View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to uninstall Acronis Disk Director 11 Home but it will not uninstall.
I go to add/remove programs, select it in the list and click uninstall. That window comes up and says please wait while Windows configures etc. etc. then it just disappears and nothing happens. The program doesn't uninstall.
I've never had this problem with any other software before...what gives? How can I get Windows to uninstall it? Should I use something like this? [Solved]Acronis Disk Director 11 Home Build 11.0.2121 Completely Uninstalled or is that spyware/viruses/unnecessary?
Cannot install program even though running as administrator error message keeps on saying I am not running it as administrator but I definitely am.
Have tried compatibility as well as clicking on properties and clicking on run as administrator.
When selecting FILES and OPEN in apps such as ADOBE PHOTOSHOP (and others) all I can see is silly little fake pics instead of the real one. Very maddening and am unable to figure out how to change it in WINDOWS8. Seems to be a default fixed feature but I surely hope not.

When i click the start button and use the apps window(not metro) to launch desktop programs they load extremely slow. The start menu doesn't even close on its own when i click to launch a program either i have to manually close it then a few seconds later the program will launch. When i open the program from explorer it loads instantly but for whatever reason doing anything through the new start menu is extremely slow.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem where any msi (and some .exe's) I have try to run to install a program have trouble accessing the AppData folder.
This is a recent install of Windows 8.1 (on a fresh drive) and then moved the user folder (which I think could be causing the issue). I moved the user folder using these steps User Folders - Change Default Location . I have proper access to the folder and everything. The most recent failure for me was Skype, after trying to launch the app which (seemingly) comes with Windows 8, I decided to install it myself. When I did, that box came up.
TL : DR - Programs will not install and it seems to revolve around my AppData folder.
I just reinstalled my windows 8.1 pro because of usb driver corruption that occurred due to windows update driver update.
So i basically installed all my drivers using DRP(Driver Pack Solution) and all went well.
Then I wanted to install Asus Utilities like EZupdate,Aisuite,usb charger but none of their setup works .
Whenever I click on setup it starts some asus com services but after that nothing happens no setup screen is popping up it just quits.
And I am having problem only installing Asus Software other software are installing fine.
My pc specs are as follows:
1)Intel 4670 K
2)Asus Sabertooth Z87
3)12 GB DDR 3 ram
4)Windows 8.1 Pro X64
I already tried enabling and disabling UAC and smart-screen but that didn't affect the setup.exe.
I tried running all exe as admin that also didn't work.
There is no unblock button for the setup so it should work as normal.
I even re-downloaded the asus tools from their website still the setup wont launch.
I am using Bit-Defender Total security but i even paused protection and tried still the asussetup.exe nothing happens when i click it except starting some Asus service in task manager.
I tried some solution from asus forums running AI suite cleaner in safemode and re-try installation but still nothing happens when i click on asussetup.exe.
Downloaded Office 2010 (had a disc but without driver wouldn't play). Used the key that came with the disc. Downloaded ok. I can find it in the apps, I can even have it open but when I try to open a Word file I receive in an email for example I get the screen that asks me to either buy it or if I already have it, to enter the key. Enter the key and it says it's not valid, but is the key I used to download.

"Can't install the following feature: .NET Framework 3.5
Can't find the specified file. Error: 0x80070002"
The same if i download the dotNetFx35setup.exe setup from Microsoft Website. I tried also in other 2 ways suggested here (Installazione di .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8) :
- In Control Panel -> Programs -> Enable or disable Windows Features -> .NET Framework 3.5 but i receive the same error
- I insert Windows 8 DVD in the D: Unit and i type in the prompt command this code:

But I receive this error:
"Features Activation: 99.8%. Error: 2. Can't find the specified file"
I try to install Windows 8 on my existing Windows 7 installation. I want to install windows 8 on vm ware player for testing and how it works for me. So i tried to install on vmware player but I receive error some thing like 64-bit machine is need to install.
My PC is 64 bit machine and the Windows 7 as well.
I'm using Windows 8.1 x64, and I'm unable to set a task or program at windows startup. I've tried everything:
A. Task Scheduler
B. Shortcut to "Programs/startup"
C. Set the program itself in its options (this method works with some programs, but not everyone, and of course, not every program has an option to start whith Windows)
D. Run as administrator, propieties and give permissions, privileges... etc
Nothing happens. I've checked in the Task Manager tab STARTUP for the programs I set up, and they are all there, in that list. But they never run. What can I do?
In Windows XP it was as easy as add a simple shorcut to the "Progams/Startup" folder. Now it seems to be impossible.
I just tried downloading an exe file to the "Program Files" folder & was not able to in Win 8.1 pro. I get the attached message. I believe I was able to save files in this folder in win 7. I am the admin.

I like the Windows 8 media player except for one thing: It doesn't have a visualizer, which is something I love having on my left or right screen.
Any free visualizer app or media player with visualizer I can install? Been looking every once in a while, but I haven't found any.
What media player can I use on Windows 8, either a freebie or one that I pay for. I used to use Windows Media Player 11 for XP on my desktop (which is now no longer available). I have got my music on my desktop and just want to manage my own music and listen to CD's on my laptop (which has a cd drive). I don't know whether I can use a freebie program or which media player is the most suited.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just enabled the Guest account on my laptop with the idea that it is completely secure from my account but it isn't really working for me. It seems to act as any other account and remembers details of the previous log-on.
Is there some way I can allow a Guest user to access internet, print (and nothing else really but it doesn't matter) and then after they have finished whatever they have done is destroyed so next time there is nothing in downloads, nothing on desktop, no preferences or log-ins saved in browsers etc. Like the temporary profile you get on occasion.
Sometimes when i drag my finger across the touch pad on my hp laptop the screen will get smaller or the the reverse the content on the screen gets real big how do i lock the screen so it does not "zoom in or out" accidentally it must be a win 8 issue like a touch screen issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know what's wrong but every time I try to play a video in the preinstalled video player it crashes. It'll open the video and even play it but between every 8 to 10 minutes it shuts down and brings me back to the start screen and I have to reopen the video and find where I was. I know it's not the video files themselves because it's happening on every video and I can watch the entire video, I just have to reopen it multiple time and find the spot it shut down on. I could use a different program but it's my favorite video player and I'd like to fix it if I could.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDesperate to avoid using the many quite difficult shutdown options in Windows 8, i tried an old trick i used to do on computers i wanted to shutdown from remote desktop. This Works like a charm i Windows 8 too..
1. Create a file using notepad called something like: Shutdown.js
2. Put this in the file: (new ActiveXObject("Shell.Application")).ShutdownWindows();
3. Save the file somewhere you like..
4. Now you can put shortcuts where you want them - and change icons to the nifty shutdown one in system32
This shortcut will bring up the shutdown dialog box, with all functions instead of just closing Windows directly.
My copy of 64-bit Windows 8.1.1 has version 12 of Flash in C...SysWOW64Macromed.
I'm not sure why I have this out-of-date version of Flash on my computer. My copy of IE 11 has an up-to-date version of the Flash plug-in (currently v.14) and my copy of Google Chrome has its own up-to-date Flash player.
I haven't found a way to update the Flash player in C...SysWOW64Macromed, but in any case I don't know why it needs to be there in the first place.
Can I safely uninstall the Flash player in C...SysWOW64Macromed?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that sometimes Windows Media Player doesn't show the track slider. Both tracks are M4A so I don't see a track format being an issue.
And sometimes it does, which is kind of irritating.
I just don't want to use Windows Media player. It is not even there on my pc I guess.
Still, several of my file associations are showing windows media player as associated with it.
When I go to control panel - default program, and untick associations for wmp, then don't stick. unticking them doesn't work, they reappear the next time.
I also have foobar2000, winamp, vlcplayer installed, I have put default for these programs.
However, all the extensions associated with wmp do not appear in the list of extension for these three programs, so I am not able to set them.
I just don't want to use wmp. I want those extensions to remain unassociated with any program, so that when and if I ever player any file with that extension, windows should ask me how to open that, and then I can select .
How to remove wmp associations from all extensions listed there, even without associating it with another program.
Media Player 32bit will prompt a window with "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." and when I click web support, the code in the title is the error. I've installed a codec pack for Media Player and Media Player Plus, these haven't and probably shouldn't cause playback errors. The 64bit Media Player plays back all MP3s so I've resorted to using that currently, but it means I can't play FLAC files etc.
In the SF thread I initially started, with every MP3 that plays on VLC, it won't always state the codec information, and it's not related to which tracks play and don't on the 32bit Media Player. I've also attempted removing ID3 headers to no avail.
