View 7 RepliesIt is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group? Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?

Can I install apps with a local account? and how can i understand if I have a local account or microsoft account.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use skydrive on two different computers, but when I made them both with the same MS account they synced stuff to each other, which I do not want.
I made a local account on one computer, but if I want to access Skydrive, it changes that account, back to the main account.
Is there a way to access the same Skydrive account through the app without making them the same user account?
Or is there a way to unsync different computers?
I accidentally changed my admin account into local account now i can't install apps and do anything with it. Whenever I try to install some apps it always say.. type an administrators password but then I don't know how to. All I remember was that before i change my account into standard account.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus desktop computer and an Asus notebook computer both running Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit) and a Dell notebook computer running Windows XP Pro (32-bit) with disk drives and user accounts configured the same way on all machines. My account is a member of the Administrators Group. On each PC I created data folders for each user account on a large hard disk (D). For each folder I set Modify permissions for the user account and Full permissions for the Administrators Group using the process shown in your "Option 3 - Advanced Security Properties".
The file system correctly allows access to each data folder to the user account which has permission and blocks access to all other standard user accounts. The Windows 8.1 file system does not allow my account to access any of the folders belonging to other users on either Asus PC, whereas the Dell PC had and still has no problem allowing my account to access all shares on it.
The only way I could get access to any shared folders on another Windows 8.1 PC was to make the following settings in "Control Panel | Network and Sharing Center | Advanced sharing settings":
- Private automatic network discovery: On.
- Private File & printer sharing: On.
- Private HomeGroup connections: Use user accounts & passwords...
- Guest network discovery: Off.
- Guest file & printer sharing: On.
- All networks public folder sharing: On.
- All networks media streaming: All networks - allowed; All libraries or folders except "Documents" - shared.
- All networks file sharing connections: Use 128-bit encryption...
- Password protected sharing: Off.
Is there any way to allow a member of the Administrators Group on the Windows 8.1 Pro computers to access all shared folders on the network as was allowed by Windows XP Pro?
I somehow can't acces the standard Windows 8 apps anymore.
Apps like Camera, Maps, News, World clock. I can acces the App Store however...
Few days ago I made a account to test something and I noticed the apps were just running as they should be.
So I think I somehow changed a setting on my normal account that I can't use these apps anymore.
Ever since this new update with 8.1 I can't install any new apps... I first noticed when my Mail app stopped working and froze my computer. So I uninstalled the app and when I tried to install it back I get the screenshot below.. So I tried Yahoo Mail, some games, some other apps.. Nothing will work. Mail finally said it installed, but it's not on my computer and the app store says it's already installed. I have my own custom built computer, if you need the specs look under the specs drop-down, it's all there...

I Googled it and tried to reset Windows Store cache by wsreset.exe but it didn't work. It occurs to every app I try to install.
I can't update of find any apps in windows store. The store broker, wshost.exe, is taking around 30% cpu usage and will increase easily to 80%.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried today for the first time to update my apps in Windows Store. But with no success at all. Every single one came out with an error: "Windows firewall service is not running"
No, it is not running, because I have Kaspersky Internet Security installed. So what now? Do I have to deactivate Kaspersky and activate Windows firewall just to update my apps? What do I then do when Windows 8.1 becomes available in Windows Store in a few days?
Whenever I open a Metro app like Weather, even after closing it using the red cross in the upper right corner (feature added in 8.1 Update), the app will keep running in the background forcing me to end it with Task Manager. Is this normal?

My OS is Win 8.1. I use Twonky media server to play my music remotely on my smart TV. Obviously, it scans my music libraries, however, I want to have it scan for new playlists as well. I use Winamp as my music player. Where on my local disk a file is created when I generate a playlist in Winamp?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.
Using Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit, I have noticed that the full name of a local account (set with the net users "<username>" /fullname:"<full name>" command) is deleted whenever I switch from a Microsoft account to the local account associated with it.
So, how do I have to prevent this?
It appears that with Windows 8.1 RTM Microsoft wants you to concatenate all your account credentials under Windows into a Microsoft account, and that there's no way to access any of the Store or Microsoft Modern account driven software without doing so...
Is it possible to access the Store, and other Windows 8.1 account authorized features in the same manner as Windows 8 where you could have a local account and just login to these other services separately?
I have Windows 8 installed on a local account and wish to sign in from my Microsoft Account but only as & when required not all of the time. Shawn's tutorial "How to Sign in with a Different Microsoft Account to the Store in Windows 8" covers the procedure which should apply.
Attempting this offers only the "Sign In" button however once clicked the spinning circle appears for a fleeting second before the pointer is returned to the button once more, further attempts loopback in the same manner.
I can only surmise that this is happening because I have undertaken a customised install using Kari's excellent tutorial "How to Relocate User Profiles to another Partition or Disk in Windows 8" where the User Profile concerned is "D:User" and not "C:UsersUser" this being my longstanding preference from previous Windows installs from XP to 7.
I have tried the mklink /j route to link both C:UsersUser and D:UsersUser with D:User but with no success.
Is there a registry key containing the profile path which is used by the store sign in which requires modifying to my customised path of D:User?? .....or is something else amiss??

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy brother installed an update on his windows 8 laptop this morning. After doing so, all his apps/programs and everything were gone. It was just a blank start up page and blank desktop (except google chrome for some reason.) I tried a system restore twice, and a scan to see if that would fix it. Nothing worked, so I decided to just reset his laptop to factory settings as a last resort. However, pressing shift + F8 upon start up or space bar F8 did not bring up the windows restore option page (whatever it is called, bear with me!) The only other way to get to it would be "change pc settings" on the desktop. I clicked that and that isn't working either. Nothing comes up.
Edit: forgot to add that he does not have Windows 8 discs!
I installed the Windows 8.1 a number of months ago. Since then (I'm thinking, now), I could not sign in with my microsoft account and neither could I get an energy report using the admin command prompt, and was also having problems with the One Drive sync. I never thought these were related, but after months now, I finally, after seeing the new 15 gb free with One Drive, thought I would try to open an account to get 15 free gb. I didn't realize I could open more than one microsoft account, but yeah, a new account opened with the free 15 gb on One Drive.
Okay, so I got this new account, and I could then sign in with a Microsoft account using this new account, which also made my original Microsoft account available, but the problem starts with my original local account. I can no longer sign in with my original local account (see attachment). To me, it is as if I have made a new microsoft account with a sub-account, which is my original Microsoft account. One is for Windows 8.1, (the new MS account), and my original MS account was for Windows 8, which no longer exists. Somewhere in the process of creating the new account, I was given the option to elevate it to Administrator and I did, it even shows as Administrator in the User Accounts "change your account type" where the "standard" and "administrator" are available, but this is not where I somehow elevated it. Now, it seems to be the boss, my original MS account seems to be secondary or an alias.
I closed the account, but it won't be official til October, since there is a 60 day recovery plan. Even with the account closed, folders and things, because I'm currently signed in with my original MS account, need to logged into with the new account info, which is what I mean by "the boss". I can't be doing that if I'm closing the account.
I did get an energy report, but the .html file wouldn't open (see attachment).
I learned One Drive is different with Windows 8 or is it just 8.1, haven't got into it to much, right now.
How can I get my local account back, keep my original MS account, and still be able to sign in, get an energy report, and use One Drive sync?

This account keeps on appearing on my New PC fresh out of the box. It is linked to a Norton program i removed.Still have Norton remains on my PC and it is really starting to tick me off.
I have tried deleting the Norton registry but it wont delete. I have even tried deleting the dat file of the 'baqhkcmvc local account' linked to ' %ProgramFiles(x86)%Norton Internet SecurityEngine20.0.0.136ccSvcHst.exe' but it still remains.
What the blue blazes is going on? With Vista and Win7 when i removed the bloat wear they never created accounts!
I have 2 MS Accounts, one I use for XBL (@Live.com) and the other for everything else including my PC @Gmail.com. I don't see an option to use my XBL Email.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore updating, a message was shown that updating will not delete any of my information or files but apps will be uninstalled. Upon restarting my laptop, my apps were uninstalled (and I just re-installed them) but my program files were also uninstalled. Yea, I can just install them all again but some program file that were uninstalled were my Microsoft Office that I paid for and the paid software that came preinstalled on my laptop (Like the webcam, movie editor, etc). I really need those software (especially office) but I do not want to pay for them. Would a system restore bring back those files? Is that the only way I can get those programs (and others) back?
