I currently have a 15" PC with a 3200x1800 resolution. Using Windows 8.1. I have the scaling to highest.
My 2nd external monitor is 1920 x 1200.
I am trying to extend my desktop to the 2nd monitor but is there a way to use different scaling for both the PC and monitor?
I have unchecked "use scaling for all my displays" but no matter what, I still can't change the scaling on the external display. It uses the scaling settings of my PC (scaling set to highest because of 3200x1800 resolution) and because of that, the monitor scaling shows everything large.

Just got a new Toshiba laptop and plugged it into my Emerson 32" tv/monitor and the top, sides and bottom expand beyond the scope of the screen. I have Windows 8 and have adjusted the screen resolution from the highest to the lowest but it does not make a difference.

I have a game (ATCSimulator 2) that is not written for widescreen. The game tells me that in order to work in the mode I want the display must be set to a standard 4:3 setting. It gives the options of 1280x800, 1440x900 or 1680x1050. I tried to do this, but apparently my video card does not support any standard resolutions. I thought it might just show the screen stretched, but the game will not even go into the mode I want to use.
How I can change the resolution to display properly or possibly a workaround for this?
My video adapter is Intel HD Graphics 4000
Intel driver version 10.18.10.3277
15.6" display
Max Resolution 1366x768
Windows 8.1

I'm trying to use an external Samsung TV/monitor (model LN-T2642H) through HDMI. The native resolution of the monitor/TV is 1360X768, which is also the native resolution of ASUS T100.
If I try to use the monitor/TV as the only display, the device selected is Generic PnP Monitor and the native resolution of 1360X768 is not available for selection. Intel HD Graphics Control Panel only shows 1280X720 (selected) and 1920X1080 (too high for my monitor).
Is there a way to set up the 1360X768 resolution with the existing driver (up to date)? Is there another driver that I can download and that will allow this resolution? Can I use a different version of the Generic PnP Monitor that allows 1360X768 resolution?
With the only resolution available i.e., 1280X720 the quality is bad.

OK, what I want to do is the same that a lot of users that have their smartphones (Android OS), is change the original DPI o screen resolution (force a different scale/resolution) For example: what I'm trying to say of Android OS is when you want more space avaible on your desktop or the objects/texts/sidebar/icons/etc... looks like smaller than before, you just need to go to this directory (/system) and edit the file (build.prop) and finally locate the line called (ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx) and change the original density number of your screen's device by other smaller; and when you'll restart the device you'll have the same os similar size's desktop of one Note 3 in your SGS3 mini.
So, in resume. I would like to have a 1920x1080 (for example, or smaller I don't know what resolution is correct for my case), from my actual resolution of my laptop that it's 1280x800 pixels.
And for more details:
- Windows 8.1 Pro (x86)
- Resolution 1280x800 (15,4") and 16:10
- Graphic Adapter Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950 (Intel GMA 945 GM)
- Only the original monitor (laptop), not an external monitor

I just changed my laptop's OS to Windows 8 but somehow, I can't change my screen resolution the way it was before.
Here's a screenshot: [URL] .....
And when i go to desktop, right-click then screen resolution, there's only 1 option available.
Here's how it looks like: [URL] .....
And as you can see, the "Resolution" option won't show any other options aside from 1024x768.

I've got a Windows 8 laptop hooked up to a second monitor. I prefer to only use the second monitor, so I have the display settings set to second monitor only. Problem is that the monitor power settings I use don't seem to apply to my second monitor. It's always on when the laptop is on. I would like it to sleep when not used for 10 minutes. How do I accomplish that?

Specs: Gpu: GTS 450 CPU: Athlon 975 3.6 BE Hdd: WD1002FAEX 1tb Ram: corsair vengeance 4x2 600w psu Windows 8.1 64b
today my PC was working totally fine until I decided to finally put risers on my motherboard (also known as standoffs).
I had to remove everything and put it back together. Everything is seated firmly as can be now though.
When I turn on my PC all of the fans spin and all seems well. No beeps, etc. however, I believe the hard drive is making some sort of click noise. I extensively pinpointed it to there.
I can't tell if the OS is booting up since I don't know how to produce a noise without seeing anything.
I took out the CMOS battery but no fix. I reseated all components, firmly pushed in cables.
I will try booting without HDD in about 10 minutes. I'm trying some things.
I tried 2 different monitors and dvi slots.
EDIT: Put everything back together and it works now. I .. don't know what went wrong. But it works now. A stressful day that was.

Recently, my laptop has run into a multitude of problems, but most of them have been solved by Dell. Today, I checked my device manager and I saw the yield symbol and an error on my monitor (called "Generic PnP Monitor), but nothing seems to be wrong with it as far as I know. I am thinking the driver may be out of date, but I am not sure. I have attached a few screenshots below to look at.

I have an ASUS LED monitor and an MSI motherboard. When the computer goes into hibernate the blue LED indicator on the face of the monitor blinks. When it starts blinking there is a slight buzzing noise that is emitted. Since my computer is in my bedroom I was hoping to be able to change this so at least it doesn't make a noise when I am trying to sleep.

Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.
I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.
I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.
I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.
how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.
Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?

I have a Lenovo G510 i7(which does not seem fantastically faster than my celeron Samsung R530!). I have replaced the DVD with a SSD. I have cloned the HDD to the SSD, made changes in the BIOS(changed to ACHI,switched to Legacy, put the SSD first in boot) but get the message "no bootable device insert disc and press any key". If I use UEFI I do not see the SSD. I have googled this until my finders are sore to no avail. How to boot from the SSD and once I can do this can I reformat the HDD? The SSD is called A:, the HDD C:. I cannot change the drive letters.

My PC is Windows 8.1 x64.
I have a 2TB external (USB) drive and have created four partitions of equal size using Windows Disk Management, the first three are three are Primary (Healthy) but the fourth is "Logical"
How do I change it to a Std Partition, Basis or Primary.
Or does it matter, the Partition will be used for backup of files, so is it okay to use it as Logical?

Some time ago I replaced an IDE hard drive with Windows 8 installed for an SSD drive onto which I installed Windows 7. I would like to know if I can temporarily swap back to the IDE drive (Windows 8) while I obtain the Windows Product Key (embedded in BIOS apparently) and then replace the SSD drive (Windows 7), or boot from an external docking station and if so how do I do that?I am totally confused about the BIOS. Does a different OS change the BIOS details?

i have recently bought an SSD. I have heard from a youtube video that changing the Sata controller from IDE to AHCI can give me better performance but i tried to enable this and it doesn't recognize the drive. The PC will not boot in AHCI mode which meant i have to switch to IDE again. I have tried booting from the Windows install DVD but it tells me that i cannot install Windows on this drive. Am i missing something?

How do I change the Com port for my modem in Windows 8? When I google around the instructions say to reinstall the modem, but I just installed it and it has the wrong port. It seems to default to Com 1 and my modem is on Com 4. So, how do I change the modem com port from Com 1 to Com 4? If Microsoft provided no method of changing it (incredible if true) then where is it stored -- registry, ini file, etc.?

In previous versions of windows, I was able to customize the printer settings so that it always printed in grayscale, unless specifically changed at the time of the print job. I see how to access the control and can navigate to Customize Your Printer under Printer Management, but the option to change the default printer settings to grayscale or black and white is nowhere to be found?

So I upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 laptop. I was previously running Windows 8, 64 bit and primarily just using the Desktop mode. I immediately noticed that the 1920x1080 resolution on Windows 8.1 made everything 10-15% smaller.
Ultimately I decided to refresh back to Windows 8, but the resolution issues remained. I've tried scaling to 125% but that's too large.

i know 1080 can't physically fit in a 720 resolution. The reason I ask is because my Vizio Blu-ray/Internet player automatically detects the display as 1920x1080 (the TV allows this, showing the resolution box in the corner and the picture being nice and crisp. It looks pixelated and letters are jagged in 720p).
My computer, however, only detects the TV in it's native resolution of 1360 x 768 (or was it 1366?). If my blu-ray player can pull it off, what is limiting my computer from doing the same? (The option to go to 1080 isn't available and a custom resolution in the Nvidia CP looks downright awful)

Installed windows 8 today, took some time to get used to it but finally managed to all my programs working again. When you set taskbar icons to never combine, they become really low-res and ugly, and the system tray icons are always like this.
I always used Never combine option for the taskbar because I really prefer it that way. I am running a 1920x1080 resolution.
