View 9 RepliesLatest Java updates (64bits and 32bits) work for a while then stop with no warning. Be it HTML chat rooms -not loading- or embedded videos or whatever else. That is on ALL browsers not just IE. Opera, Chrome, Firefox....they all stop working.
(on a strange note, trying to play an embedded video in Opera will result in Opera downloading it rather than playing it)
I shut down all anti viruses, turned off the windows firewall. Uninstalled and reinstalled javas. Even went as far as a full system refresh after which Java again worked for a while then stopped again.
I know you can sign off but when someone else gets on your computer emails open up for all to see.Is there any way to set it up so you can only view emails by signing in.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI found out that windows 8 and windows 8.1 weakness is its latency. For me this problem occurred like 2 months ago (before it didn't happened) , and yes I have messed around with the bios before that happened (now its all set to default ).
Currently I am running Windows 8.1 Update 1 (made a clean install yesterday) latest updates and drivers installed (with a program called DriverEasy) , and I am also running all the default settings in bios currently . I noticed the problem , 2 months ago just like I said before , when I was watching a video on youtube . Since that , I just can't watch some videos anymore with the ANNOYING static/crackling sound , its very annoying .And it also seems that it affects CPU performance and fps drops.Like I said before , I installed Windows 8.1 yesterday , so no minor tweaks have been done to the system .
I have already tried :
-"disabledynamictick" command
-Disabling all unused devices in bios
-Disabling EIST and C1E (no improvment at all)
*-Disabling HPET Mode reduces latency , but pc isn't stable.
Here are my computer specs (its a 4 year old and its really , really bad ):
Gigabyte G41MT-S2PT(motherboard)
-Intel Celeron E3400(processor)
-Intel G41 Express Chipset(intergrated graphics card - really bad)
-4Gb 1333Mhz Kingston DDR3 Memory(ram)
-Windows 8.1 Update 1 (latest drivers and updates installed)
Here are the screenshots of DPC Latency Checker and Latencymon :
DPC Latency Checker (2minutes):
There are one or two yellow once a while .The values also slightly raise to yellows when I move the mouse , which I think is normal .
Latencymon (2minutes-both pitcures):
The values were raising and falling
The values were raising until I stopped the checking .
My power plan is set at High Performance (when the powerplan was set to Basic , I was getting red spikes in DPC Latency Checker) , and I am running the stock voltage in bios for the cpu 1.28750V.
I realize this might be a hardware related problem , but I am little bit more sure that this is a Windows 8.1 problem hopefully they will fix it in the Update 2 .
Today I noticed that the sound popped , when I started my computer at the windows logo.
My computer is a ASUS cm6730 desktop PC, 64 bit windows 8.1. I run it to my tv like this:
pc ---HDMI---> xbox one ---HDMI---> lg audio system ---HDMI---> tv
I have my desktop tucked away so i use a wireless keyboard and mouse to control the pc. My problem is 99% of the time while the computer is not being used (fully on but no input) it will completely freeze. The other 1% of the time it will happen while im typing or doing something.
The simple fix I have found is to unplug-replug the wireless keyboard/mouse and boom, instant fix! the problem i have is that the whole point of me having my setup is so i dont have to be right next to the desktop. i thought maybe the problem was the wireless keyboard and mouse but after buying a new one today with built in windows 8 functions, the problem hasnt changed.
One weird thing i noticed is while the computer is frozen if i press ctrl-alt-dlt nothing will happen (surprise surprise its frozen) but the second i do my "quick fix" with the wireless dongle it magically turns back on and the task manager will pop up (so the computer is still getting the keyboard inputs while frozen?)
All drivers are up to date... xbox one is not frozen (i can switch between pc-apps-games no problem, pc stays frozen)... anti virus runs clean... no major system changes sense this started happening a couple days ago. (it froze on me twice writing this message)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 8 and use Yahoo mail. Is there anyway to completely stop all those advertisements from reaching my email address without having to pay for software? I am using Avast, SpyHunter, CCleanner to protect my computer and routinely backing up my hard drive. I see Yahoo Mail offers something to block all their ads, but what a shock, I would have to pay them for a subscription.
View 26 Replies View RelatedI think the first time I've noticed something's up was when updating Flash - it would stop at 99% for a very long time and eventually give an error message saying to check my internet connection or something. Well, but I did look and I'm still online. Then, I was to download some software for my phone - but the download won't complete. Neither in Firefox, nor Opera, nor silly old IE or Chrome. If I tried it in Safari, I bet it also wouldn't work (yes, I have that many browsers installed, just in case). It's just not browser-related.
Disk space? Mate, my computer is 3 TB of memory, no chance. A virus? My anti-virus never failed me, it does a great job at blocking nasties, and I performed TWO full scans, and yet it found nothing suspicious. Is it blocking? Don't think so either, it would say that something was stopped.
I was using my Gmail account with the Windows 8 Mail App and it was all working fine until I updated it through the store yesterday (I haven't updated it before so I don't know what version of the app I am now using). Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.

My parents bought a PC last year running Windows 8. I set up there talktalk E mail accounts in the Windows 8 Native E mail client from the Mail tile at the start screen without any problem. All worked fine until recently when in order to download an app they had to register an Outlook E Mail address. Not sure if they had updates applied as well but they had to start logging on to the PC at boot up every time using a password. In an effort to resolve this they restored the PC to an earlier time which has cured the logging on issue (ie no password required) but when they access the Mail tile from the start screen it is an outlook E Mail account that comes up. I have tried without success logging into this outlook account and then adding the talktalk accounts. I even tried using my own account but could not add that either.
All they want is to click the Mail tile and get there talktalk accounts to come up just as before (no outlook or hotmail or anything else). Is there a way to reset the E Mail client/tile in Windows 8 back to what came with PC so that I could set it up just as I did when the PC was purchased. They are running Windows 8 and do not wish to restore back to factory settings as they have a few other bits and pieces of software installed. If they upgrade to Windows 8.1 will they be forced into using a password to log on every time ?
I cannot remove my Windows Live email account so whenever I want to send email, I had to click on the "Gmail" tab first then compose email and I don't want this because it's somehow not efficient.
I use the default Windows 8.1 Mail client but I never used my Windows Live account.
Is there any ways to remove Windows Live email or at least make Gmail as the default email address on Windows Mail?
I check Reliability Monitor from time to time. I was taken aback today to find Windows Mail creating a critical event and appearing as 'Stopped working' each day for the past six days. There are five listings on day one, five on day two, two on day three, one on day four, two on day five and two on day six. 'Check for a solution' provides no solution. I do have to close and reopen Windows Mail on some occasions when it is stuck at 'Connecting'. The second attempt usually results in Windows Mail receiving mail. That, however, has been a situation that I have lived with for a long time and I am unaware that it caused a critical event in the past. Now, it seems, a critical event is created each time I open Windows Mail. Please move this to 'Performance and Maintenance' if more appropriate.

Please note that "Windows Live Mail" is NOT listed as one of the alternatives. Is there a means whereby I can either add Windows Live Mail to the list or to change what happens when I click on the author's e-mail address so that I am taken to Windows Live mail rather than this list of potential e-mail programs?
1. my win 7 laptop went "poof"
2. got new computer (but they only have windows 8) am using the desktop part of the computer & installed a start menu so it "looked" reasonably like windows 7.
3. installed windows live mail on new computer since windows 8 has a weird email program.
4. had win 7 computer backed up, so had all my windows live emails safely there.
5. copied all the old win 7 emails into the NEW win 8 live email program
6. everything worked great,, could get new emails & all the old ones were there.
7. worked around the NEW live mail, by changing names of folders, deleting some emails etc. so the folder list was NOT the same as when I moved them, ( I have tons of folders under my inbox 13 years of saved emails)
8. looked in windows explorer at the folder where the emails were supposed to be saved.
9. but,,,,,,,,,,,, nothing was changed,,, it still was all the old names etc.
10. for example, I changed a folder name (IN live mail)from dog to cat, & deleted cow.
11. but looking at windows explorer it was still dog & cow was still there.
12. opening live mail,,, it was the changed folders cat.
13. so I do not get it..
14. why didn't the folders in windows explorer CHANGE to reflect all my changes in windows live mail?
15. I need to keep backing up this folder , in case something else goes "poof" To use it for restore.
I have windows 8.1 it was working fine for a good while but now web pages can be slow loading or dont load at all, if i hit F5 some pages will then load.
I have googled this problem & tried many different possible solutions but none have worked, this problem happens at home on my broadband & at work so i dont think its anything to do with the router.
I have ran malwarebytes & avast many times, the 1st run of malwarebytes it found 2 objects but since they have been removed everything has been clear.
I bought a new Windows 8.1 laptop about 2 weeks ago. So far, I like 8.1 and everything had been working OK. I've been using the laptop with my home wifi network, usually with the Firefox browser, for the whole 2 weeks. Yesterday, suddenly Firefox stopped being able to access the internet (error message: "Unable to connect"). Internet Explorer, Skype, and ping access the internet OK, but Firefox, Chrome, and Opera all fail with similar errors. (Needless to say, older devices I use on my network still work fine.)
Some possibly relevant details:
1) I'm running Windows Firewall. I've tried several times to "allow these apps through Windows Firewall" but it doesn't work. (I tried disabling the firewall from Control PanelSystem and SecurityWindows FirewallCustomize Settings, this still doesn't work!!)
2) The day before the problem started, I switched from Norton Internet Security to Windows Defender (this may be because the trial subscription expired -- before that it was very hard to control which was running).
3) Turning off Windows Defender (from Defender's Settings tab) didn't work.
I'm getting pretty desperate to choose my own browser and be able to control my laptop better.
I have two questions on the mail panel in win 8. It is sync with my hotmail. And I look at it occasionally, but preferred going to Outlook to do my email activity. However, I notice the deleted items have reached 137 and do not seem toperform any auto cleanup.
1.Is there a way I can set the deleted items to be erased after Xnumber of days?
2.Can I remove these deleted items as a bulk(more than one)?
How to remove these items is highlighting 1 per item and clicking CAs stated above, I am using Outlook.com as my primary mail activity.the delete option there is working fine. When I first configured my laptop, I sync my old Hotmail with the win 8 mail panel(front screen). It is here where I am having a bulk of deleted mail which Ican only purge manually. When I right click "deleted" name nothing happens. Is there a way to remove these deleted items in hotmail that exist on my front panel screen.
An old Microsoft email account (xxxxxxxx@MSN.COM) from the days before Hotmail when you still could get @msn.com addresses. Account correctly set up in Windows Mail App on Windows 8 machines, no issues. Account has one outlook.com alias.
This was the only email address I have had without two step verification. Last week something happened which made to rethink my complete online / domain / email security. I both changed the password of this @msn.com account to a very complicated one and set up the two step verification using the MS Authenticator App for Windows Phone 8. Tested the set up by logging out and logging back in with the new password and as it should be, outlook.com asked for the authentication code. All was well and working.
Next step was to open Windows Mail App and change the account password there. As expected, the Mail App told me to check settings of this account, clicking the Check Settings link opened the credentials dialog. I entered the xxxxxxxx@msn.com as email address, and the new password. Got an error message telling the credentials were wrong. Logged out, logged back in, tried again, could not get the app to accept credentials.
Signed out from Windows, back in, relaunched the Mail App, removed the xxxxxxxx@msn.com account as nothing I tried with original @msn.com or newer @outlook.com alias did work. From account settings I added a new account, trying both the original @msn.com and the @outlook.com aliases. Wrong credentials tells the app and does not let me add the account. Trying the same credentials on Outlook.com web interface works, no issues in signing in.
Notice that I am absolutely sure that although my new password is really complicated, I have typed it every time right. I have checked it using the View password feature, #1 in below screenshot:
Short version: Can't add an email account to Windows Mail App, credentials 100% sure correct.
Additional issue: This might be impossible to solve: I would like to set my 20 years old original @msn.com address again as the primary alias but apparently it is not possible:
It was the primary alias before the issues told above, has worked as an MS account to be used for instance as the login account for Windows 8.
Is it possible to have multiple outlook accounts come through your mail application on Windows 8.1? I can't seem to make it happen. It will only display the messages from the Microsoft account I am signed into. For example: On my iPhone I have 3 different outlook accounts linked in my mail app to come to my phone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've an issue with my Windows 8.1 Mail app: I've organized in folders almost all of the emails I regularly receive, but I can see notifications only for those miscellaneous emails which are not organized in any of my folder (so, they simply appear in the Inbox). I followed every single tutorial for similar issues, but any of them worked; and yes, I've selected to show notifications for every email in the Account options of the Mail app, but nothing changes.

My email server is POP only. I have been using Thunderbird for email, but it hangs up quite a bit.
My ISP does not offer IMAP, so want to keep my POP email, so have downloaded Windows Essentials/Live Mail. WLM receives ok, but will not send. As far as I can tell, I have the same account properties and settings (ports, checked boxes, login info, etc.) in WLM as I do in Thunderbird. And the settings are actually the same as on my old Vista machine using WLM which sent fine. I get this error screen from WLM when sending an email:
"The connection to the server has failed.
Subject 'Send Test from WLM '
Server: 'smtp.earthlink.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 587
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 10060"
Incoming mail is set to port 110; outgoing mail port is 587. SSL box is checked for SMTP port. My antivirus is native Windows Defender.
Since 48 hours, for all new mails incoming, the hyperlinks (either mail adress or www adresses) won't even be clickable in the mail messages... They show up as normal text, and I have to select, copy and paste them into my browser...
The links are still there fot the less recent mails (those recieved last week)
I really hav'nt changed anything in my settings.. I am syncing a gmail account. The hyperlinks will work in Outlook, and even in my Windows Phone mail app, so I doubt it has anything to do with gmail itself...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am rather enjoying the new Mail feature in 8.1 and it is "mostly" effortless to have all emails collectively in the one app. Problem I am having is I do sometimes need to send an email as an attachment to a web based submission form and it requires of course that I have the file/email saved locally so I can browse to it and attach.
I am completely stymied as to how to do this as there is no way to save locally (other than then the backup path in AppData which the App already does) just certain emails I would prefer to save them as either a .txt or .html or even just a plain old .docx file in My Documents folder, so I can then send it in on in a format preferable by the recipient I am sending to.

And while it makes sense, I still see no way to save a particular email other than as an .eml. Why is there not a simple feature such as save or save as within the Mail App itself?
