View 3 RepliesWindows 8.1 32bit OS. My audio/video editing needs are relatively simple, yet I only seem to find programs which are insultingly simplistic and don't offer the functions I need; needlessly overly complicated, or they do not work just right and are literally frustrating to use.
I am in need of a video editing software. It has to not have the 4 main problems that I keep running into, which all of the ones I've tried have to some degree.
1. Output file sizes:
If I import a video which is 87mb, my output options shouldn't all be several hundred mb's or a few gb's. Why can't these programs just import and output files which are like-for-like? If I'm cutting parts out of the video, then the resulting file should be just under 87mb. If I'm joining two equal sized videos together on a timeline, then the resulting file should be 174mb (the total of the two 87mb source files).
2. Output video resolution:
If my input/source file fills the entire screen when played in full screen, then I don't want my edited file to fill-up a much smaller area in the center of the screen with large black borders around it, and sometimes the loss of visual quality is huge. Again why can't they just do like-for-like? Windows Movie Maker is a swine for doing this.
3. Quick seeking on the timeline, ability to 'cut'/'split' video into pieces easily:
Some programs are hard to quickly move through the timeline as the movie is playing in the preview area (I believe this is called seeking, I may be wrong). This can be usefull if you're trying to find a specific point in the video without blindly clicking the timeline at random. Sony Vegas 9's always gives me issues when trying to do this, by not allowing me to seek properly, or jumping my arrow to the start/end of a clip and I have to start seeking all over again.
Only the old Windows Movie Maker had 'cutting' correctly in my opinion, as it was an easy button to press on the preview window, instead of having to right-click the timeline at just the right spot, or go into the File,Edit,View menus every time you want to cut a part of the video.
4. Ability to separate audio track and manipulate it:
I have a downloaded video, and something is seriously wrong with the audio. Not only is it out of sync with the video (which in itself I could probably fix with some faffing around), but it's also decreased in speed. Media Player Classic lets me increase the speed again, but there is no way to save the audio track as such, and I haven't found any other audio/video editing software that would let me increase the speed of the audio.
I bet some users use there Windows 8 tablet for video editing like for Youtube(VlogsGaming channel, etc) with something like Movie Maker.
Using Windows 8 tablet to do video editing? and what video editor do you use on your Windows 8 tablet?
I use my 11.6 inch Acer Iconia W700(I5 core) to edit my videos with Movie Maker and upload my videos to Youtube.
Can a Windows 8 tablet with a Atom CPU like the Dell Venue Pro (8, 11)/ Lenovo Mixx 2 (8, 10) can handle tasks like video editing?
I've been having this issue with my PC for the last 6 months or so. I attributed it to an aging graphics card but had a rude awaking when I purchased and installed a new GPU yesterday and the problem still persisted.
The issue didn't bother me too much as I don't game too often but I just bought a new R9 280x card and was hoping to catch up on some games I've missed.
The issue that I get is when gaming (and using Video Editing software - PC BSOD's when rendering a video from After Effects CC for example) is that after about 20 - 25 min of running the game the PC will just crash and I'll get a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and the PC will restart. This happens every time regardless of the game played or settings.
My PC temps are pretty normal even under stress.. max the CPU goes to is around 68 and the GPU around the same.
My PC SPecs are:
Windows 8.1 x64
Intel i7-930 2.8GHz
AMD Radeon R9 280x
16GB RAM
128GB Samsung SSD
2TB HDD
Things I've tried:
- Reinstall Windows
- Use only the SSD
- Use only the HDD (Bought new HDD)
- Switch out the RAM Sticks w/ New Ones
- Run MemTest and other software (everything came back clean)
- Yesterday I installed the new GPU, Reinstalled Windows, Updated all Drives and Windows Updates and the issue is still present.
So since upgrading to 8.1, I've been getting messages out the ass about compatibility. One of them is this:
Naturally I know some stuff is gonna have to run in that mode until 8.1's been out for a while, but can I disable this from popping up somehow?
I've installed Quicken 2004 on Windows 8.1 in compatibility mode for Windows XP 3 to run as administrator. Everything seems to work well. All my data appears to have been restored including Home Inventory. I can download bank data.
Automatic backup works. I tested this by changing the system date to trigger the backup.
The infuriating thing is I cannot do a manual backup from the file menu. The dialogue box opens. I can complete the relevant fields but when I click OK the program freezes. There are no error messages.
Not sure if this is a Windows issue e.g. permissions or Quicken issue e.g looking for a file that doesn't exist. I have checked the 'Ready for archive' box of the folders, sub-folders, and files property boxes.
Are there any settings in Win 8.1 that I need to change to allow a program to write to a drive when it is running in compatibility mode for Windows XP 3 as administrator?
In windows 8.1, I installed the Lenovo Power Manager which is not yet available for this system, and I did it running it in compatibility mode, as described in the next link
Lenovo forums : Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 8 - Page 3 - Lenovo Community
and it got installed correctly, and seemed to work asking for a reboot that I did
The problem: I run into a BSOD and I believe it is due to this software (safe mode works ok)
So, as I try to unistall, and the uninstaller is called from "ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS", all I get is again the message: "Warning : Cannot run on this system"
And of course, here there is not compatibility mode wizard .. How can I complete uninstall and clear this?
I am trying to change the compatibility to run on an earlier version of windows for an exe file, but when I go to the compatibility tab, theres no bar to change the compatibility.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue running a program that is contained in a self extracting zip that is supposed to run automatically.
The SFX files unzips the contents to a folder on my hard disk (no problem), but then tries to run another program (installer.exe) that is located in the extracted folder.
The program fromm inside the SFX runs fine if I set the compatibility to XP manually, but the problem is that the the SFX extracts the files to a different location each time it is run.
Is there a global way to make a program (installer.exe) run in compatibility mode wherever it exists?
I normally only use 2 apps: the Mail and the Video, and even after I close these two apps, when I take a look at the Processes tab in the Task Manager, they are still there, there's no more CPU usage but they keep using Memory, which is usually a lot. So every time I want to actually close an app I have to open up the Task Manager, go to the Process tab and kill them off there, otherwise they'll keep using my memory.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having sign in problems with the Windows 8 Games, Music, and Video Apps. This have been happening ever since I started using Windows 8. I have tried reinstalling Windows many time, and also tried it on Windows 8.1, none of them allowed me to sign in.
Here are the screenshots:
Games App - Nothing happens when I click Try Again on the top right corner.
Music and Video App - This message shows when I click Can't Sign In Try Again.

I have a Windows 8 Pro ISO file, and I want to convert it to a Windows 8 Core ISO file. Is that possible editing some files or something like that? It is difficult to find Windows 8 Core files for download, so I downloaded a Windows 8 Pro one, can I edit it to convert it to a Windows 8 Core?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several webpages that I created in Windows XP using Notepad with simple html coding. When I open one of these files under Documents in Windows XP, it is shown exactly as it appears on the Web. In order to edit the coding, I click on "View" and then "Source" and the html coding appears.
I've transferred these files to my new computer with Windows 8, but there's no way to view the coding and edit. I right-clicked on a file and the dialogue box that appears includes "edit." But when I click on "edit," I get the message "There is no program associated with this file to perform this activity." Well, the "program" that I used to create the file was Notepad. Is there no Notepad in Windows 8, and if there is, is it incompatible with Windows XP Notepad?
Is there no way to edit html in Windows 8 without finding some editing program to download or purchase? (I gather from "Windows 8 for Dummies" that there isn't, since "html" is not even in the index.)
So i was editing the registry to try to fix all of my downloads going to my ssd instead of my hdd and now to cant download anything because it says path not specified and i cannot open certain programs (even the registry itself!) I cannot find anything on how to fix it!

On my old desktop the files can be opened in Word for editing with no problem but on the newer laptop my files will not open in Word for editing, only in Word Online. Editing this way messes up the formatting.

When I try and watch videos that are under tiles in start screen, I get audeo but no video. If I open the video from browser, Chrome, it plays OK. How do I fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what's wrong but every time I try to play a video in the preinstalled video player it crashes. It'll open the video and even play it but between every 8 to 10 minutes it shuts down and brings me back to the start screen and I have to reopen the video and find where I was. I know it's not the video files themselves because it's happening on every video and I can watch the entire video, I just have to reopen it multiple time and find the spot it shut down on. I could use a different program but it's my favorite video player and I'd like to fix it if I could.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an extensive video library which I am trying to put onto my computer. I am running windows 8. I have tried lots of programs and nearly all of them fail to produce good quality on the computer. All of them seem to break up and pixelate. I can remove some of the "VOB" files to the computer from the disc but these will not play even on VLC. There are some I want to convert to play on the Galaxy Tab2. I know windows 8 does not have a program to play DVD but I have put VLC in and that plays them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSKYPE needs an ID (usually a Microsoft ID). Now is there anyway I can test a connection from My computer to phone or the reverse. AS I have only a single Microsoft ID I can't test this. I don't want to wait until I'm over at someone else's house to set this up. Is there a way you can test a SKYPE video call between your own laptop and your mobile. I just want to see if the video works both way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dell venue pro. I rented a movie on the pre-installed video app (xbox). I opted to download the movie so I can watch it remotely. I got a download error because of low disc space. The c drive is low on memory but I have a completely empty microsd card with more then enough room for the movie. How can I make the app download onto the msd card instead of the main drive? The app itself has no such option in the settings. I've tried to change the pathway but the app still seems to want to download the the c drive first.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my old Win 7 and Win Vista and Win XP laptops I've had no problems opening and viewing my old MPEG-2 video files. My new laptop running Win 8.1 will not allow me to view them.
Windows Media Player will only recognize them as audio files - not video - though the sound will play. Real Player is the same - the application will open and begin playing a file but only as audio file. I've tried the built in Toshiba media player and it shows errors and won't open the files at all.
Again - these are conforming MPEG-2 NTSC 760X480 video file (old analog home movies) captured using an ATI video card dongle to connect to my video source and an old version of capture application ULead Video Studio. These files conform in every way to MPEG-2 standard/format and will run on all of our PC EXCEPT the new one running Win 8.
I bought and loaded a video editing application from Corel and it will open and play these files perfectly so why won't Win Media Player and Real Player recognize them when running behind Windows 8?
Clean install, right from the beginning I see on a daily basis errors stating something like the zune music and video apps cannot be updated, it won't update from store either, I'm just guessing where this isn't released to the public yet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new video card, namely the Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X to replace my old (broken) video card, namely the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 Boost.
The problem is that I get no video signal when linking my new video card. The vga-led on motherboard turns on red (normally never) .
I thought my motherboard is broken, but then I tried the video card (Radeon HD 6950) from my brother and he just shows video signal. (vga-led turns not on red this time on motherboard) .
I would also say that on the box of my new video card is a 750 watt power supply recommended, but I only have a 600 watt power supply build in my pc.
For sometime now, can't say exactly when it started, all Flash videos have a strange startup delay. Videos buffer fast, no complaints, audio starts immediately but the video hangs there up to 7 - 8 seconds showing the first frame and then after this delay, jumps forward to catch the audio and finally plays normally.
I have difficulties to describe this, lets try with other words: I start for example a YouTube video. Audio of the video starts immediately, totally normally, but for the first 7 or 8 seconds the video only shows a still image of the first frame, totally frozen, then jumps to same time spot where audio currently is going and from that point I can watch videos normally. I lose nothing of the audio but visually I am not able to see those first seconds of the video.
When finally both audio and video streams are normal and running, if I switch to / from full screen, the same happens again although the video is frozen only 2 to 4 seconds (audio runs normally), delay being not as long as when video is started.
I have latest Flash installed, the laptop in question is the one told in my system specs. The issue is only when streaming Flash videos; disabling Flash for instance in IE11 and using HTML5 player instead, all videos (even YouTube) work as they should, both audio and video starting immediately.
According to this link my old Asus P5K-E Wifi Delux board should be compatible:
Windows 8 compatibility for ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP AiLifestyle Series ATX - iP35 Motherboard model P5K DELUXE WIFI-AP
However the Asus download site for this board does not list Win 8 as compatible OS - only up to Win 7.
I am thinking of upgrading but don't want to rebuild my PC to do this.
I am currently running a pc with Windows 8 Pro activated by KMSPico. Will/should the Win 8.1 update install/work ok on my system when it becomes available?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Sapphire AMD HD 7870 just bit the dust so it has been sent back with an RMA. I had hoped to replace it with an ASUS AMD HD 3850 but Windows 8.1 will not work with it. There is an error message on a blue screen something about a header (I don't have the exact error message today).
I suspected it was a driver problem so uninstalled the existing driver and tried to install the latest AMD one. I can uninstall OK but as soon as I reboot the Microsoft driver installs itself giving me no opportunity to install the AMD one.
I'm in need of installing IntelliType 6.x to be able to use all functions of my Microsoft Office Keyboard, but the Program Compatibility Assistant doesn't let me, even though I've correctly set the policy rules (as described here) and even turned off the Diagnostic Policy Service.
The only options I have is "get help online", which tells me that I should download the latest version, and "close" which doesn't run the installer at all.
I understand the program might not work, but Microsoft should at least allow people to bypass their "Let Microsoft decide for you" BS (which I've met like six billion times by now) and let the idiots (i.e. me) take the risk of ruining their computer if they want to.
