It's a phto I want and can not for the life of me find it in my photos folder. Is it possible I removed it from my pictures album yet still is on desktop? If so, is there any way to capture my desktop photo so I can have it again?
View 3 RepliesMy problem is that all my thumbnails that would normally show as the actual picture in any file or folder including ones saved to the desktop have all been replaced with a windows generic mountain and sun cartoon. The only way I can see what any individual picture file is ...is to physically click on it and open it up in a viewer. This is a royal pain to try to find any individual picture to say the least.
.I get a error message saying restore could not be completed...try choosing a different restore date.........I have tried them all.....same error message
I accidentally deleted the entire My Pictures folder from my library. How do I get it back? I was trying to delete an album and it deleted the entire library of pictures. My photos are still in the Windows 8 library just not the My folders library.

View 24 Replies View RelatedDisregard the Photos & SkyDrive apps, (Picture files). I select Pictures in File Explorer on the Desktop. I select a photo, right click it & choose: 'Send to'>'Mail recipient', an 'Attach files' dialog box opens, I choose the picture size I want & click 'Attach', another box opens captioned 'Email Client selection', I select 'Use System Default'>OK. Mail opens up.
The heading of the email folder reads: Emailing: (Caption/Title of the photo) in blue colouring. No copy of picture selected. I send it to myself. It comes back in the 'Inbox' with the same sentence in blue, (but still no picture). I try to click on the blue caption. Nothing. I highlight it, it only gives me the privilege of Copying the caption. How do I send a photo from Pictures in the File Explorer?
I accidently deleted the desktop folder that holds most things like documents, downloads, google drive, dropbox, etc. I checked the recycle bin but it's now there. I searched on C drive and, of course, it's not there. I found it or something similar in File Explorer (but with a new name I believe). I copied the entire folder to the desktop. Now, when I add something to dropbox (one of the folders in the folder I deleted) the document is in dropbox on their website, but not in dropbox in the folder on the desktop that I just copied to. So....
How do I locate the folder I accidently deleted that originally contained many important files (e.g., AppData, contacts, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Dropbox, favorites.... music, pictures) etc.?
I was in the process of "sending to" the information from the original desktop folder to Dropbox as a backup - when the computer hiccupped or whatever and instead of clicking send to, clicked delete. The folder disappeared and is NOT in the Recycle Bin. Except for the one I found in the File Folder with a different name, I can't find what I deleted.
I deleted the default desktop tile (the one that shows your desktop wallpaper) from the start screen. I've tried Recuva to see if I could still recover the file, and searched the internet and the installation disk. Unfortunately, the file it is nowhere to be found... Is there's another way to retrieve it?

I'm having the same problem, where I deleted the file by accident and now there is no live tile for the desktop anywhere on the start screen, not even in the All Apps category. I can't find it in the Windows Store either. What do I do? Here is a screenshot of the folder that I *think* held the original desktop file.

It installs fine and it shows up in my lists of screensavers and I'm able to preview it. BUT when I try to apply it in 'Personalization' it just says 'None.' See attached screenshot.
I was able to install another screensaver which let me apply it just fine -- sadly, the album art screensaver is the only one I want, but it won't let me do it!
When you have music in a folder, usually the folder picture would be that of the album art of the music in the folder or just the file. Usually it would be just one picture sticking out of the folder. Recently when I gained more music, some of the album folders displayed two pictures sticking out instead of one. I have tried everything and also checked that all the tags and details are identical but made no difference. I attached two images. The first is how I would like the folder to look like, the second is how the wrong folder looks like. All music files are .mp3

Any easy solution aside from using a shell extension.
The only possible solution I found in another thread and will post it here: "I fixed the problem as it was mainly due to corrupted registry for some strange reason.i imported the .mp3 dile extension key from registry and opened it using notepad and replaced all .mp3 extension with .m4a and saved it as .m4a.reg and run it and had to do a system restart after that thumbnails again started showing up in windows explorer as normal.such as in the below screenshot"
My question: I don't have a corrupted registry as I just did a fresh install only a week ago. So, is it possible for me to edit the registry as this person suggests? how would I go about doing so exactly? I have no experience messing with registry files .
Windows or some other program on my computer automatically creates hidden files containing album art or song art in my music folders such as "Folder.jpg" or "AlbumArtSmall.jpg". I'm looking for a way to make this random generating stop because it's messing up my music library in Zune. I use MP3Tag and iTunes to apply song art manually to my songs, but the picture files that appear in the folders replace the song art that I added myself and it messes everything up.
In attempt to fix the issue I disabled all of the automatic album art downloading in "Tools > Options > Library" in Windows Media Player (just in case it was causing the problem) but still nothing. I tried deleting these files but they just come back again after a while.
I recently deleted a user account, and clicked yes to also delete all associated files...the user was successfully deleted, however, the user's folders/files remain, and cannot be deleted. Is it possible to associate that user's folder with a new user's login? If not, what needs to be done in order to delete the remaining user folder?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently migrated to Windows 8. My music collection stumbled along the way and I had to re-fetch artwork for a few albums in WMP. I also set it up in iTunes. My default app for MP3s is WMP. As you can see below, artwork only appears when in the folder view (which somewhat defeats the purpose of libraries in the first place). I'd prefer to sort them by artist, with album art displayed without a folder, as it should and as it did in Windows 7.
Art appears in folder view but not artist or album view.
On a related note, I recently added many new MP3s to my collection. When I opened Xbox Music for the first time afterwards, it seemed to be downloading art to add it to my older albums, all of which have art. Then the process was somehow interrupted. I believe I closed the app. Then, when I opened it again, none of them had art.
I'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc. I tried deleting C:UsersxxxxxxxxAppDataLocalIconCache.db then rebooting, no change.
I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.
I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything. This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.
In the process of setting up my new computer with an SSD and HDD, I managed to delete the pictures folder. I got it back, but now when I click on the Pictures folder inside the libraries folder, all the data in my HDD comes up. Whatever I did, I somehow made my D: drive to the format of my pictures folder.

I am unable to do this as the photos are being arranged in date & time order....and I cannot seem to change this. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a 64-bit system running 8.1 Pro. I am unable to preview any files (.doc, .docx, .txt, .pdf, .xlsx, etc.) in the preview pane of File/Windows Explorer. I can preview pictures, but that's it. The only thing that I've been able to find online are uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" and using the Adobe Reader preview handler x64 fixer tool. Neither of these solutions have worked. What else can I try?

Is there any way for me to pick my own pictures folders instead of having to move my pictures into a Windows default folder only to have to move them again (or lose them)
I have a problem here, in the last two days, I can't see any preview of my pictures (not only pictures, but videos too). I've tried cleaning the old thumbnails using Disk Cleanup, but no work. Whilst transferring all my picture files across from my old laptop I seem to have deleted the public pictures folder within my personal library. After a bid of searching around I have found the Public Pictures folder under the "public" area of the C: directory. It appears to only be missing only in my profile account (other profiles are also unaffected).
My question is how do I restore this folder? If I copy and paste the source public pictures folder I appear to be making a complete copy, rather than a shortcut type link to the files.
How do I transfer pictures in Skydrive to Photos, & if I Select all of them & select Download will they still also remain in Skydrive. And what dows 'Upload' mean & how do I use it.

If I insert a flash drive with pictures on it & select 'Import' in Photos, it will import the photos but after supposedly downloading them, nothing! I have the 'Show photos & videos' box ticked off in Settings on the Charms panel.
