Setup Installation :: Windows 8 - Error Oxc00001 After Install Ubuntu 14
Aug 28, 2014
I upgraded my HP windows 7 pre-installed to windows 8.01. I tried ubuntu 13 using wubi then i removed it but once I switch on my pc , I get windows 8.01 then ubunto( which fails to boot due to windows boot error) I kept booting windows 8.01 that was working fine till I installed ubuntu 14.04 after I left an allocated partition for it to install. I made manual partition using the free space and installed ububtu. After installation, I did not find grub and I got black screen: windows fails to start ; oxc000001. after I used boot repair cd, I fixed my ubuntu and brought back grub. now the situation is I find grub 2 with ubuntu that I can access but the windows 8.01 load is not working. All my files are in windows. how to get windows 8.01 back to boot? I tried repair disc but it did not fix it stating disk error and partition drive missing.

So I downloaded the ISO and burned it via unetbootin. I go into bios and change the following settings: disable fast boot, and make the OS selection CMS make USB boot first Then when i boot, it just boots back to windows 8. I also noticed that once I reboot back into bios, the USB is not set to first boot as I set it initially.
By the way I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with nividia graphics.

So my windows 8.1 installation became corrupted, so I backed up data and did a clean install after deleting all partitions.
After the install on the first boot, right after the process of "installing apps", it showed an error message saying an error occurred causing windows to restart, and created a memory.dmp file.
I just want to make sure this installation is stable before continuing to update to 8.1, especially after my previous issues. There are also some errors in the event log that I don't understand.
The errors came after install of Windows 8, as that was the key I had.
Windows failed to download and install 92 updates with error code 80248007

I bought a new SSD and want to do a clean install on it, however am having problems during the install process and receive the following message:
Windows 8 cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007025d
The install images was downloaded from the Microsoft website and I have tried using a USB thumb drive and DVD install disc and both receive the same error. I have used the DVD disc when I originally installed Windows 8 Pro on the same desktop but on an IDE harddrive and believe the disc should still work (i.e. no scratches on it).
Here's how I prepared to install:
1. Unplugged all harddrives except for brand new SSD (Crucial M4 128 GB SSD)
2. Changed bios settings to AHCI (before was on IDE) (using Asus P5k-V motherboard)
I'm not sure what's going on if the harddrive is corrupt, the bios settings need to be tweaked, the drive is incompatible with my motherboard or something else.
I don't want to go back to using the IDE drive to boot windows but rather use the new SSD.

Ive just done a clean installation of Windows 8. I checked device manager straight away. There was a listing under Other Devices with an exclamation mark listed only as "Media". Ive never seen that before so I havent a clue what it referred to. When I clicked on its properties it said Internal High Definition Audi Bus. Was this a serious issue..maybe a corrupted installation?
I wasn't sure what to do but because I had installed from Windows CD and not factory image I had to go to the Dell site and then install the Intel Chipset software. I then rebooted. The Media icon and exclamation error then disappeared from Device Manager.
Was it the Reboot of my PC that got rid of it or was it the Intel Chipset software being installed that sorted it out? Also what is "Media" referring to or is it just a generic term? Also, Im always confused as to what is the difference between an exclamation mark and the blue question mark on a white background in Device Manager which Ive seen before too?

I recently built a rig (spec below) and originally installed windows 7.
I decided today I would install windows 8.1 as I get it for free from my university. I booted the installation disc in EFI mode, wiped the SSD and deleted all partitions. I let windows create the partitions it needs and proceeded to install.
The installation got up to 2% in expanding windows files and showed error:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure that all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x800070570.
I rebooted and tried again several times and the same thing happened whether I chose EFI cd boot or not.
I then reinstalled windows 7 without any issues, and downloaded an 8.1 pro disc image from mydigitallife. The installation got a little further into expanding windows files, but the same error came up again.
Ive been reading that it may be a memory issue so i'm the process of reinstalling windows 7 and running memtest86+, but I doubt this is the case as its a mew system and windows 7 has no trouble
System Spec:
Mobo: Asus P8 Z77-V LX2
CPU: Intel i7 2600k (no overclock)
RAM: Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600mhz (one module)
GPU: GeForce 650Ti

Created a bootable flash drive using Universal USB Installer from WindowsBlue-ClientwithApps-64bit-English-X1899605.iso. Create completed successfully with 452MB of free space left on a 4GB flash drive.
During install, I get this about 10 seconds after the ugly fish appears during install.
I'll burn a DVD and try it but much prefer a flash drive for install.

I have just had limited success installing Ubuntu 12.10 onto an external diskon my new Samsung (series 3) Windows 8 laptop.
The secure boot and fast start up have been disabled.
The situation now is that Windows or Ubuntu will not boot up after pressing the power button, when doing this I get a dark screen with the following message:
error: no such device: 6dada016-95df-4ef5-a343-4a77e8afd396
grub rescue >_
I can now only boot up either program by hitting the F10 key directly afterpressing the power button, I then have to select one of the options in the boot options before themachine will boot (both systems boot up as normal when following this option).
if the external drive is not plugged into the USB port I want mylaptop to boot directly into Windows 8. Can this be achieved?. I would like to start Ubuntu through the settings, change PC settings option.

I've had this Windows 8 computer for a while and I've decided that I want to dual-OS Ubuntu 13.10, but how to partition disks or backup system images or anything like that. I'm not even sure how to check what kind of ASUS my laptop is, but I'm fairly certain it is compatible with Ubuntu. If I can, I'd like to avoid using external hard-drives and CD's because I don't have easy access to either.

I decided to pass on Windows 8 because my laptop is not working properly with Ubuntu (When you turn on or when the charger is on and connected his laptop so restart (P.S. When a car is on and run virtual "VirtualBox" and connect the charger stays lit))
And I would like to know how can I switch from Ubuntu to Windows without using DVD / USB?
P.S. The laptop is Toshiba Satellite A300 PSAG0E.

I am trying to install Windows 8 64 Bit on a HP 2530p laptop using a USB Flash Drive that I set up with DiskPart and copied OS files to - from DVD disc. I first tried to install using a DVD disc in a external DVD RW I plugged into USB port of laptop - this laptop has no built-in optical drive. I got the same error code with DVD disc that I get with USB Flash drive. I formatted HD during beginning of install so there is no OS on laptop...
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570.
I ran a MemTest86 and did a HD Test from BIOS and both passed.

8.1 install error 0xC1900101-0x40019 and 0x80070652 and Windows 8.1 installation failed and reverted back to Windows 8.0
I'm lucky the computer even came back to life. I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 video card, so the review from ADRStudio replied on February 15, 2014 on page 18
could address this problem but I'm not so sure. I can't find the Win 8.1 drivers at HP for my machine, they only offer Windows 7 or 8.
I've been reading Latest Win 8.1 ISO "Breaks" System Image Functionality
and on my dual boot laptop with Win 7, this may be a fatal error when trying to install Win 8.1 because 8.1 adds another System partition and kills off the one I had been using.
how widespread & long-going it is, I'm gonna stick to Win 8.0 for now.

Since I installed Ubuntu onto my computer, I couldn't boot the Windows 8. I tried installation DVD to repair, but it didn't work. I tried these solutions; solution1, solution2, none of them worked either. I tried refreshing, it stopped at 37%.
When I use diskpart to list partitions from command prompt via the installation DVD, I chose the right partition, but I couldn't activate it.

I'm wanting to upgrade my laptop to Windows 8. I currently have Ubuntu 12.10 installed alongside Windows 7. I've had a lot of trouble getting ubuntu installed and working (AMD graphics ) so I'd like to just leave that as is.
Is it possible to just install windows 8 over W7 in the same partition? How do I go about doing that? Is it as straight forward as just putting the disk in or is the whole secure boot thing going to cause issues? I want to do a clean install rather than using the upgrade assistant to install Windows 8 over W7.

I have problem about booting from usb. I will add a short video about what is going on when I am trying to boot from usb but first let me show you picture of my system information.
I have tried 2 different usb to boot and one of them is shown in boot page but not opened the other one act like it does not exist. First usb worked on 2 different computer. Second one haven't tried on an other computer. I am using Universal USB Installer which is recommended by Ubuntu to creat bootable USB.
NOT 1: I wrote "Ubuntu" bu I think problem is not realated with what kind of bootable OS has it in.

Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu- Create on my C drive (unique drive on my laptop):*a partition for the system*one for Windows 8*one for Data and *last one for Ubuntu OS
My aim is :-to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Checkpoint Splat with virtual machines to perform CCSA labs.- to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP labs but with GNS3 accessing files in the Data partition.
I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750Gb and 8 Go RAM.According to you what's the best size for my partitions? Is there a better way to partition my C drive regarding my aim?

So I'm trying to run dual OS on my new windows 8 machine. I made a bootable Ubuntu 14.04 usb stick using Rufus, disabled secure boot and proceeded in attempting to install the system. However, (settings->general->advanced startup->use a device) won't detect my bootable USB. It won't boot from it at startup either, no matter how much I fiddle with the UEFI settings.
Well, I guess that is not entirely true, as I managed to get it to boot and install ubuntu after switching the UEFI boot settings to legacy boot. But windows 8 does not work under that option, so I'm having to go and change the UEFI boot setting every time I wish to use a different OS.

I have been researching installing Ubuntu alongside Win 8.on my daughters laptop. I already boot Ubuntu & Win 7 on my desktop pc, but I have read some horror stories about installing Ubuntu with Win 8., mostly in regard to the uefi boot system in Win 8., as well as, its a laptop as opposed to desktop.
I have been told that i must enter the bios first and disable secure boot. Most of the tutorials I have read are very complex. Then i read a tutorial from this website, dated 2011 that appeared to be simple, and similar to my own Ubuntu/Win 7 installation, however it was dated 2011.
Dual Boot Windows 8 And Ubuntu : Windows 8 Guides
The only difference with my intended installation is that I will use a dvd as my Pc does not have a USB Boot option.

I have a big problem since 9/9 and I just can`t fix it.
I have a dual boot system and use Windows 8 as my main OS and on the other ssd I have ubuntu 12.10 installed.
My issue started because I completely forgot that I had ubuntu installed on the other ssd (didn`t use it anyway) and tried to raid the ssd...so now I can`t boot anything and I do need to restore my Windows 8.
I have a usb recovery disk which allows me to use cmd but I don`t know how to use to recover my Windows 8 so that`s why I am here.
I ran diskpart on cmd it it shows both disks and both are ONLINE.
Ran chkdsk /f but i keep getting an error and chkdsk does not run
I have asus P8Z77-V LX UEFI Mobo
Intel rapid Smart technology (RST), Intel Smart Connect Technoly is disabled.
CSM is ENABLED ( it was AUTO) and boot device control to UEFI and LEGACY OpROM.
Secure Boot is disabled and I changed the OS type to OTHER OS and also tried WINDOWS UEFI MODE. The setup mode is EZ MODE.

I currently have a machine installed with Windows 8 pro 64 bit installed on one Samsung 840 pro SSD. Works great. I recently added a second Crucial m4 SSD and would like to install Linux on it... I am having major issues doing so mainly because of UEFI... and when installing Linux it does not see Windows 8 installed on any drive therefore making it rather difficult to install both OSes.

I have managed to wipe my Windows partition while installing the latest release of Ubuntu (v14.04). I've had my HDD split in two with both Windows 8 (updated to 8.1 Update) and Ubuntu and dual-booted between them for over a year.
During the Ubunut install it informed me that I had a previous version of Ubuntu and would I like to wipe the partition that it occupied and install cleanly. I chose that. It also offered a chance to use free space. Now, why I accepted that I don't know but the definition of free space seems to include any other partitions on the drive and didn't warn of this either!
The upshot is that I now have a 1TB drive with no Windows on it. I've lost all my email, pics etc etc.
I tried using my rescue DVD that I created from within Windows and at 29% I am asked to insert the second disc. I don't have a second disk. I had to force my laptop to power down in order to do anything. In order to get online I ended up installing Ubuntu again and it definitely shows no Windows partition.
I've already ordered a retail copy of Windows 8.1 and I'm hoping that I can install this with no issues on what is effectively a clean drive. Am I correct in that assumption? Is there anything else I can try that might rescue it?
I have a Dell Inspiron 17r SE that is out of warranty so no support from Dell.

I have an Acer V3-571 (i5, 6GB ram, 500GB HDD, Win 8 pre-installed from new).
I have been trying all day to install 8.1 to no avail. 5 or 6 times.
It starts the install okay then near the end the install stops and gives an error code 0xC1900101 - 0xC3000D
And asks me to restart and reverts to Win 8. One thing I have noticed is that the 'Windows software licence terms' box does not appear at any point.
I forgot to mention I run 'Start is back' normally, but uninstalled it just in case.

I can't get Windows 8 installed.
I have a new intel build with a brand new kingston hyperx SSD. I get through to selecting a drive to install Windows and have tried
1. Using the single unallocated drive
2. Creating new partition unformatted (this creates 2 partitions for me. A system and a primary)
3. Formatting the new primary partition (which always fails)
With option 1 it remains at 0% files copied on next screen and goes to "could not format partition... error code 0x80070057"
Option 2 AND 3 yield the same error.
When attempting to clean the disk through cmd prompt using "Clean" in Diskpart, I receive a "redundancy cyclic error"
System:
Asus P77V LX
Intel 3570k
Kingston HyperX 120GB
Kingston HyperX 2x8GB 1600MHz
Windows 8 System Builder DVD
I have previously been running windows 8 dev edition on a 32 bit drive but need to upgrade.
