I recently bought a Dell Inspiron with Windows 8.1. I loaded Paint shop Pro Photo X2 and the program runs fine. However if I exit the program I am unable to restart it. I changed the compatibilty setting to Windows XP service pk 3 and I was able to restart it. But the next day it won't restart. I have to turn off the computer and turn it back on to get the program running.
View 3 RepliesI have Jasc Paint shop Pro installed and when I try to open a picture with it, I don't get it on the list to select from. I have it installed on Program Files (86) and I copied it to Program Files in hopes that it would show up. I'm an ace at this program so prefer to edit my pics with this program.

I prefer this, even though some of the options are newer and better because I know PSP7 inside and out and can maneuver and edit so much better than learning a new program. I don't really want to learn a new program. Why isn't it an option? How can I make it an option?
I've started to like the new operating system a lot, but one thing puzzles me. If I open up an adobe file, or use a media player, I'm left in a screen that seems to have no "X" or exit button in the upper right hand corner. If I search through the settings I can't see anything that would close the app. Does going back to the desktop or the metro screen automatically shut down the window and process for the particular app?

1-The laptop can't exit sleep mode.....it either restarts or stops working (with the screen off and the power light on) every time I try to exit sleep mode. i haven't been able to solve this problem.
2- When the screen turn off after leaving the laptop idle for a while it won't turn on....this happened after I installed the latest AMD display driver from the AMD website......I managed to solve the problem by downgrading to the AMD driver version provided on the dell website.......sadly this driver causes lagging in games on the contrast of the version provided on the AMD website.
I have ASUS S400CA windows 8.1(upgraded from windows8). When I right click for openwith for jpg,png files, I get option of opening with Photo gallery. But in my Dell venue pro tablet with Windows 8.1, I don't get this option. Any way to get it in dell venue 8 pro?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI own dell inspiron 14z and i tried to install windows 8 on the 32SSD drive, i turned SATA controller to AHCI and installed the OS. Windows was booted ones and it was all fine but when i restarted the computer it consistently led to the screen "your pc ran into problem and needs to restart...." I tried turning back to ISRT and same, I reinstalled windows and turn the acceleration of but after installing the driver an error was occurred says "your computer does t meat the minimum requirements....".
I turned back to ISRT and tried to install the windows again but it could not find the hard drive even after browsing through usb (it was loading and loading but didn't find anything) and now i really don't know what to do...
I've got LATITUDE E7440 laptop with Win 8 Pro preinstalled. I need to disable driver signature enforcement in advanced options. I've read about how to do it in many places, but basically.. when I go to Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Startup Settings
And I push restart, menu for type of booting (below) doesn't appear. It just restarts as usual. Can I get to this menu in another way or why it doesn't appear?
I've got 4 laptops and this menu appeared only on one of them after restart. I've even reset it to its factory settings, but it didn't work out for me.
I finally got Windows 8 installed on my Dell M4600 dual boot with the Win 7 install. This is my business laptop so I needed to maintain full functions to Win 7 (I will completely migrate to 8 in the future) and ensure I could continue to work with it. I have two SSDs: Drive 0 is a 2.5" 256 GB used for data as d:. Drive 1 (this is how the bios designates them) was originally a 128GB MSATA SSD. I cloned this to a newer 240GB SSD to provide more room for the two OSs (and provide a good fail safe). With the clone I cleared the Dell recovery partitions and added the partition for Win 8. Currently I have some wasted space at the front but I will sort that out in the future. It has taken a week to get Win 8 up and running properly (tracking down drivers, getting the fingerprint scanner to work etc) but it seems to be stable and I have started to use it. Now to the problems:
1. The boot screen is the old Win 7 type (not really a problem by itself). I have used EasyBCD to adjust the default to Win 8. If I do a "restart" from 8 and then select 7 no problem. On the other hand, any restart to 8 brings up the MS flag and twirling thing and stops. I need to power down and start back up. No problem if I shutdown and then restart. I've been working on figuring out how the whole process works and I suspect the problem has to do with the switching drive letters depending on which OS is started and/or the Resume parameters in the BCD. Additionally, during all the hassle with installing Win 8 the boot loader is on the Win 7 partition. I'm hesitant to start using BCDedit on this laptop as I would prefer not to mess anything up. I also will not go through the hassle of re-installing Win 8 again - 3 or 4 times was enough.
2. At some point I will delete the Win 7 partition and expand the space for the Win 8 (I'll need to use some third party tools to do this). My concern is that the boot loader is on the Win 7 partition so how to move it to the Win 8 partition if possible.
I've attached two screen shots for the disk management status (win 7 an 8) and attachedoutput form BCDedit /enum all for both OSs.
What is this problem with my display, it suddenly stops and have to restart my Dell Vostro 3450.

If I scroll my cursor to the upper left side of the screen the desktop pic shows up so I can go back there, but now the PC Settings icon appears whenever my cursor is near the upper left of the screen and switches back to it. . Is there a way to completely exit out of PC Settings when you're finished?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know what is causing this problem. Every time I start wordpad it gives me a BSOD "Bad_Pool_Header" and pc resets. If I am in movie maker or MS Paint everything works fine until I insert a text box and it crashes... so I guess it must be something related with fonts??.. However, I have no problems with Microsoft Office programs.
I attached some mini dump files I collected after the resets.
I'm fine starting up in the Metro View. Panels and purple are friggin' great. Oh yeah. I love Windows 8.
But what is disproportionately annoying is that you HAVE to click on the [Desktop] panel with your mouse to get to the Desktop view that first time after a bootup. ???
Once you've done that, just once, THEN the Win key will work seamlessly to toggle back and forth - which is of course exactly how it should be.
Is it some kind of security protocol? Maybe if you delete the [Desktop] panel entirely you don't have access to the desktop view, thus allowing for some kind of Admin configuration for limited use?
Why? Is there a workaround? Is this a 8.1 thing and if I'd just shut-up the pain will go away in a couple months?
In fresh paint when you select save as the bar pops up but then closes instantly. in mail when trying to attach a file the bar pops up but then closes instantly. It happens in other places too!

Old W7 Desktop is the default when I close a program -- even if I started the program from Metro UI. I wish to see the Metro UI when I close any application. I do not like the extra keyboard press of the Windows key. How can I change Windows 8 such that I default to the Metro UI when I exit [close] any application?

After I did that, I pressed alt+F4 to exit the command prompt, so now I have a complete black screen with a cursor that I can move. I want to exit the safe mode now, to reboot again in normal mode. However, there is nothing to click on, alt+F4 doesn't work, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work, etc. There are some things that do work (for example win+P to connect a second screen, but I don't need that...). When I press the power button, it just goes to sleep. So I just want to get out of this situation. How to bring up command prompt again or shut it down completely ...

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn my Dell Latitude 10, when viewing HTML5 YouTube videos in full screen on IE10 in Modern mode, I can't bring up the playback or screen size controls. Tapping the screen shows the title of the video and the share and info icons, but nothing else. I can pinch to zoom the video, and can drag it around a little and see the actual page for the video underneath, but I haven't found a way to actually close full screen mode. When I switch to the Flash version of YouTube everything works as expected, i.e. tapping the screen brings up the controls at the bottom of the video.
A co-worker has a Surface Pro, but I haven't seen how YouTube behaves on that yet to see if it's a problem specific to the Latitude.
When I email photos from my iPad to a computer running Windows 8 I do not receive them or can not see them.

When I try the photos just appear as one large batch, and not in their folders still. I'm not sure if this is an iPhone issue or windows 8 issue....I have tried using an app such as PhotoManager Pro but still no luck. Do I just have to recreate the folders on my laptop?

This issue it happens for too long I can't open photos of any kind with the windows photo viewer, I don't know how it happened and I don't remember when. When I try to open nothing happens.. its like something happens for a fraction of a second and nothing. I tried almost everything, well, accept for restore but there is no chance I am doing it the cost is too big.
I just noticed that when i try to view a photo file, two processes pop for a fraction of a sec and immediately disappear, one is COM Surrogate and the other Windows Problem Reporting.
I have done a lot of searching to find a way to add a photo to my manually created contacts, in the People app in W8.
I have come to the conclusion that, for whatever reason, this is not possible.how to do this
I'm trying to print images/pictures using windows photo viewer and I get this error "Your pictures can't be printed because this error occurred".... It doesn't tell me which error.. simply just says that in the dialog box. THe dialog box comes out like 4 times with the same message and I have to click OK.
I've already tried googling it and the only fix I can find is replacing photowiz and I already did but it has fixed. I've also installed Photo Gallery and it stil lgives me the same error when I try to print and picture. I've also reinstalled all my printer drivers...
