Browsers/Mail :: Can't Save Homepage URL
Jun 10, 2014I'm running Win 8.1 with IE 11 and for some reason, my homepage started to show up a about:blank. I go to Internet Options to fix this (MSN.com) and hit Apply. It looks like the change is made, but when I close the Options window and reopen it, the about:blank page shows up again in the homepage URL field. The same problem occurs if I simply close and reopen the browser. Rebooting didn't work and I got an error message that System Restore couldn't do a restore for my last restore point for some reason.
How do get the browser to save my homepage URL? Can I re-install IE 11 if there is no other option?

May 21, 2013My homepage keeps getting reset to a search engine that looks something like dxmi, but might be slightly different than that as its awkward to read. I believe its connected with some company called conduit. I have removed a toolbar from add/remove programs, and have reset IE10 but still it comes back. How can I get rid of it permanently?

Apr 16, 2013I have a Dell Inspiron 660s bought last December. It has Windows 8 64 bit and has Internet Explorer 10.
My issue is the following: The computer works fine, but when I go to my home page MSN from either the desktop or metro screen, it opens the non Windows 8 version of Internet Explorer, not the MSN for Windows 8 version. It has been like this since we purchased in December. It's frustrating because we cannot take advantage of the new IE look.
I have talked with Dell often. I have researched widely but have not found an answer.
I have reset the homepage and several other processes, but none work. All updates are current.
It is possible to insert a URL address different from the Dell default to reach "MSN for Windows 8"? I'm hoping not to have to purge the entire system and begin again.

Jul 27, 2014I have an ASUS G75 - installed a new Samsung SSD to replace a Kingston SSD + clean install W 8.1 (new product key) + updates.
Trying to login to my company email (they use gmail) through secureauth - the username is accepted and this brings up the password box, but when the password is entered, the password box disappears and all I am left with is the username box. Repeating the process gives the same result.
With the W 8.1 on the old SSD, there was no problem.
On a desktop with W 8.1 there is also no problem. The internet options seem the same on both computers.
Everything else works fine, no boot problems etc etc.

Jan 20, 2014I have Windows 8.1 and IE11 always hangs after about 1 hour, all tabs do not respond and the top of the page says Internet Explorer (not Responding).
I can leave it for a couple of hours and nothing happens, when I right click on the IE on the taskbar and select close window an error message comes up that IE is not responding and if I click "close" nothing happens, if I click search for solution and restart, a new IE restarts but the original stays and remains "not responding".
Even Task Manager cannot close it down I have to reboot to get rid of it.
I believe I have the attest version of IE11 (11.01)

Nov 5, 2013My problem is since updating to 8.1, whenever I fire up IE11 on desktop mode a Windows Installer box shows in the middle of the screen saying "preparing to install" and the box continually flashes and the webpage will not load. Why this happens! IE works fine in metro mode and I cannot find any logs in Event Viewer with regards to this problem.

Using MS Defender for AV, and have tried disabling pop up blocker, with no change. I can run the videos with my Win7 laptop which also uses IE11 and Defender. Jul 30, 2014IE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.
However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.
To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.

Always get message...."This page can't bedisplayed", then when I check box to fix connection problem a dialog box displays message, "The remotedevice or resource won't accept the connection... xxx(web site) is not set up to acceptconnections on port 'The World Wide Web Service HTTP'."
There are no problems using IE11or Google Chrome in connecting to any other site(s) or exploring the internet. I do not have any 3rd party antivirus or malware protection. Have tried many different suggestion found in searching the web but no luck yet.

Dec 31, 2013IE opens, but doesn't function properly, won't display web pages and the settings are all greyed out. running 8.1 Pro with Media Center 64 bit. Ran SFC/Scan, but got the error that it found corrupt files but couldn't repair them. Then I couldn't find the file cbs.log to see. I also turned off IE11 rebooted and turned it on then rebooted with the same result. I did have a virus (which I can't remember the name). that is gone but now this.

Oct 26, 2013Since running the update for Windows 8.1 there have been certain websites, like the various search engines, Google, Bing, etc. that cause IE 11 to lock up every time I try to use them with Protected Mode running. When I turn off Protected Mode they work just fine. I don't recall having this problem with IE 10 and I was just wondering if that is normal for IE 11, or if it is a glitch with the web browser itself.
