Graphical Tile Glitch On Windows 8.1 (tiles Get Cropped)
Dec 10, 2013
I post this because I get a glitch where tiles get cropped whenever I resize or move one. I've left an image of the problem as an attachment. This only happens with tiles on the borders.
I am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.
Sometimes when I start up my pc and the Windows 8 loading screen comes up, (That purple screen that says loading and the dots going in circles) I know that there are going to be some stuttering problems whenever I watch a video (Youtube, MP4) or play a game. Restarting is a temporary fix that I do but it comes back afterwards. Is there a permanent solution to this?
I partitioned my hard drive and installed a second copy of my Windows 8.1
I like to experiment with registry settings, tweaks, etc so I use the second installation as a guiney pig, leaving my primary copy untouched.
My question is how to I get the second copy listed on the graphical Boot Options Menu? Right now, I have to press [ESC] on reboot to select it in BIOS settings.
I cannot find my desktop tile or the store app anymore. I have tried searching with the search charm too. I checked various users and they are not there either. Some desktop programs have gone missing too
How can we reset the size of the screen that is presented after clicking on a tile in windows 8? I have two monitors and have my desktop going across both monitors the way I like it. However when you click on a windows 8 tile, the screen it brings up fills both monitors. its annoying because whatever I am viewing is centered down the middle of two monitors and trying to read it is awful. I want to be able to set the window size that appears after clicking a tile to be half a screen (only one monitor). How to accomplish this? I know you can go to desktop mode and it will be sized however I like it, but I need to change the size of the windows after clicking the tile.
If I Right Click on the Photos app on the start menu the option "Turn live tile on/off" is missing. I used Windows 8 before upgrading, and I remember it had the option. I wanted to have a small slideshow of my photo gallery on the live tile.
Other apps (such as mail, weather, store etc) are not missing the option and are working fine. I know that the preview version didn't have this problem.
I'm using Windows 8.1, and I have accidentally deleted the SkyDrive App Tile and am trying to find a way to restore it.
What happened was that I deleted the SkyDrive shortcut in the start menu, only to realise that doing this also deleted the SkyDrive App Tile in Metro View.
Is there a way to restore the SkyDrive App Tile? I have tried searching for SkyDrive under Apps but it isn't there, presumably because it is integrated into Windows 8.1. I also found the SkyDrive menu that the SkyDrive App Tile is a shortcut to under PC Settings, but it doesn't look like it's possible to make a shortcut to it directly from Metro View.
I have upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. After doing so and making sure my accounts are all setup, I have found that I can not get the mail tile to act "live". I have verified it is set to live by right-clicking and seeing that link state "turn live tile off". I tried doing that and then turning it back on. I have tried rebooting. But the tile just isn't live. My other live tiles (news, finance, weather, store, etc) all seem to be live. It is only mail that I am having a problem with.
I installed Office 2013 two weeks ago. The setup automatically pinned Office apps on my start menu. But after couple of days, the icons from some of the office apps automatically got erased from the tiles and now it looks so ugly. I tried re-pinning apps on start menu but it didn't work. I also tried sfc /scannow but it was in vein. How to fix it and get the icons back on the tiles?
Windows 8.1 tile apps, no issues on desktop, give me Internet connection errors. Apps like euronews say that I am not connected to the Internet and I am. I also get "internal error" on other apps.
I'm trying to run the Dell Backup and Recovery application on a new windows 8 xps 8500. Unfortunately all the tile labels are only showing IDS tags eg: IDS_DS_022,IDS_DS_003 and when I click on a tile the subsequent window is also full of different IDS tags. I've tried reinstalling the app but no change.
Is there a way to nest or embed Metro tiles so they act like folders? For example, Microsoft Office deposits at least eight tiles on my Start Screen. I rarely use any but Word and Excel, so I would like simply a generic "MS Office" tile that, when clicked, gives me all of the Office tiles.
I know I can make a folder from a bunch of shortcuts and then pin that folder to the Start Screen, but I'm looking for something that stays within the realm of Metro Tiles.
I have ten folders in my Pictures library all full of pictures, and they get cycled on the Live tile for the Photos app, and also show up under "Pictures" once you've opened the Photos app.
Is there a way to hide a folder so it's physically in my UsersLibrariesPictures location, but WON'T show up under the Photos app?
Currently, I run Windows 7 Pro on dual 24" monitors, and life is good.
In Win 8, if I open the desktop tile, I presume that the default action is to open the full-screen desktop app on just 1 of the 2 monitors. I'm guessing that the "Start" screen remains on the 2nd monitor.
Can I have the desktop app open, full screen, across both monitors? Can I have icons for my so-called legacy programs littered across both monitors like I have them on the Win 7 desktop? Just to clarify, I am NOT asking about having the background wallpaper extend across both monitors. I want the actual desktop application to extend across both monitors.
Is there a way to change this so the computer starts with desktop showing instead of the tile menu? I know it's easy enough to click the desktop tile and go there, but I rarely use the tiles and would rather have the desktop come up automatically.
Upgrade from Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64 to Windows 8 64 bit
I found suggestions for:
1) Deleting OLE from the Registry under Local Microsoft Software - did not work 2) Create alternate users - did not work 3) User profile change - did not work 4) Change Display settings - did not work
Basically you can move windows 8 tiles right and left but if you have multiple rows you cannot directly swap tiles up and down.
For example imagine I have two rows of tiles each with two tiles so a1, a2 and b1 and b2. I can swap a1 with a2 and b1 with b2 without any issues. However moving b1 with a1 forces a1 to move to the right meaning a2 is now where b1 would be.
I'd love to be able to just swap them so swapping a1 and b1 would swap the two around and leave the others alone. Is there a way around this?
Is there a way to edit the content (path, name, image) of a standard Tile ? I like to p.e. alter the Weather-tile, so it goes to my favourite weather website.
I'm using an eyefinity setup that makes three monitors appear as one 5292 x1050 resolution monitor. I would like the tile group positions to default to the center of the screens. Right now the tile groups are positioned to the far left of the left monitor. Is there anyway to get the tile groups to stay more to the center of the available screen space so I don't have to keep looking to far left all the time? I'd also like to know if there's a way to add space between tile groups. The bezel compensation eyefinity feature is causing some rows of tiles to get covered up. Are there any settings for this or registry hacks I don't know about?
I deleted the default desktop tile (the one that shows your desktop wallpaper) from the start screen. I've tried Recuva to see if I could still recover the file, and searched the internet and the installation disk. Unfortunately, the file it is nowhere to be found... Is there's another way to retrieve it?
Ok, maybe I'm missing something but accessing the pictures (live pictures tile) folder from the start menu shows my photo's but not in the order I'd like them to be in. As such, to my horror I've found I can't move them around (re-arrange them).
I can obviously re-arrange them if I access the "My Pictures" folder through explorer, in fact they're actually arranged differently than what is displayed accessing it through the Windows Start Screen.
Anyway is it possible to arrange them there because trying to manually move them around proves fruitless.
Also, how do you take a snip of the stat screen using the snip tool? Win 8 can be annoying at times.
