Some Naturally Slow Part Of Recovery Process?
Apr 24, 2012
I'm running Acer eRecovery v7.7.8 with recovery disks. Having run smoothly, it has been on 98% for about half an hour. Is there something wrong or is it at some naturally slow part of the recovery process?

I bought this computer with Windows 7 since about 8 months. Within the last two months ago, shutdown process has become very slow. It's take 1-2 minutes every time. Startup time seems normal.I have now licensed kaspersky Internet Security and Comodo free Firewall (Does this affect?)The operating system updates have automatically installing since the beginning of my use. Most of my use is surfing the Internet and web design programs.Asus A52F with 3gb memory.

I have a problem when booting up Windows 7, it hangs at ''starting windows'' for 10 minutes and then works flawlessly. I've tried Windows 7 build 7201, then upgraded to build 7229(both 64bit)and now i have Windows 7 build 7231(32 bit) and still got the problem. Having tried different things like new nvidia drivers, new sound card drivers, different sata settings, disabled any secondary LAN adapters...etc I've decided to post here, maybe someone had the same problem and knows how to fix it.

I'm looking to reinstall Windows 7 64 on my Gateway computer. I go into the advanced recovery options and tell it to reinstall to original factory. Everything is going well and the computer restarts to begin the process ... I choose my keyboard type at the prompt ... but then, I get this message in a dialogue box:
"Please complete operating system setup process before doing system recovery".
I have no idea what that means or what it is asking me to do. I've googled everywhere and can't find any info on it.

I tried to break the disk on several parts with Partition Manager, but at the middle of the process it froze and I forced the computer to restart. After resetting it says to "Insert the Recover Disk or other Recovery Media". After it I put the disc with the Windows 7 and at the menu where you have to choose to move (by keyboard arrows) to installation, the keyboard does not work, so I can't move to the installation and it jumps directly to the Local Disc. I also tried Windows XP disc and the same problem - there is no chance to reinstall the system. The keyboard is working in the BIOS, but after does not work.

I installed Windows 7 Professional x64 from a clean install (format, then install) and ever since, the "safely remove hardware" function has been terrifically slow - about 30-45 seconds from me clicking on the safely remove hardware icon to the menu popping up.
I've completely exhausted any of my ideas, and seemingly Google's, so if anyone can help me shed some light on this I would be unbelievably grateful - it aggrevates me SO much!
I have a feeling it's something to do with the way USB devices are handled in Windows 7, as I have a similar problem with my HP Photosmart C5280 multifunction printer - two-way communication with it appears to be ridiculously slow,
which means that from clicking "properties" to change print settings from a print dialog it takes 45 seconds for the hp printer utilities thingy to come up so I can change settings. Also printing in general appears to be a lot slower.

I don't get the "setup.exe" option when installing. I tested it out on 2 other computers and I do. Researching this problem lead me what I thought was the answer (upgrading from Vista should have created a folder called "windows.old" for which I need to rename. Then I will supposedly be able to install the program. However, I can't locate this "windows.old" folder I've used the search box, I've looked through the C: drive. Can't find it anywhere.

I am getting this error all the time with Windows 7. I open a text file I want to edit, then go to save my changes and I get this error:"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".I have full admin rights, running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1. From a bit of research I have seen where many others have been experiencing this problem or something similar too. The only "fix" (that doesn't work all the time) is to close explorer.exe and then restart it to "release the handle"? Anyway, this is not acceptable for all the money and time I spent upgrading/configuring this new OS from XP -where I never had this problem- and seriously cuts down my productivity.Has Microsoft even acknowledged this as a bug yet? I can duplicate this scenario the second or third time I try to edit/save/delete a text file and I know that explorer.exe is the problem or a big part of it in any case. I don't want to go back to XP x64 but having to deal with this headache 10-20 times a day is just too much to ask.The file here is a game's map script & has to be saved to a .pk3 and then loaded into the program's root before it can run so i know othing else is running the file. No apps running in taskmngr either.

New dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.

I was having issues the other day and ran sfc/ scannow and it returned errors stating that it could not repair twain_32.dll or twain_32.dll.mui. In searching on Google I am finding disturbing results that make me think that these files are not suppose to even be there and are not part of the Win 7 core install.

when the windows logo appears it makes a design and then says windows, but right before your desktop or username pops up it does a little skip. i can't explain it, but near the symbol it looks like it has a little blue line. Anyone know what im talking about. maybe u have to just look closely. its like a stutter, but its very minimal. Im assuming my 7 is installed correctly everythin works fine all my updates updated and everything im just wondering why it does that. is that part of the intro?

I tried to install Windows 8 a week ago, just to simply try it out, and I was trying to install it as a dual boot, but instead what happened was Windows 7 got replaced by Windows 8, and then Windows 8 crashed, HARDCORE!! Now Windows isn't working.I don't have a Windows 7 disc, but I DO have a backup file from when I installed Windows 8 on my hard drive.I tried to run the backup file with diskpart command, and I put the location of the VHD, but the prompt is telling me that there is an error which reads "access denied"I've already tried using the Windows.old folder to revert back to Windows 7, but it didn't work.

I have been encountering a problem with a small netbook which has a 1024 x 600 screen resolution. The problem is that the window of some application is un-resizable ( I've also tried to download a small registery hack which makes it possible to resize un-resizable windows, but it seems like it won't work with that one)So, as you know, it is possible to partially hide a window on the left, right and bottom borders of the screen, but it is impossible on the top border, where the window would just go down again (while it can't be maximized though ).Is there any way to make it possible to hide a part of the windows over the top border so I can see the bottom of the window ?

I've had my partitions over several drives set for many months. Suddenly on boot this morning, one of the partitions isn't recognized by Windows (7 64-bit). My partition software (EaseUS Partition Manager Pro) does "see" it and shows the correct division of used and unused space. This is an NTFS partition with 11.86 GB capacity and 2.50 GB used. The status is None and the type is logical. The error message box title is "Location is not available". The message is:H: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.I've had no activity in this partition for several days. The partitions on either side are fine (fingers crossed they stay that way!). They same the same characteristics (although obviously different capacities) as the missing partition.

Atm I have 500GB array from two 250GB in raid0 with Vista on it... its using up about 90GB of space (leaving around 375GB free) and I want to shrink the partition to say 100GB (see below). Then I want to reformat the unallocated space (~350GB) to be used by my Windows 7 install on my SSD. I know you can use the Disk Management in device manager to do all this but I want the 350GB free space partition to be at the front of the disk (the fastest) and have the old 100GB Vista partition right at the end (in the slowest part I guess, which its ok cos I will rarely boot into it).
About above... just wondering when I shrink the partition to 100GB even though it is only using 90GB is 10GB a good enough buffer for windows to not spaz out? Or is it even too much can I get away with just 2-3GB buffer... I wont be installing or writing anything new to it. It will be mainly just for reading data and booting.
