-speed when idle. As I run an OC of 4,3Ghz, it gets pretty hot in idle, allthough it do reduce vCore a little.
Dualbooting with Windows 7, and there the cpu clocks down just fine works, so not a BIOS problem.
Seems to have some small HW issues with Windows 8. CPU at full speed and really slow USB3 performance.
I walk away from my computer for a bit and come back to a BSOD. This happens quite regular. I have run my system both stock and highly overclocked. When it started BSODing on me I put it back to stock to see if that worked but it has not worked.

It happens randomly sometimes on idle or sometimes on games like grid 2. Computer is about 2 months old.
I upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 from the store yesterday. Everything seems to be working fine - no lags or freezes, but I noticed that my PC doesn't drop below 30-35% in idle, also it doesn't downclock (balanced power settings) - it used to drop to 0.8ghz in idle and be like 1-4% in idle before the update, and now it's permanent 3.2ghz and over 30% in idle. I noticed that Service Host: Local Services and Service Host: System Services in the task manager are draining over 10% CPU each, something that didn't happen before.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy taskbar with toolbars: address, desktop, links etc becomes just empty blue space after PC was idle. nothing on it and I have to restart to be able to get it back again. Also. in that "state" I can choose application from Start screen but it does not open. Just show on that empty taskbar. When I click it, little picture of it pop up above taskbar but it can only be closed. Nothing shows as open on Alt+F4 or in upper left corner, even when I open or better say click on all aps on Start screen. All I pinned on taskbar disappears also.
