View 1 RepliesI'm using several internal hard drives with my computer, one of which is 1.5Tb in size (on a single partition). On this HD I store a number of multi-media files, which I've sorted/placed in specific "main" folders (Audio files - Picture files - Video files - etc.), and within each of these main folders are a number of other folders where the contents (pictures, etc), are sorted/filed for easier access. This evening I noticed that all the files (several years of pictures), which were within a main folder labeled "Pictures", have disappeared (they were there a few hours before)!! T he main folder was still there, but now shows as being empty, but all the sub-folders and their contents have suddenly disappeared. Everything else on the hard drive is still where it should be.I checked the main recycle bin on C drive, but the files weren't there (there was one photo there which I deleted yesterday. I did a "restore" for it and it left the recycle bin but didn't show up where it came from - the HD where the other pictures have gone missing from - or, as far as I can see, anywhere else).
I also checked the recycle bin on the actual hard drive where this mystery occurred and discovered one "folder" containing almost 5Gb of something - - I can't open it. A check in properties shows this folder to be marked as "hidden" and the box is shaded out, i.e., blocked to prevent being changed. The box immediately above the hidden box (Read-only), isn't checked - but, instead of being blank, it's blue (and if I click it the blue is replaced by a blank box)!!I've read in this forum of some similar experiences - but usually they're program files on C drive that have disappeared and not actual "stored" files on another HD, so I wasn't able to receive any help from them - - except to be comforted in the strong possibility that the files are still there, they've just been hidden by windows (7 Ultimate, 64bit).I also contacted a company (BitMart) who's product (Restorer 2000 Pro), I purchased several years ago. I'm told that my product does not support either W-7 or 64 bit but their newest version does - - however, there's no guarantee that a recovery can be made if the files haven't been deleted from the drive and are only in a hidden state.
My sidebar and gadgets suddenly disappeared. If I right click on my desktop and click on gadgets it opens the gadget window but there are no gadgets there. I've tried the restore desktop gadgets installed by windows and got the message "There were no Windows or administrator gadgets to restore". I've tried deleting zones in regedit, turning the windows gadget platform off and on etc, re-registering the dll files using- regsvr32 msxml3.dll regsvr32 scrrun.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll.

I've got a GA-990FXA-UD3 GIGABYTE mobo, and that's all I'd think matters. It was working a little while ago (Yesterday) with no problems. When I got home, the little speaker thingy on the bottom right had an error thing next to it.So, I looked in the volume settings to check stuff out, and but when I click "OK," it goes back to the lonely, empty, no speaker'd room.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLogged in today and just saw that the battery icon has gone. So now I don't know whether I have full battery or almost gone, apart from the alerts.
I right clicked the the taskbar above the other icons > properties but the power icon is set to off, and the 'off' button is blurred out, so I can't set it back to on. All the other icons are set to 'on', and have the option to be turned off, just the battery one is blocked.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to open a program It happend when I was associating a blank icon, one like in the photo, with the game it used to be, which I had re-downloaded but the icon showed as if the game was no longer on the computer. When I done this, all of the icons on the screen and on the 'start' screen when you go into 'all programs' turned to the game icon. I then deleted the game and restarted the computer as 'last known good configuration' or something like that and after it took an unusually long time to start up (about seven minutes), all the icons showed up as in the ones shown on the screen shot above.

Usually, when you press the buttons a volume bar appears in the middle of the screen and tells you where the volume is. It does not appear now.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had my new desktop with Windows 7 Home 64bit for about 2 weeks now and so far im loving it. The one and only problem im having is the volume icon in the taskbar.Sometimes when my Windows boots up, the volume icon is missing from the taskbar. I take a look in "turn system icons on or off" and the Volume, Network and Action Center are greyed out (cant click them.) It does this once every 2 or 3 reboots. The only way to fix it is to reboot. Its not a huge problem but its very annoying having to reboot 2 times.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was working on changing the three audio jacks into 5.1 surround outputs. After I was done, anytime I clicked on the normal volume icon, either right or left click, it pops up the "Line In Properties" dialog. On left click, it also shows the normal volume adjuster, but hides it after about 2 secs, preventing me from sliding to adjust volume. I am also inhibited from opening the Playback Devices, Recording Devices, and Sound options that show up with a right click of the icon.As it is extremely frustrating to have to navigate through the Control panel every time I want to change sound levels?
