Browsers/Mail :: Opening Emails With Pictures Gives Sender IP?
Feb 6, 2014
I'm wondering if this is true or not, I use hotmail/outlook email, and alot of spam emails have images, and I've heard a sender can get your ip just by you opening their messages.
I have a question for all the wise ones here, what is the best email program to use besides the windows mail that is installed in windows 8.1 I really do not like it, also how do I disable that program from checking emails.
In the last couple of days the JUNK folder for the Windows 8.1 Mail app has not received any postings. I can see the email in the Junk folder if I use Outlook or my iphone. Unfortunately an important email was sent to the Junk folder and I missed it until I located it using Outlook. I have not changed any settings, as far as I know, prior to this problem starting.
I am rather enjoying the new Mail feature in 8.1 and it is "mostly" effortless to have all emails collectively in the one app. Problem I am having is I do sometimes need to send an email as an attachment to a web based submission form and it requires of course that I have the file/email saved locally so I can browse to it and attach.
I am completely stymied as to how to do this as there is no way to save locally (other than then the backup path in AppData which the App already does) just certain emails I would prefer to save them as either a .txt or .html or even just a plain old .docx file in My Documents folder, so I can then send it in on in a format preferable by the recipient I am sending to.
Mail App - Backup Email Messages in Windows 8
And while it makes sense, I still see no way to save a particular email other than as an .eml. Why is there not a simple feature such as save or save as within the Mail App itself?
I have 8.1 I open Gmail. there I open a PDF doc. Pr a pic. Or a Microsoft word doc. I see the doc. On the bottom of my tablet screen I see the option of open with... or download. and some triangle thing. it offers apps to open with (none ate adobe or Ms word). none are the adobe I have. It wants me to go to the store. when I tap download nothing happens. when I hit the triangle. It wants me to go to the store again.
All of a sudden find cannot print emails in outlook keep getting this message "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later".
Have tried several times but still getting same message, has outlook turned itself off somehow.
I just got my hard drive back. I bought the computer in Sept. and the HD went. So it had to go to California. When I got the computer back the time was California time. I clicked on the time in the right hand corner and changed it to Eastern Standard time. It is still accurate in the right hand corner but people are saying my emails times are all wrong. They are receiving them before I've written them. And... to increase the mystery everyone's emails are coming to me with the wrong times. What could be wrong? Is it possible California time is still active somewhere else on the computer?
I'm using Outlook Mail. I went to my mail on roadrunner and the times are accurate so the problem is somewhere on my computer.
Whenever I try to sync up my AOL account through the Mail app, it says that my email address "is unavailable". I try removing the account and re-adding it, all of my emails get re-synched, and then...nothing. Can't send emails, can't receive new emails. I tried checking and unchecking "sync mail", nada.
For some reason, the Mail app seems to completely ignore emails in any other folder than my Inbox (i.e. the Social and Newsletters folder). It alerts me (although very late) for emails in my Inbox folder but there are no alerts when receiving emails in my Social or Newsletter folders.
Even when opening the Mail app and I see there are 7 new emails in the Social folder and 1 in my Inbox, the live tile only shows there is 1 email.
I have double checked ALL the options in the Mail app and the PC Settings app to make sure alerts should pop up as soon as new email comes in. The option to alert me for any kind of email (not just favorites) is also enabled.
I have reinstalled the Mail app, I have restarted the Windows Firewall service, performed the SFC /scannow command without finding any integrity violations and have run the App Troubleshooter to fix any issues without any result.
I just bought an HP laptop last week and I am trying to learn about the features. I have spent 12 years with my old desktop with MSN as my provider using slow dial up.
I was surprised that my msn e-mail account was able to switch over to my laptop so easily, since Time Warner is my provider on the new laptop.
I can access the e-mails without a problem, but I can neither reply nor send e-mails.
Instead, I always get the pink writing beneath the e-mail address stating that " one or more e-mail addresses does not support this format sample@something.com. Yet all the formats are correct.
What has happened but loads of emails has been sent out to most people on my address book , i clean my puter every time I use it , I have done the scanning and everything ...
I can't access emails of more than a month old in gmail. I created folders for emails that I wanted to keep, but gmail's inbox states to get messages that are more than one month go to settings. I have gone into settings but I can't get access my emails of over a month. I take screenshots of all emails I want to keep and put them in a file and if I don't I can't access them. How I can file keep the emails that I want, as there is no facility for me to save. The contents of gmail's inbox folders are then removed after one month.
I have 20 emails that appear to be stuck in the Outbox which I would like to permanently delete, but thre is no remove or delete Tab or option that I can see.
I have a friend in my contacts list but can receive no emails from him. Gmail is my email provider. It may be something stupidly simple or extremely complex but he is the only one on my contacts I cannot receive anything from?
I'm quitting Time Warner (Roadrunner) and have switched to gmail. I tried Windows Live and Outlook and I can move an important message to a folder but when I go to the folder it's gone! It is imperative that I can save certain important emails.
On that PC, I have been using Office Professional Plus 2010 & Outlook to access my email account (POP)
I just purchased a Windows 8 laptop. Since the Windows 8 Mail app will not work with POP email accounts, my email/internet access provider (Comcast) recommended using Windows Live Mail (I'm using 2012 version). This works fine for new emails. However, I have not been able to find a way to "move" the historical emails from my Outlook 2010 (PC) to WinMailLive (laptop.)
Exporting the emails from Outlook 2010 creates a .PST file which is not recognized by WinMailLive.
I tried using MailStore, but it will only archive email from the Inbox for POP accounts.
Any way to move emails from Outlook 2010 to WNL 2012, that is easier than forwarding all the historical emails to myself from the Outlook PC & then reorganize them in WML on the laptop?
I am still using Outlook Express on a Win XP laptop but I have now bought a new Win 8.1 laptop and installed Outlook 2013 (which is working OK)
I am looking for the most fool proof way of moving literally tens of thousands of emails onto the new machine. This needs to be done with total 100% accuracy because these emails are fundamental to my business and go back to the last century!
Obviously I will keep the old machine just in case ...
In total there is at least 10Gb of data to transfer and about 2,000 email addresses
After upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, Internet pages and emails load slowly. After reporting this to a 2nd level MS Support person, he still hasn't fixed it though he has spent a lot of time on it so far. I finally Googled about the issue and found that many others were having the same problem. I have heard that disabling IPv6 has corrected the problem. I tried it but I couldn't do the last step to create a new DWord. After upgrading, I installed the latest drivers for the motherboard.t's about like the days of dial-up modems! Why can't Microsoft resolve this issue soon? I have checked my Internet connection for "speed" and it's not the problem. The only thing I changed was the OS.
I have Win 8.1 with WLM build 16.4.3508.0205. Before I (upgraded) to Win 8.1, I could send pictures in an e-mail as an attachment. Now when I do that it adds them to an album and the recipients has to down load them from SkyDive. Is there any way to keep the pictures in the e-mail? I don't use SkyDive.
Instead of going into my hotmail.com online account to check my email, I access email via Outlook. I used to have folders full of emails in Outlook; the folders are still there, but none of the emails are in them. If I sign in to my hotmail.com account on line, all of the folders contain the emails. Why the emails no longer show up in the Outlook folders?
Every time I click on a browser it can take anywhere from 5-30 seconds or more to open now. Before you ask my computer is a gaming rig and has WELL beyond any normal hardware. When I click the browser icons on the task bar they light up like they normally do when they open. But after a few seconds they slowly fade away like they were closed.
But then after a sporadic number of seconds they open. No other program on my PC does. My PC boots pretty damn fast and everything else opens smooth as butter.I defrag and optimize it once a week and I clean it daily.
1) Why the resolution is so bad.
2) Not sure why there is a censor bar the first few seconds.
Disregard the Photos & SkyDrive apps, (Picture files). I select Pictures in File Explorer on the Desktop. I select a photo, right click it & choose: 'Send to'>'Mail recipient', an 'Attach files' dialog box opens, I choose the picture size I want & click 'Attach', another box opens captioned 'Email Client selection', I select 'Use System Default'>OK. Mail opens up.
The heading of the email folder reads: Emailing: (Caption/Title of the photo) in blue colouring. No copy of picture selected. I send it to myself. It comes back in the 'Inbox' with the same sentence in blue, (but still no picture). I try to click on the blue caption. Nothing. I highlight it, it only gives me the privilege of Copying the caption. How do I send a photo from Pictures in the File Explorer?
We bought a new computer for my granddaughter. Since non had Windows 7 on it, (which I know how to use). We had to buy one with Windows 8. Learning to find out how to remove All the ads and non needed programs has been an ongoing challenge. Right now she only wants to go to very few sites. but Ads along with false java download keep poping up on her browser even thou I tryed hunting down anything that might call them up
She has Mccaffee virus scan and regitpro (I think its called that , she is using pc at thistime so I cant check.)
Is there a way to block a url? These popups do not show up on my computer when I go to the same page as she is on. ITs like an online ad program it adds more ads to websites you visit that are not on the actual website.
I downloaded the latest Internet Explorer and now everything on the Start screen is opening on the desktop. How do I get them back to the Start screen?
Getting to grips with windows 8.1 on a new laptop having been used to XP Pro and Outlook Express
Anyway, I have a real bugbear with the mail app. e.g. I receive an email with an attachment, I click on attachment to open it, it opens in desktop (why?), once attachment has been read/filed or whatever and I close/delete it I'm stranded on the desktop (again why?), I then have to go through several button pushes (start/Mail app/mail account/open email) just to get back to where I was when I opened the email originally.
Surely there must be a simpler solution, am I missing something, is there a way to set it up so that when the attachment is closed it takes you straight back to where you were in the mail app?
Or is this just one of those Windows8 'quirks'......
After upgrading to Windows 8, the I.E. went to hiding, so I retrieved and pin it to task bar. Now, after I open it, it closes right away when I try to go onto a bookmark. The error message says "Internet explorer has stopped working" A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".
