Feb 20, 2013I just wanted to know if it was possible to use Intel Mobile 4 Series Express Chipset drivers with Windows 8. I've read that you could use the drivers for Windows 7 in Windows 8, but I haven't really proven that to be true.

but I really don't get why I'm getting that message - it's giving me this message like I'm trying to run the software on a computer from the '90s. It really doesn't make sense to me since just about all other software can run on newer operating systems.
All I want to know is if it's possible to install these drivers on my computer, and if not, if there's a patch or a substitute.

Hardware Drivers :: Can 8.0 Chipset Drivers Be Used For Windows 8.1?
Mar 12, 2014I'm having a problem with system file corruption on two computers with ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Rev 2 motherboards and some resulting issues after upgrading from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. ASUS still doesn't have 8.1 chipset drivers available for their AMD motherboards but they have 8.1 for their Intel boards, which is interesting. I have been told by a third level MS Support person that the corruption is caused by a hardware issue and he refuses to troubleshoot the computer until the corruption is resolved. He said that in the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade, Microsoft made some significant changes so he thinks that 8.1 chipset drivers should be installed.
Every few days, when I run sfc /scannow, it finds corruption. If sfc can't fix it, then I run the dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth command and eventually it gets fixed. In the meantime, some strange things happen with Window's operation but I don't get BSODs and other major things but the computer can hang for a while.
I have contacted ASUS but I get conflicting information from them. I see that here: ASUS Windows 8.1 - Ready Motherboard : Get you Onboard, that many AMD boards have passed the WHQL test (only very recently--the Intel boards had already passed some time ago) but when you click on any link to an AMD board, there are no 8.1 drivers available, even where it says they have some. I have been told by ASUS's Customer Care Manager that AMD provides the chipset drivers. I have spoken to AMD Support and they say that they do NOT provide motherboard drivers--the motherboard manufacturer does. I then told the ASUS Customer Care Manager this--then he said:
"ASUS would have to work with AMD in the development of such drivers, and since our testing of Windows 8.1 with the current 8 drivers has worked without further issues there is no word of further development of a Windows 8.1 chipset driver set for that motherboard. It isn't deemed necessary as of now. This is also due to the fact that AMD is working with ASUS to develop other products with their FM2+ socket and APU processors such as the board in the link [URL] .....
As far as the appropriate chipset driver for the Crosshair V Formula-Z, it is already available but it the same driver that is used for 8, and the only driver that needs to be updated further after that should be the USB 3.0 driver. The webpage you described is just dated and isn't meant to be used for continued reference. Our product page just hasn't been updated to reflect the information I am providing."
I wonder how much in depth testing ASUS did with the AMD boards which supposedly work fine running Windows 8.1 on a motherboard using 8.0 chipset drivers?

Jan 26, 2014I have been getting these errors in Event Viewer intermittently, every 1-2 weeks since upgrading to Windows 8.1 . I have an HP m6-1158 (specifications linked).
I had to get rid of my last computer because of constant BSODs because I changed out the graphics drivers so often. That's why I'm reluctant to do it again. A friend advised me to do it only if there's a problem, otherwise leave them alone. If I do update them, he said, it's best to go through the computer manufacturer. Last time when my computer failed, I installed drivers from AMD, so I have been avoiding theirs and Intel's websites.
With this system, that I've had since May of last year, I haven't been able to update the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 with this Windows 8 driver or this Windows 8.1 driver. Each time I tried, I got an error that my computer does not meet the necessary specifications. Therefore I left it alone and the only driver installs recorded in Device Manager for it are from when I bought the system in May 2013 and the 8.1 update in October.
The Radeon driver is from 2012 and came with my computer. According to Device Manager, it reconfigured or reinstalled for 8.1 but the driver version has not changed. I have not had any major issues with gaming performance. I tested Far Cry 3, which runs great.
I recently installed the game Papers. After constant crashes on startup, I contacted support, who advised me to change the AMD switchable graphics options for the game to High Performance. After that, it runs fine. That leads me to think that there is an issue with the Intel driver.

May 14, 2014Today I tried to install the new BETA driver for my Intel HD 4600 Integrated Graphics unit, however, regardless of installation through through my driver with the extracted driver-ware, or through an .exe nothing seems to work.
I either get the "system does not reach minimum requirements.", or "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer"

I get a BSOD with message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys) shortly after launching any game. The driver is linked to Intel's Integrated Graphics which I have updated with 'Windows 8.1 Ready' drivers. My laptop has a Nvidia dedicated GPU which is what I set games to run with, so I'm not sure why Intel's drivers are failing since using a fresh 8.1 install I have been receiving low memory error messages whilst playing games despite having 16GB of RAM.

Feb 14, 2014I have a ASUS N56VM laptop, I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro a few months ago (free DreamSpark account) and I can't get USB 3.0 to work at the speeds at which it needs to work. An 3GB ISO which I copy from my HDD to an USB3.0 USB-stick gets a max speed of 25 mb per second. I have already tried everything I could think of, including the following:

EDIT1: A few months back, when the laptop was still running Windows 7, the read/write speeds were "normal", meaning that they were what you would expect from USB 3.0.

Nov 14, 2013So figured out my Windows 8 install was corrupt so I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
Formatted my drives and proceeded to install Windows 8 successfully. While installing all of my drivers every single one of them installed perfectly fine besides IntelRST.
It seems to time out every damn time. I tried to manually install it via device manager and it times out as well. I even reformatted and re installed Windows 8 still no go.
The crazy thing is when I try to manually install it via device manager it times out but the driver shows the correct date so I'm sort of at a loss right now.

Mar 14, 2013I was reading that your Intel motherboard drivers should be updated. I watched the video and it seemed so easy. It said you can run it even if your mobo is not Intel with no harm done. The target to do so is below.

I've tried 4 cables (not that it proves anything) They are all USB 2.0 to micro USB. I know where the USB 2 ports are on my m/b and I've tried all 4 (there is no USB hub involved). The m/b is an Asus Z87-Pro and all the latest patches have been applied.

Jul 4, 2014So I've been playing around with FreeNAS on another rig, you install the server on a USB drive and run the server form the flash drive. I've decided to go another rout and not use free nas so I went to format the 2 flash drives I was messing with and there are some partitions I can't remove with disk management, and space missing.

The drive in question appears in attached screen shots as Disk 6 but is missing from Explorer.

Dec 4, 2013Over the last couple days, I built a new PC and installed windows 8.1. Initially I had some issues installing windows, so I unplugged all my drives except the SSD and DVD. I installed windows to my SSD.
Everything works great!
Now I started adding my drives back in 1 at a time. When I plugged my 2nd SSD in, it showed up in BIOS, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. So I booted back into the install CD, it showed up in the disk manager there. Since this was also a blank SSD, I partitioned and formated the drive from the install CD, then exited the installer and booted back to my windows drive.
I have 2 SSD drives working great!
Now to add my 2TB HDD... Same issue, it shows up in BIOS and the install disc, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. This drive does not have a boot partition on it, however, it does have two existing data partitions. They were made from my previous windows 7 system and the option to delete these partitions is grayed out in the install disc menu. I also have some data that I would like to keep on it. I have a USB dock that I can use to read the contents of the disk just fine. Everything is there and in working order.
What is different about Windows 8.1 that is preventing my hard drives from showing up in windows proper? I am reading things about UEFI online, but nothing seems to fit my exact scenario. I will try and post some screen shots when I get back at it.

Jul 8, 2014The problem happened after I right click on desktop > Graphic option > first thing that i cant remember what is it .. Then the screen suddenly blank ! (The system is still running).. and i startup with safe mode..it has no problem..
I disabled intel hd grahics 3000 device on safe mode.. and it work's , my screen is not blank anymore.. but without the intel hd grahics i facing many problem like, cant adjust screen's brightness..
What i should do? maybe reset the setting of intel hd grahics ? But how..if i enable the intel hd grahics device..it becomes blank again..

After fresh install I now have the (2) HDD's shown and was was notified to install chipset driver, so I did and ended up installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
Now my (2) HDD's are mirrored {combined to one drive} but the problem is I get an error about recycle bin being corrupt, delete- yes or no?.... and nothing works trying both options and the message keeps coming up.

Oct 17, 2013After the most recent update from Windows Store for Windows 8.1 Pro, my Intel Wireless drivers got busted. I could only connect to the Internet via the Ethernet cable and no matter how hard I try re-installing/uninstalling the drivers for the wireless drivers, I still get the same outcome.
In Device Manger, I checked the listing for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.In the Properties menu, I get this message:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I went to install software from Intel's website for diagnosing the wireless driver/connection status, so I ran Intel PROSet/WIreless Tools, and after clicking Diagnose > Run Tests for Hardware Test, I get this message:
Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver. My wi-fi switch on the left side of my laptop is already turned on. I switched it off, uninstalled and deleted the driver and restarted the laptop to see if I could reinstall. Upon turning back the switch on after logging into my Windows account, I still get the same outcome: code 12.

Apr 30, 2013Recently I Recieved A Laptop in gift which I owned in the past which is A Dell XPS 15-L521X. It was running all good but suddenly Today morning when I pressed the power button and it boot through the Dell splash screen and after that It booted normal through the Windows 8 boot screen but after that It stucked at a Black Screen.
I passed on 20-min but it stucked there. No Cursor, nothing except The Black Screen. I ran Dell Pre-Boot System Assesment to check any Hardware failware but no everything is just fine. I remember That My Dell Driver Update Utility Notified me that it installed latest Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver on my last boot but I dont know whether its causing the error but The Intel Rapid Start Technology is very essential for SSD users so why will it cause errors?

I added 2 ordinary Google search engines, (one in the UK) to the Start screen. (Neither was a Google Chrome). When I try to use either one of them I get this message: "There is a problem with the website's security certificate". Now I have the same thing on my laptop & have had no such problem with them. This is Windows 8.
