Can't See Real Pics When Opening In Apps Such As Adobe Photoshop?
Apr 18, 2013
When selecting FILES and OPEN in apps such as ADOBE PHOTOSHOP (and others) all I can see is silly little fake pics instead of the real one. Very maddening and am unable to figure out how to change it in WINDOWS8. Seems to be a default fixed feature but I surely hope not.
I just downloaded Adobe reader 11, and have been trying to open pdf files from the "My Documents" folder. Specifically files that I have just written and saved from MS Word. Adobe says: "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." However, if I save the file into the Downloads folder, it will open no problem.
I recently installed cs6 in my computer which has windows 8 as an os.when i tried to open it it showed me error 16. I found there is no solution to fix this for windows 8.
Ok I had windows 8 on my laptop at one time and i remember having a problem but forget what solved it. I just installed windows 8.1 and got light room installed, photomatix and a few other apps..
but adobe photoshop elements just wont go. my error lead me to a site that said to install adobe application manager . I downloaded ApplicationManager7.0_all.exe and it will not install.. just says installer failed to initialize
I am unable to run install program for realplaver 16. I get the error message "This app can't run on your PC" However the Windows Eight compatible website says that it is!
I'm using Outlook as my mail program on Windows 8.1. I also am starting to use Photoshop Elements 12. In Elements I see a method to make a PDF of photos and email them to contacts.
Is there a way to export the Windows 8.1 Outlook contacts to the Contact list in Elements 12 ? or failing that is there a way to print the contacts so I have a hardcopy reference from which to enter the info into Elements ?
Out of the blue today when I opened PSE 11 and then tried to use it to open a file on my Desktop, it went to sleep. Task Manager showed it "not-responding". Rebooting the computer did not work. After a couple of tries, I waited for 2-3 minutes and it then displayed files on the desktop. I switched the location it was searching, which was Desktop to my photo folder, and everything started working normally. Closed and restarted, and it was fine opening files from my Pictures folder. But, when I switched it to Desktop it went to sleep again for 2-3 minutes. At one point it got a message, which I forget exactly, but basically saying it could not find the file it was searching for??
It seems unique to the Desktop location. The Desktop is part of the operating system (Windows 8.1), and on a SSD. The Pictures folder is on my HDDs. I don't recall making any changes to the setup.
Summary of the symptoms:
1. Only is slow with File, Open, or File, Open As, when the location is the Desktop 2. Operating system (8.1) is on a SSD. Normal file folder is on HDD. 3. Same actions when location is Pictures on HDD is normal. 4. Process Explorer does not seem to detect any activity going on during the "sleeping" mode
I can't find an option to set Adobe Acrobat (either Reader or Pro) "View on top", i.e., keep the Acrobat window visible at all times even when opening other windows (for example if I want to view a PDF while doing something else). Is it possible with Acrobat?
I am having trouble trying to find out how to keep adobe file showing on top of program in use.
As an example, I use an on line portal for my work and when I click on the program button to view an invoice it opens in an adobe file but then stays behind the program screen, I then have to go to the task bar to bring it to the front so it can be printed.
Adobe Fireworks won't start in Windows 8. It worked perfect in Windows 7 but won't anymore. I have tried CS3, CS4 and CS5 (I Dont have CS6) but they all do the same thing... Nothing. I have tried running them in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and XP. Also tried running as administrator but still wont start. Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe Products Work but not Fireworks.
Gateway SX2185-UB37 AMD E1-2500 APU Radeon HD 8240 graphics 500 MB HD 4GB RAM (I upgraded to 8GB after noticing Windows 8.1 was running way too slow on this machine) problem: installing Adobe Acrobat Reader
error: running the installer from go.adobe.com/reader from within firefox or IE
I get error saying "invalid function in Dynamic Link Library C:windowssystem32dxtrans.dl error window appears and continues to appear over and over after pressing OK until you either restart the computer, or somehow close the running task, but I've yet to figure out how to get to the task manager since this WIndows 8 stuff is still very new to me. I keep telling her for now she can download the pdf's and use the built in adobe reader, but apparently she's been having issues with that too lately. I think she wants to be able to read them in her web browser but without being able to install adobe reader she's not able to do that so.
Not sure why, have never experienced this in previous versions of Windows, but I can't seem to get pdf files to open in Firefox.
Using the latest version of firefox, video drivers, and adobe reader.
Got adobe reader installed fine, and adobe flash player installed fine, but still pdf files won't open in firefox.
when I click on a pdf file to open it in the browser, it doesn't do anything, its like the link to the pdf won't open at all. Happens every time.
Only way I can open pdf's on the web is to right click on the pdf link, click on 'save link as' download it to the computer, and open it in adobe reader.
I can do that, problem is this is my wifes computer, and she's not as computer literate as I am, so she has to ask ME to do all that for her whenever she comes across a PDF document on the web, which happens alot with her taking online classes right now. don't want her to have to call me every time she needs to open a pdf document ya know? especially when its something small like a groupon or something she only needs to view once to print the thing...
How can I do that properly? I used the uninstaller from Adobe but the residual files in system32 and in sysWow64 those Flash.ocx files and such, I tried Safe mode and other ways, are they needed to remove in order to have a proper reinstall and how to delete them? Access always denied
It has to do with Shockwave Flash Object, in IE, can I remove this add on to let these files be deletable. I managed to move out the Macromed folder out of system32 but so much for it. in syswow64 cant even move out the folder
I normally only use 2 apps: the Mail and the Video, and even after I close these two apps, when I take a look at the Processes tab in the Task Manager, they are still there, there's no more CPU usage but they keep using Memory, which is usually a lot. So every time I want to actually close an app I have to open up the Task Manager, go to the Process tab and kill them off there, otherwise they'll keep using my memory.
Well, It seems like every few minutes the last metro app I used opens itself and I don't think I'm clicking anything, I even disabled the hot corners with start8.
The skype, weather, bing news, bing health & fitness, bing finance, and, bing food & drink apps are not opening. It will show the 'app start screen' but then immediately close. I've read several things can affect it like antivirus but I have McAfee the day I bought my Lenovo Z510 (almost 2 weeks ago) and all metro apps were working fine. I have my UAC on and already did a "sfc /scannow" in cmd (run as administrator). The last resort would be refresh windows 8.1 but I don't want to.
All of a sudden, whenever I open an app on Windows 8 Start menu (click on a tile), the website and/or program opens the desktop. I lost the ability to view open apps by clicking on the top of the page. The web search toolbar on the bottom of the page has also disappeared. Did I change something I wasn't aware of?
I have installed office 2007 which I purchased with my last laptop and my office 2013 is currently still on its trial period and about a week left (which im not going to purchase it)
I made a word document within word2007 and saved it to my desktop, when I then click on the shortcut icon on my desktop it then opens my document in word2013
so I right clicked on it and changed it to open with word2007, but when I get the message "this app can't run on your pc" and it doesn't open
how can I get this so that it will just open with word2007?
The apps on the start window in windows 8 pro will not open, what can be done to refresh them. I tried the refresh on the system but it would not complete the task.
I've just loaded Adobe Lightroom 5 and when it checks for updates I get a message suggesting either the my web address is wrong, the enternet connection has a problem or their server is down none of the three apply. And Lightroom isn't the only software this is happening to.
So I have this Surface Pro as a loaner from MS to use at my seminars, but the back of it is real hot to the touch, much hotter tan I would think, those of you who have the surface pro do you find it gets real hot?
Basically I had the original "user" in control panel that I used when getting my gateway laptop and I decided to make a new user with admin privileges for no apparent real reason and then I ended up removing the old user account.
Once I did this, a bunch of programs that I installed with my original user account stopped opening, so I uninstalled them and re installed them and they still aren't opening. They just sit in task manager and don't open - is there anything I can do to fix this or is my best bet to reformat [which I could do, but I have a lot of files and I don't have a backup external apart from online which would take a long time to back up with cause of uploading etc].
Also I've attached my system info screenshot as well
My windows apps dont want to open, the store opens shows the brief case logo for a 2-3 seconds and it minimises when i click on it on it to open it again the same thing happens and all other apps dont even respond just their icon move a little on the sides to indicate they are clicked but they don't open at all.
I use windows 8 enterprise and it is activated, it happened before, one way to fix it but its annoying is to create new account and on it they work just fine, but the old one don't.
I can delete and it and recreate it but then i have to register some of my programs again. I read on the internet about that issue so my resolution is not the problem UAC is still on. I use windows defender for antivirus.
I have just enabled the Guest account on my laptop with the idea that it is completely secure from my account but it isn't really working for me. It seems to act as any other account and remembers details of the previous log-on.
Is there some way I can allow a Guest user to access internet, print (and nothing else really but it doesn't matter) and then after they have finished whatever they have done is destroyed so next time there is nothing in downloads, nothing on desktop, no preferences or log-ins saved in browsers etc. Like the temporary profile you get on occasion.
Sometimes when i drag my finger across the touch pad on my hp laptop the screen will get smaller or the the reverse the content on the screen gets real big how do i lock the screen so it does not "zoom in or out" accidentally it must be a win 8 issue like a touch screen issue.
My laptop is defaulting e-mail attachments and most programs to open in windows picture viewer, and if it isn't a picture I am unable to view the file without saving it and selecting 'open with'
How I can just get it to open in the appropriate program first time?
When I open a pdf file, my files are getting opened as a tiff file. This is making it difficult to cut and paste. This started happening to my computer after the Windows 8.1 download. I tried to uninstall 8.1 but created even more problems. Got everything back to normal, but the tiff files opening.
I have been having an issue in Photoshop selecting a printer. I have already gone to Printers and Devices and set my laser printer as the default printer. However, every once in a while, the default goes away in favor of the One Note 2010 printer. I would like to delete the Fax, One Note 2010, and Microsoft XPS Document Writer printers hoping that Photoshop will realize which is my default printer.
I have Acrobat Pro to make Pdf's. I am running Windows 8 Home.
Desperate to avoid using the many quite difficult shutdown options in Windows 8, i tried an old trick i used to do on computers i wanted to shutdown from remote desktop. This Works like a charm i Windows 8 too..
1. Create a file using notepad called something like: Shutdown.js 2. Put this in the file: (new ActiveXObject("Shell.Application")).ShutdownWindows(); 3. Save the file somewhere you like.. 4. Now you can put shortcuts where you want them - and change icons to the nifty shutdown one in system32
This shortcut will bring up the shutdown dialog box, with all functions instead of just closing Windows directly.
Whenever, I try double-clicking an Excel file in Windows Explorer, I get an error message that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program." I tried Microsoft's solution of unchecking the box under options that says "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" but it was already unchecked. I checked it and unchecked it and I'm still having the problem. This is using Excel 2013 with Windows 8.1 64-bit.
I have a lot of excel spreadsheets with embedded links to jpg and pdf documents stored on an NAS. In both Win XP and Win 7 I could set the file association to make them always open in the Win picture preview pane.
In Win 8.1 they will ONLY open in IE11.
I have changed the registry as directed by MS in this article to no avail.
How to configure Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate Office program instead of in Internet Explorer
Locate the subkey for the specific Office document type. The following table lists the subkeys for several common Office document types. Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003 Worksheet Excel.Sheet.8
After you identify the subkey for the specific Officedocument type, follow these steps:
If the Office document is an Microsoft Office Excel document, add the following value for all Microsoft Office Excel subkeys except the Excel.Sheet.5 subkey:
Value name: BrowserFlags Data type: REG_DWORD Value: 8
I do not want to view them in IE which is harder to zoom, and my habits do not change as easily as MS thinks they should.
