Dell :: Inspiron 5323 - Remove ALL Data And Install Ubuntu
Aug 10, 2013I would like to remove all data from my Inspiron 5323 and install ubuntu.
View 1 RepliesI would like to remove all data from my Inspiron 5323 and install ubuntu.
View 1 RepliesMy Windows 8 is corrupted on my VAIO Sony Laptop, so I tried to install Ubuntu-12.04.2 to access my data. I didn't get very far, however, because after I selected to boot from 'internal optical drive' and 'enabled' for 'secure boot' in the UEFI, and put the Ubuntu CD in, the screen went black. Now, I can't get it to switch on again at all nor can I get the CD out of the drive. When I press the 'assist' button to boot through UEFI or the power button to boot normally, the power and battery lights illuminate for the amount of time I'm holding either button down but nothing else happens. It's a new laptop - model SVE151G13M - that I bought in Germany very recently but can't get fixed under warranty because I'm currently in South Africa and the warranty is not valid here.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a usb 3.0 pendrive expecting it to be faster, but it gives me similar data transfer speeds(5-6mbps) while using it on usb 3.0 (superspeed ports)or usb 2.0 ports..... I have installed renesas electronics usb 3.0 driver....and using win8 as operating system..
Do I expect similar speeds from usb 2.0 as well as usb 3.0 ports or can it be enhanced in any way??
Also any link for compatible 3.0 driver or bios upgrade.
My laptop is doing this really weird thing where it wont let me login at all and I dont know what to do...
It says "This computer system, #G6BVXJ1-595B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password"
Then asks for me to enter in the system or administration password
Here's a picture of what it shows - [URL] .....
We use nothing but Dell at work..the software we use (Progress) was installed on Win XP computers which we are replacing with new units We have Progress working on several Win 7 Pro pc's and one Win 8 Enterprise pc..so we bought an all-in-one Inspiron 2330 with Win 8...can't join a domain so we downloaded a 8 Pro upgrade..we install Progress as administrators and it appears to install correctly but it won't open..we even put Win 7 Pro on the 2330 loaded all the right drivers, installed Progress and it still won't open...so 2 different versions of Windows are working Progress on other Dell pc's but it won't work on the 2330...what am I missing here? Is there a bios setting because it seems to be the pc...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 7520 using a pendrive.
Apparently there is no option for this in the boot menu.
I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15R which arrived this week. I have already decided that I am going to install my own copy of Windows 8.1 Professional on to my system.
I have tried this several times now and I keep failing. I am booting from my DVD and the install goes fine. However during install I am normally prompted to enter my Serial for 8.1 and it does not do this. It progresses as though everything is ok, I can format the Hard drive and then it proceeds to install Windows 8.1.
Once fully installed I then go to see if it is activated and to my surprise it is. It has activated with the same Serial as the OEM that came with the laptop.
I have also noticed that this copy of 8.1 cannot join the laptop to my own domain (the options to do this are greyed out) which I am also wanting to do. So this copy of 8.1 is not the copy I am trying to install.
How can I install my own copy of 8.1. I think this is something to do with Dells bios configuration but not sure where to start.
I have 2.5 years old Dell Inspiron 15r n5010 with Intel Core i3 processor (M370 @2.4 GHz) and 3gb RAM. Right now I have Windows 7 (64 bit) installed on my machine. I have two questions:
1. Can I install Windows 8.1 (64bit) on my machine?
2. There is no driver available for Windows 8 for this series of laptop on Dell's site. In that case, can I use Video, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth drivers of Windows 7 (64 bit) for Windows 8.1 (64 bit)?
P.S.: Dell provide drivers for Windows 8 for Inspiron 15r n5110 series of laptop. Can I use n5110 series of drivers on my n5010 series of laptop?
Can't Install Windows 8.1 in my Dell Inspiron N5110. After completing the installation a black screen will come and system will hang.
I've tried several times reinstalling but, same result.
I recently called Dell support about my Inspiron 15R SE not booting and they determined my hard drive had crashed. They shipped a new hard drive to me and got me to install it but I had problems installing windows 8 as it was factory installed using UEFI.
Windows 8 setup would start but immediately gave an error about missing a media driver. The driver and utility discs I was provided did not seem to work at all. I called Dell support again but the guy I was talking to just told me that UEFI was confusing and told me to go into bios and change to legacy boot, which worked and I am now running windows 8 in legacy boot mode.
But is there a way I can reinstall in UEFI? From my brief research, it seems to be more efficient... Is there a driver I am missing that wouldn't be on the windows or driver and utilitys discs?
Doesn't seem like phone support people know much about UEFI ...
I reloaded windows 7 in my Inspiron 7720 SE 17R but now when I try to install the Intel Rapid Start Technology from the driver cd that was supplied with the computer inside the box it gives me an error " This Computer does not meet the minimum requirements to run this software "
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and yesterday evening I updated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. This went good. Only this morning I noticed my webcam don't work anymore. Before the update it worked fine. I use it daily to talk with my girl.
The only applicatie we use it for is facebook. When I use Dell Systeem Detect, and I let it check my webcam, it shows and it gives images. So I think it is not a problem of the hardware.
I also tried to download Dell Webcam Manager 2.0 but that says I dont have a special card in my laptop. Also when typed in my service tag in de website, I didn't get any new drivers / programs for the webcam.
I have been given a dell inspiron 531 with 64 bit AMD processor, running 32 bit vista home basic, that has responded well to RAM upgrade to 4GB.
I want to install 64 bit win 8 pro media centre which I have on an original MS CD. either over current vista or on separate partition as dual boot.
For some reason the dell wont read the MS win 8 64 disk (or any other original MS OS disks I have (vista-32/7-64/8-32)) but reads pretty much everything else (DVD's excepted as currently has no DVD reading software.)..either through explorer or during boot..it is not only original ms discs that are a problem as dell won't read Windows 8-64 enterprise trial iso I burned myself either.
I have tried turning off security software (MS security essentials/MS firewall)..no change.
CD's all read fine via explorer on my lightly hopped up HP tx1340ea running win 8-64 pro media centre.
I just bought a Dell Inspiron 3537 with 500 gb hard drive capacity, 4 GB RAM, no graphics card and came with UBUNTU as its OS. So I made a clean install of Windows 8.1 pro myself. All the drivers that have been provided by the site installed perfectly, except for the 1705 wireless and bluetooth driver. It says that the driver isnt for my platform .. wth :@I even tried checking my drivers via Intel and it says that it doesnt recognize my wireless card.
View 10 Replies View Relatedmy dell inspiron 7520 running windows 8 on it but i have purchase a windows 8 pro and wish to install on it.
i delete all the partition inside hard disk, put in the disk and boot on it but a message pop up "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key."
how can i solve it? how can i install windows 8 pro with the windows 8 pro key? can i delete the license key in BOIS?
I bought my Inspiron 17R SE with Windows 8 installed in December 2012. I have tried my best to get to grips with Windows 8 but for the most part I don't like it. I tried using Classic Shell so it looked like Windows 7 but I still did not like it. Windows 8 seems to me to be not realy suitable for Laptop use.
I want to uninstall Windows 8 and install my own copy of Windows 7 Pro but I am not sure if it will install on a Laptop originally setup for Windows 8. I have asked Technical Support about this but I was told that Dell would not support this.
How to achieve what I want...I have read that the Bios settings needs to be changed before I start but don't know what to do.
I installed Ubuntu 14.04 a few weeks ago and I was happy about it, but I need to sell this PC and I need to install Windows in it. The problem here is that I erased the recovery partition by accident and I can't install Windows with a CD because my computer doesn't have a disk case, the model of my PC is Lenovo Yoga 11s.
I tried to make a booteable Windows 7 USB with Unetbootin, but the BIOS doesn't let me boot from the USB slot. My BIOS configuration was in Legacy Support and my USB was the priority to boot. My USB was formatted in NTFS. When I open the boot menu it take me to the Grub of Ubuntu.
I don't know what else to do... I just need to install Windows, it doesn't matter if is 7 or 8.
I had ubuntu within my windows 7 earlier. Later when i installed windows 8, i formatted the partition ( E: ) in which ubuntu was installed, since the wubi uninstaller was not working. Still when i start my system, it shows ubuntu listed in the boot list. I tried to load it once. It gave an error. There is no error when i select the default windows 8.
Now i checked the boot option in the msconfig as per the thread, but only windows 8 is listed there, no ubuntu. But still it is listed in the boot menu. I tried the disk manager, the only partition without NTFS file system is the one with status "healthy (OEM partition)". I dont know whether its a ubuntu partition. And there is no option to delete it also. No other ubuntu partition. I want to remove the ubuntu boot option from my os list. How to do it?
I have a Dell XPS 8500 win 8.1. I recently installed Linux Mint 17 on an external HD which booted from GRUB. I now removed Mint 17 ok but I'm left with a reference to 'UBUNTU' in my bootloader. I'm unable to remove this reference. this reference to UBUNTU prevents me from booting from a LINUX USB. I think I need to repair the bootloader but can't and I have tried all sorts of.....FIXBOOT, FIXMBR. etc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt says I cannot install windows 8.1 because ubuntu doesn't use ntfs partition but ext4. How can I do a clean install of windows 8.1?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow can I install linux ubuntu alongside windows 8.1.I already have all the things required like bootable CD/USB , linux ubuntu 12.04 LTE.iso .
The problem with it is that in most of the youtube videos i have seen , is that they say about not having more than 4 partitions. But currently it shows in my computer management that i have so many partitions. And i have heard some of the people crashed their system while installing it.
My Laptop Specs :-
6GB Ram
Intel i5 3230m
1TB HDD
Amd radeon hd 8570 and intel graphic
So I downloaded the ISO and burned it via unetbootin. I go into bios and change the following settings: disable fast boot, and make the OS selection CMS make USB boot first Then when i boot, it just boots back to windows 8. I also noticed that once I reboot back into bios, the USB is not set to first boot as I set it initially.
By the way I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with nividia graphics.
I upgraded my HP windows 7 pre-installed to windows 8.01. I tried ubuntu 13 using wubi then i removed it but once I switch on my pc , I get windows 8.01 then ubunto( which fails to boot due to windows boot error) I kept booting windows 8.01 that was working fine till I installed ubuntu 14.04 after I left an allocated partition for it to install. I made manual partition using the free space and installed ububtu. After installation, I did not find grub and I got black screen: windows fails to start ; oxc000001. after I used boot repair cd, I fixed my ubuntu and brought back grub. now the situation is I find grub 2 with ubuntu that I can access but the windows 8.01 load is not working. All my files are in windows. how to get windows 8.01 back to boot? I tried repair disc but it did not fix it stating disk error and partition drive missing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 17R SE.
The first thing I wanted to do to it was transfer the OS to an SSD, and use the 1TB drive that came with the computer as a data drive.
I wanted to shrink the C: OS partition so it would fit on my SSD but the Windows Shrink Partition tool wouldn't let me due to unmovable files.
I tried using the Windows 7 File Recovery backup tool to do a backup. With over 500 GB space on my backup drive and only 65 GB used on the 1Tb drive I was backing up, it kept telling me not enough disk space. Eventually I gave up.
I opted to install EaseUS TODO Backup and tried to backup the the whole 1TB drive. It raised an error indicating too many unnamed partitions. I opted to backup only the C: OS and the EFI System partition - leaving 3 oem hidden partitions not backed up as I wasn't going to do anything to them anyway. It worked.
I used EaseUS Partition Master to shrink the C: OS partition to 120 GB. Worked again.
I thought now would be the time to generate the Windows backup - created an image OK. Afterward however, it failed to generate the system recovery disk indicating some invalid parameter error. This was concerning. I went to the Dell Backup and Recovery tool and it told me it couldn't find the recovery partition. Not good again.
In disk management, all partitions are still there. I'm pretty sure the 3 OEM hidden partitions (40Mb, 500Mb, and 14.73Gb) had names in brackets like 'Healthy (Recovery Partition)', ... They all just say 'Healthy (OEM Partition)'. I'm guessing EaseUS Partition Master messed up their names and/or messed with their content.
At this point, the computer still works fine, and on the second pass I was able to backup the entire drive using EaseUS TODO Backup. I can't use the Dell or Windows backup utilities. I'm not sure what mess I created by messing up the 3 oem partitions, or if I can recover somehow.
Diagnostics says all is fine no problems found. I can boot to bios... cant boot to safe mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy dell Inspiron 15 7537 crashed by itself yesterday.
It wants to restart and repair itself but every time it does it fails and tries again.
What should/can I do to repair it?
Or should I just try to install windows 8 again? And how do I do that?
I have just upgraded to Win 8.1 (Pro) OS.
I have downloaded and installed new drivers for Win 8 (Pro) last year.
Are the drivers for Win 8 suitable for Win 8.1 PC?
May I know if Dell going to come up with new drivers for Win 8.1?

I was wanting to dual boot a Dell pc inspiron 600 with win 8. I thought I will breeze through it like I used to circa WXP/Vista/W7 and didn't research what changes there might be with Windows 8. I have focused my attention more on Android and I really should have done that research.
I hadn't backed up externally docs that I needed to save - so I will remove the drive and copy the contents to my laptop to be on the safer side. So the first wrong move has led to missteps.
I downloaded Easus and created a blank disk space before the current active partition instead of behind it. I thought I needed to have win 7 in the first partition. Before rebooting I also installed a popular freeware boot selection manager (I totally forget the name but I know some most will know the one I am referring to EDIT: ***EasyBCD*** ). It gave me a warning that no bootable system was selected. I kept editing to point it to current Windows 8 but nothing changed. It also warned me that my pc might not boot. I thought I will fix it to a bootable drive with my old discs-Ultimate boot cd, CPM, etc. Easus performed creation of the new partition and then trouble started. It refused to boot.
None of my discs are working as they did before Windows 8. on UBCD Fdisk cannot find any partition it can make active. I decided not to write an new MBR. My windows 7 install CD is giving me the "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition X" details ->"The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."
Here are the partitions
My questions are: At this point I don't mind to have only windows 7 installed or if this situation is salvageable a dual boot then I don't have to remove the drive to copy the docs. I can just boot into 7 (which is what I mainly want to use) and just have access to Windows 8 partition from there to access my docs. I would prefer not to pull the drive out if I can avoid it but only if I know for sure what I am doing.
Second question : I believe partition 3: 489GB is the newly created one and Part 4 OS would be the Wind 8 partition. How can I know for sure that this is the wind 8 partition?
If I format the partition 3: 489GB will windows now allow for windows 7 to be installed?
Is there any way I can fix windows 8 partition to boot?
Lastly the basic question is how do I fix this error so that I Can install windows 7?
I don't have any pre-created OS discs of Windows 8. My current laptop is a toshiba win 7.
I have a new laptop with Windows 8 and I really like it. I also have an older Dell Inspiron 1521 with an AMD 64 bit processor, 4 gig of RAM and a 160 gig SSD. It runs Win7 just fine and I believe it will run Windows 8. My new laptop came with 8 installed so I don't have a box to check the low end specs for running 8. I have Linux on it now and I would like to run both. It boots in to Linux in 20 seconds, about the same time as my new Windows 8 laptop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHey I just got a brand new Dell Inspiron with Windows 8 (got it yesterday). In the power options I have the settings set to sleep when closing the lid of the laptop, but the computer seems to always turn off. When I open the lid, my computer is completely off and I have to press the power button to turn it back on and wait for windows to reload.
This is not a battery problem as it happens even when plugged in. I have also tried using the command prompt "powercfg /hibernate on" but it hasn't fixed anything.
