Apps / Software :: Project Does Not Work For Windows 8.1 X64
Jun 14, 2014
I want to change the lock screen image programmatically for Windows 8.1 and built the win32 project using the API 'SetLockScreenFromFile', it works well for Windows 8.1 x86, but it seem not work for my Windows 8.1 x64, even i can see the lock screen image has been changed in PC Settings.
So the initial user is the one you are forced to create when first setting up Windows 8.1. It's a local user meaning that I set it up without signing into a MSA.
In both the Administrator and the initial user, all the WinRT apps/tiles work. Like the weather will show up and everything.
Whether I change the Initial User to Standard or Administrator, everything still works fine. Of course, the Administrator can't open WinRT apps which is standard and normal. And the initial user can't use apps without signing into MSA. But it all still works perfectly fine.
The problem is with the new user. The new user is meant to be in Administrator mode because it's my main account. But whether I set it up as Standard or Administrator, it's the same thing. None of my WinRT apps work.
Even when I sign into my MSA with the new user, it's still the same thing. It synchronizes to my OneDrive online. It recognizes that I'm completely signed in online. Yet it's still the exact same thing with the WinRT apps. None of them work. Even when I try to open up the Windows Store. It just continues to try to open, but doesn't go all the way through. So whether I'm signed into my MSA for the third user or not, it still gives the same problem.
I ran Windows Update, and it worked perfectly. Everything is up to date.
Three days ago I updated my laptop to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. After doing so my laptop began to have the black screen issue which I resolved by following the steps from this page:
Step By Step How to Solve Windows 8.1 and 8 Black Screen Issue upon boot | Virtualization blog <form action='/search' id='searchThis' method='get' style='display: inline;'><input id='searchBox' name='q' onblur='if(this.value==''this.value=th
Now I am unable to project to a second screen. My set up is two monitors connected to my laptop (One from a directly connected HDMI cable and the other by an HDMI cable, connected to a utility bar, connected to my laptop by usb). I have already updated my graphics driver to the latest edition and still get the message "Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
I've had windows 8 for a bit, but since I've installed the OS not a single one of my windows apps will work. I've tried a lot of options and none fix it. I will open up a app ( windows store app or PC settings for example) and it will open and display the icon and blown up screen then immediately minimizes and will not allow me to maximize it. I'm so tired of it! I can't download any new apps or update my old ones let alone use any of them. I ran a basic trouble shoot through Microsoft and it came up at one point saying I need a Microsoft account. which is crazy because I've put in my CD key like 50 times and registered it when I put the OS on this computer . Windows 8.1
It's been at-least 5 months sense I've got my computer, never once have i used the app store! Every app that connects to the internet doesn't work! I've tried waiting forever, I can't even create another profile all i have is administrator.
,Im running Windows 8.1 Pro and everything app related ran fine.Weather, news etc. got it all configured and setup nicely on my home screen.I dont remember to have done anything substantial to my files, but one day i had to look at this screen:
The apps dont work anymore, opening one of them just shows a blank screen.uninstalling an app works, but while reinstalling i get the error code 0x80070490 and cant reinstall, weather app in this example.Other apps except the default microsoft shipped ones, seem to behave fine.I did wsreset and downloaded that app fix tool, nothing changed.
I have two, probably connected, issues with my new Windows 8.1-running laptop.
Recently, and very suddenly, all Windows 8 metro apps have stopped working.
A typical experience: Swipe for charms bar > Settings > Change PC settings .... This then takes me to the metro start screen. If I press the windows key, it shows me the settings icon in full screen for a few seconds then takes me back to the start screen. This happens for every app!
(I have followed this, but to no avail: Can't access "Change PC Settings" in Win 8 - Microsoft Community.)
Also, I have been getting the 'No apps are installed to open this kind of link' error message when opening a magnet link in uTorrent and selecting to download a program from the BBC iPlayer website, using the previously installed BBC iPlayer Downloads program for windows.
I have reinstalled both programs, restarted multiple times and used CC Cleaner to try repair any possible damage to the registry, but all this has had no effect. I have tried to open both magnet links and iPlayer downloads using Internet Explorer instead, but this hasn't done anything either.
Other Relevant Info:
I have recently tried Iobit's Advanced System Care (or, ASC) programs, but I uninstalled them all because I suspected they were causing at least some of the issues. As far as I know, the internet link problem (#2) started first. In the past, I have had to reinstall the BBC iPlayer Downloads program because it would lose saved programs and stop working because (I think) ASC deleted some of its temporary files.
Edit: Also, the problems seem to coincide with the recent 8.1 update... but that isn't necessarily relevant.
when I used one of my Metro App(Asphalt 8), The game showed the Gameloft logo but right after that it crashed.
Then I used another app which was Weather.. but it worked fine.. Again I tested Facebook app and it also crashed...
So then I downloaded one app (Flappy Birds Free) and it also crashed.. So I think that the downloaded apps are getting crashed.. I tried several fixes like using another user, turning off Windows Defender and Firewall, Clean booting, Updating Video drivers, scanning for viruses, using Metro apps troubleshooter, sfc /scannow, and all sorts of things.. There is only one more option left and that is to refresh Windows. But I don't have 8 CD. It got broken.. and I can't afford to buy a new one.. What should I do now?
My problem is when I launch some apps e.g. Mail, I can't synchronize it. Or when I launch the Bing Weather app I can't click anything. It worked everything a couple of weeks, but I have this problem a couple of days now. It happend earlier, but then it worked a couple of days, but now it's not working again.
it installs without a hitch, comes up, runs fine ... just don't try running any Metro apps because most of them won't work - the screen resolution I have is something like 1024 x 600 (fine for this device) but that's too small for most apps. The desktop is fine but virtually nothing else can be run outside that.
I like my little netbook but Windows 8 doesn't. I made an image of that drive becuase I'll be restoring that soon.
Sometimes when I'm in metro, when I hit a panel nothing happens. It looks like something to do with alt tabbing, also sometimes when im in a app, i can't hit windows key to get out of it.
I want to upgrate my OS recently, but there are many software prorgams on my PC. I just afraid that they can't work under Windows 8. Have you used EfficientPIM before? Is it running under Win 8?
Using ASUS AI Suite in WINDOWS 8 and know if it works.Repeated searches on internet and ASUS forums are not looking good for this software to work .ASUS tells me the newest one should work, but did not seem positive, then after seeing some comments on internet about crashes of PC. I'd Like to use this rogram in Windows 8.On there support sites i am able to get most updated version, says for Windows 8,Win7,Vista and XP.
I need my Movie Make to work. It worked just fine when I had Windows 7, but now (As a Windows 8 user) when I try to save anything the system says it is trying to repair the problem and then kicks me out.
I only really use Movie maker for the trim tool and a few other features, as it is so easy to use. However, I have an enormous file that will not compress any further. I need to trim it in order to send it but Movie Maker will not allow me to.
How do I fix this? Is there another option? Why is Movie Maker not compatible with 8?
I had problems with 8.1 and my favorite game The Secret World. I rolled back to Win 8 64bit
I have 2 games that need net frame 1.1 to run -Sid Meiers Pirates -Dungeons & Dragons Online both of which are kinda old favorites of mine.
I absolutely do not want to gum anything up that might affect the running of The Secret World, but I'd really love to run the other two games as well. Is it best i just forget about them *sniffle* or is it safe to manually install 1.1?
I went to them to purchase yet another updated copy, but refuse to lease the software for an annual fee, which appears to be their new business model. ("N, O, nu-uh".)
Yes compression comes native with Windows, but I'd like to password protect backups and such, and find it handy to have it in the menu when I right-click on a file(s). Is there a standout alternative for the 64bit Win 8.1 environment? I've heard of 7-Zip, but know nothing about the various competing apps.

So recently I downloaded windows 8.1 onto my Asus laptop and my apps on the start menu will not work. whenever I click on them the apps blink or flash and don't open, I try clicking on them again but same thing happens the screen will blink them disappear again.
Whenever OneDrive tries to automatically sync its files (or manually too), there's a pop-up on the desktop saying: OneDrive Sync Engine Host - OneDrive Sync Engine Host has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.
I have googled it a lot and tried the CMD command posted as a solution, but it didn't work unfortunately.
maybe fully reinstall OneDrive as it is a standard feature of Windows 8.1 Pro...
i was recently trying to install Microsoft visual studio on my windows 8.1 laptop (dell latitude d620) and for the life of me, i couldn't get it to work. first, i tried to install visual studio c++ express 2010, and it crashed every time i tried to open it (after installing). then, i tried 2012, because i thought it was a prob with OS compatibility. this time, i couldn't even install it before i got an error message saying there was a problem and it closed. after trying to get it to work for some time, i tried the 2013 version. this time, i got farther than i did with 2012, but not as far as 2010 (i didn't install). i would really like for this to work because i just bought a course on Udemy for $10, and i don't want to waste the money. however, if i cant get it to work, i suppose i could put it on my windows 7 desktop.
Windows store apps don't work after a restart and shutdown. surface pro 1.
I have tried ms fixit file which said display driver might be out of date but couldn't fix it, device manager says display driver is uptodate and offers no way to rollback either.
Uninstalled the apps but windows store also doesn't work so I cant redownload them.
After updating to Win 8.1 RTM the Store App doesn't work anymore. Everything else runs fine. After opening the Store App it takes only one or two seconds and the screen get's back to where it was before. The app is still opened, but does the same as soon as it's activated again. Is there a way to reinstall the Store App?
Lately, my metro apps (except Store) have not been able to connect to the internet. However, today I discovered that when I connect to a VPN or set my network to public, I can freely use Netflix or whichever network-dependent app I want. Why this happens? Also, what do I lose when my network is set to public?
I'm not exactly sure when this problem cropped up since I don't use it often, but when I type "cmd" in Modern UI and right-click on the program, choose Run as administrator, I'm dropped to the desktop and nothing happens. This also happens if I list programs installed through the Modern UI and right-click on Command Prompt.
However, if I go to windows/system32 and right click CMD and choose Run as administrator in Desktop mode it works fine. I also installed Stardock's Start8 to return the classic start menu and when I type cmd there and choose Run as admin it works fine, or if I right-click the Start button and choose Run cmd as admin (not exact wording) it works fine. The Run as admin problem only seems to affect the Modern UI mode.
How this can be fixed? It's not that there aren't workarounds, it's just I prefer things to work as they're suppose to. I've checked my user credentials as well as the UAC settings and everything looks fine. How to fix this short of "re-install Windows".
I have a problem whit my new computer on windows 8. Today I turned on the computer, I login, but then, the start menu app's doesn't work anymore! When I wan't to open skype it doesn't work, when I click on desktop it doesn't open.. I need to click on the windows button every time.
I clicked on the windows button, then the app to go to the desktop was clickable, when I was on the desktop, the start menu doesn't appear if I go whit my mouse left under. If I go whit my mouse right, that menu also doesn't appear. Also some programs doesn't open anymore automatically..
The button for the music also doesn't work, I can't turn of the music etc..
I have just refreshed my pc because I was having numerous problems with it and it turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. However, now I am having software issues. Whenever I try to make a call on the desktop version of skype, the program crashes. Whenever I try to open HP support assistant, the program crashes. When i am using the metro app version of skype I get a weird artifacting type problem on any of the buttons. I have this same problem in internet explorer and on Netflix. Netflix will not play on Chrome. It will play on IE, but with the button artifacting problems. My computer will not pair via bluetooth with my phone.
I hate it when I double click a file and Windows 8.1 pops up a message saying I have other apps that can handle this extension.
I disabled this notification through GPEDIT.MSC, it works now when I open pics/docs/etc.... but let's say I install another app, for example, when I install Pale Moon Browser,
I hate Windows 8 so much! Even with a start menu replacement, this ticks me off, it's crappy Wireless LAN manager sucks, its performance is less when I benchmarks my SSD
I can go back to 7, but I am trying to fix a few things if I could just to benefit from the UEFI boot mode as for installing 7, I have to enable legacy ROM which is much slower during boot.
After doing the security update for windows 8.1 my pc seems to have gone haywire. None of my apps will open or work, I'm locked onto a local account and not my linked account, only google chrome and steam will open.
This problem happened before so I finally broke down and restored all the way back to windows 8.
My problem is ever since I installed windows 8.1 upgrade my desktop short cuts no longer work. Not even the ones under the new start button. I have to manually go into the programs folder, find the program I want to use and launch it from there. Every time I attempt to launch it through the start button or the desk top my win zip program pops up like it wants to unzip it. It never did this until I I upgraded to 8.1 I wished now I would of made a restore point before upgrading so I could get rid of this god awful 8.1. It has my PC totally messed up in trying to launch programs now.
Also, I suspect the new skydrive has something to do with it since the skydrive folder opens after the win zip program pop's up. I never used skydrive before and to be honest I really don't like it nor do I want it. I feel like it got shoved onto me.
The images shows what happens when I try to access something from the new start button, but I get the same problem if I have a desk top short cut. Surprizingly the control pannel and windows defender still works on the desk top, it's the only thing that does.
Windows operating system, namely Windows 8, in which you cannot force quit programs but must restart the PC to stop a program. Often, this results in a user retsrating his garbage PC over 5 times a day.
Running Windows 8.1. Have admittedly modified it quite heavily but what I have screwed up.
Pretty much, any apps which have the purple wheel splash screen do not load (presumably crash). Normal windows settings work fine. Windows applications and Metro apps works with no hitches (I have none downloaded but default Music, Games all start with no issues).
