However, I want to install it on my new PC, which means I have to install Win7 before upgrading. I wanted to know if I can install win7 and immediately install the upgrade, or is it better to go to windows update and install all the updates before upgrading?

I recently bought a copy of Windows 8 and I've been trying not to install it now because i haven't studied a lot of things about it it yet and i need to keep my PC in its current state because of work, but i cant wait anymore..

1- Can I install Windows 8 and keep my old copy of Win7?

I have a new copy of Win7 I purchased from Microsoft a few years back that I would like to install, but my PC seems to be locked to Windows 8.
I can disable the secure boot in BIOS, and install WIN7, but windows update will not function with secure boot disabled.
Can I circumvent this entirely by replacing the motherboard?
WIN8.1 Not Seeing Files Written In WIN7
Jul 10, 2014Win7 installed on SSD for 1 year now. 2 more HDD: one 2TB (name K: ) one 4TB (name T: )
About 3 weeks ago tried WN8.1 on a third HDD (1TB). After install all looked OK. Boot on WIN7 and windows tried to check disk. I let it and all looked OK. Worked normally in WIN7 and add 300GB+ of MXF files (video recorded with my camera) and 100GB+ on NEF.
After a week (approximate) boot again in Windows 8.1 . Moved from another 1TB HDD (name J: ) 55GB date on partition T (4TB HDD) and downloaded from camera 6GB MXF on partition K. On this moment I realized that on K I don't see recent MXF wrote on WIN7 after last Windows 8.1 boot.
Boot again in WIN7 and let it do Check Disk. No result: in WIN7 a see only what I see in Windows 8.1. Check Disk made an FOUND.000 on K but no files. On T I had back-up all K but some back-up was not complete after writing 55GB on it in Windows 8.1.
Now I'm scanning with recovery programs but on T I thing all is lost because of those 55GB wrote. On partition K a don't see hundred of GB (1.14TB see windows as properties of files but only 150GB free on partition so ther ar some files that ar not see by WIN7 or Windows 8.1). On T partition no unseen files (total partition space - free space = total file properties).
For testing I tried on another 1TB HDD: partition created in WIN7 and write file on it, boot Windows 8.1 and see all files, boot again WIN7 and write another files, boot Windows 8.1 and second write files are not seen.
Now I bought new 4TB HDD for scaning partition K and saving all files from it on new HDD. At this moment I have aprox. 100GB of NEF and MXF on partition K that was overwrite in back-up on partition T and for the moment is lost. Didn't work dual boot with WIN7 and Windows 8.1

Jan 1, 2014I have a Windows 7 computer with Lotus 8.5 on it and I need to transfer Lotus 8.5 and all it's files and emails and the encryption key to the Windows 8 computer. I do not think that Windows 8 will recognize Lotus 8.5 so I had the idea to partition the Windows 8 computer and install Windows 7 on one of the partitions thus making it a dual boot computer, then install Lotus 8.5 to the Windows 7 partition. My problem is Windows 8 is already installed on the computer and Windows website warns not to install the older operating system second.
Windows website warns, "You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them." What should I do? I have found some information on installing Windows 7 as a second operating system on a Windows 8 computer thus creating a Dual Boot computer and giving you the best of both worlds and full app compatibility as some of your Windows 7 applications may not be supported in a Windows 8 environment. Jan 9, 2014have Acronis 2013 Plus. What I am trying to do is image the disk of a Windows 7 machine (source) to a machine that had Windows 8 pre-installed (target - Gateway SX2110G).
I connected the Windows 7 drive to the new machine (USB data cable), disabled Secure Boot, and enabled Legacy. Booted to True Image and started the cloning of the drive. Everything seemed to go ok, but as soon as it starts to boot Windows 7, it gives a 7D BSOD. (the same BSOD it gives when I simply plug the source hard drive into the target and try to boot from it).
The source HDD (win 7) boots fine in its original machine.
*I tried the startup repair that's included with the image.. does it matter if I use the one from a disc instead?

Nov 4, 2013For some reason I cannot do anything in my Program Files for one of my hard drives. My C drive seems to be fine, as well as my 2 other drives. But in my F drive, Ive broken down the program files into a normal one and x86 one. I can basically access every other folder expect the Program Files in F drive. Program Files (x86) in the same drive works perfectly fine. Everytime i try to add a new folder or delete anything in my Program Files folder it says destination folder access denied and i need permission.
Ive tried fiddling with all the UAC and permissions but nothing seems to work.I even tried the command prompt :
"4. To Take Ownership of a Folder or Drive in a Command Prompt. NOTE: This command will take ownership of the folder or drive, and all files and subfolders in the folder or drive."
method but it says Access is Denied in my command prompt.

May 19, 2013So I use a program called crashplan to back up all my data, but the program began crashing whenever I open it. I would open it, the program would bgin running for a few seconds to a minute then just go away, close with no message.
SO I emailed crashplan and they told me to do this:
It appears that the CrashPlan backup engine is running out of memory. Please follow the instructions below to allocate more memory to the CrashPlan backup engine. Running Notepad or any other text-editor as an Admin, edit the CrashPlan engine's CrashPlanService.ini file to allow it to use more java memory:
1- Stop the backup engine: [URL] .....
2- Locate the Notepad program, right-click and Launch as Administrator
3- Go to File > Open, and navigate to C:Program FilesCrashPlanCrashPlanService.ini (note that you will have to change the option from .txt files to all files in the file selection screen in order to see the CrashPlanService.ini)
4- Find the following line in the file: -Xmx512m
5- Edit to something larger such as 768, 896, or 1024. E.g.: -Xmx1024m
This sets the maximum amount of memory that CrashPlan can use. CrashPlan will not use that much until it needs it. I would recommend starting out setting it to 768, and go higher only if you continue experiencing problems. You can set it as high as 2048 on 32-bit systems, or even higher on 64-bit systems. 6- Start the backup engine.
So I tried it but I couldn't save it, I got an error message that said "Access is Denied".

Jan 22, 2013I have two laptops, Lenova with Windows 8 and HP Pavilion with Windows 8 pro. I have a HP Officejet 7560 hooked up to the Lenova.
When I try to access the printer from the HP, it can see the printer, but in trying to connect, Windows is telling me access denied.
If I hookup the printer to the HP, the Lenova can see it, connect to it and print to it just fine.
I have checked all the sharing and permissions settings on my Lenova, and everything should be set to allow another computer to access the printer, but it is still giving me the same message.
The Printer drivers are all up-to-date. I ran DriverScanner 2013
Not Able To Delete A Folder - Access Denied
Jul 24, 2014after uninstalling avast few days ago i was prompted to restart the system. Since then when i booted up a random folder named [e1136dde5b111b6e950b(windows defender files)] came up in program files. I cannot delete it since it's needless , nor' rename it , take ownership or anything. I've provided few screenshots showing it.

Aug 25, 2013I originally had a RAID 1 and windows 8 pro 64 bit installed. I had a boot error and could no longer boot into windows. I purchased two new HDDs and created a RAID 1. Loaded Windows 8 Pro with no problem. Then I added the original two HDD so as to retrieve data. I went into the RAID BIOS and took the old HDD off RAID configuration. I then disconnected one of the original RAID HDD and now have only one of the old HDD connected to the motherboard.
In Disk Management, the disk I am trying to access is listed as DISK 1 and divided into System Reserved (D, 350 MB NTFS, Healthy (Active , Primary Partition) and (E 931.17 GB NTFS, Healthy (Primary Partition). But when I try to access the E: drive, I receive the following "E: is not accessible. Access is denied."
Any way to getting access to E: I would like to retrieve data.

Ever get this message or worse, one that does not have the access button attached? you cannot read it, you cannot look at it and you cannot delete it.
There are even worse issues where the permissions are GREYED OUT and you cannot do anything to them. (see below for a solution)
Windows 8 Consumer Preview has a robust permissions scheme that is more geared towards business users rather than err, consumers. An inherited permission means that Windows 8 set the Permissions on a volume, drive, or folder, that same set of permissions will be applied to all folders underneath it.

This REALLY sucks and the only solution I have found is a reg hack called "Take Ownership"
Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7 or Vista - How-To Geek
Install the reg (right click and install) then right click on the folder or drive and select Take Ownership. That will allow you to go back into permissions and select full read/write controls by users.
Win 8 Pro - Notepad Opens On Boot / Access Denied
Mar 14, 2014I recently upgraded my W7 Home premium to a genuine copy of 8 Pro that I got through school and now every time it boots, note pad opens up and has a smaller window saying "Access denied." I don't see anything funny looking in the start up section of task manager and everything in 7 seemed to be good and virus free before the upgrade.

In Tune-Up Utilities Their is Disk Explorer through that I can explore my Ex HDD Drive. I right clicked on my drive from Tune-up & checked the disk for error and then repaired it (Windows Error checking tool) and then reboot my PC but it is still the same.
Task Manager - Access Denied While Trying To End Certain Processes?
Dec 6, 2013I am currently using Windows 8 Professional (x64) as an administrator. My issue is that often certain programs or software do not exit properly and show up on Task manager as background processes. The issue is that I cannot end these processes because "Access is Denied" and must therefore restart my computer in order to run these programs. A simple example is Skype. When I quit Skype, it will show up as a background process on Task manager and I cannot end the process. If I try to sign into my Skype account again, it says that I am already logged in from this computer. Battlefield 4 is another example. I've never had this issue with Skype or BF4 previously, nor do I remember installing something significant that may have made changes to my PC.

Security :: Windows Firewall And BFE Cannot Be Started - Access Denied
Sep 15, 2014Following a recent Windows Update, Windows Firewall on my Windows 8 system was disabled. Upon attempting to start the firewall through the services.msc dialog, I receive an error code 1068, informing that the dependency service or group failed to start. After doing some googling to attempt to resolve the issue I found the dependency service, the Base Filtering Engine (BFE) was not active. When attempting to start the BFE service, I am stopped with an error 5, indicating that access is denied.
I am unable to figure out why access to the BFE service should be denied, since this account is the only account on the computer and has administrator privileges. Because of these issues with the firewall, I am unable to access the internet and am creating this thread through a separate laptop computer.
In a potentially related issue, Windows is not "activated", though I had activated it approximately a year earlier. Because of this, I am unable to access my Microsoft Office programs. I believe that I am unable to activate windows due to a lack of internet connectivity caused by the above firewall issue.
My next step is to take the computer into a nearby service depot and pay the requisite charges.
Removing GPS Location From Photo - File Access Denied?
May 4, 2013When you right click on a photo and go to Properties -> Details , there is a link at the bottom called Remove Properties and Personal Information that will remove the camera EXIF data, GPS location and other metadata.
I took a photo on my iPad and emailed that picture to my Windows 8 laptop. The photo contains personal information including my GPS location that I want to remove. When I try to remove it I get an error message saying File Access Denied....You need permission to perform this action. I'm the only user on this laptop...I'm the Administrator. I have Full Control over this file in permissions. I even added the Take Ownership thing to the right click menu and tried that, but it still wouldn't allow me to remove the personal information from the photo.
It works on photos taken with my other digital cameras, just not with photos taken with my iPad.

Sep 20, 2013My new laptop that runs the despicable OS, Windows 8. I'm the ONLY user, the owner AND Administrator of my laptop, but I'm denied access to my own files!! I'm only a casual user, meaning I use my PC for "fun stuff"...i.e. writing & reading emails; playing games & searching the internet for things that interest me. I don't have anything on my PC that has to be "guarded" from others, as NO ONE ELSE uses my PC. That said, I should be able to access EVERYTHING on my PC, but the paranoid screwballs at Micro$oft have set up the most confounding OS, & I'm repeatedly denied accessing things like: Program Files, Pictures (even though I'm the one who put them there!!), Properties, etc. etc.
I know I'm not the only one who's been confronted with these problems, as I've read the same things repeated on sites in the many places I've visited in my attempt to figure out how to break the chains that Micro$oft has put on MY PC. How to change the settings so I can access my own stuff? I don't understand why MY computer is given the authority to DENY ME access to stuff I entered myself. When I couldn't view my OWN Pictures, (that I put here!!!), How I can use my own PC the way I want to...like the "good old days" of XP & even Vista HP?
Access Denied To Drive After Switching SATA Ports
Sep 22, 2013I have 3 disks in my computer, of which 2 are SSDs.
I swapped the SATA ports between one SSD and the HDD so as to give the SSD a SATA port with maximum 6gb/s transfer speed, and now the access to the HDD is denied. The drive letters are correct, as they should be.
The user (myself, admin) did not change.
What can be done about it? I already tried to check the ownership of the drive and says STEVECOMPUTER/Administrators, which looks good, as my user account is an admin. Still, I have no access.
