I use port forwarding on port 3389 on my home router so I can remote to my PC from wherever I am. I have some concerns about the amount of unauthorized log on attemps that are present in the security section of event viewer on my home PC. Obviously someone is scanning for open ports, and from what I can see none of the attempts were successful at logging in, but I'm wondering what approach I should take to hide the presence of this open port?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and I noticed the following: Several Microsoft services have been stopped. Should I get these running? If so how do I do that? Is "logmeinrescue" a bad program? Also can the following events be solved? A lot are from "Bonjour Service". Should I be worried about these?
I'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:
1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)
2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"
3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).
4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.
I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.
ok i had some recent windows updates succesfuly and rebooted, since that at start up im getting "Error msg : Boot configuration data editor has stopped working"any way to sort this ? what cause it ?Have tryed system restore several diffirent restore dates but still the same.
Don't have the specified path to Bluetooth Media Service and Bluetooth Device Monitor in system services...It appears the programs are missing. Any Ideas how or where to get them back?NEW Dell xps 15 laptopWindows 7 Home Ulitmate 64 bit
I ran the System diagnostic and it seems I have a service that is "abnormally terminating service" It lists it as "UNKOWN" . I checked Services in Administrative Tools and see no errors that I know of anyway. Has anyone else encounter this? I have attached a snapshot of my system diagnostic results..
i downloaded a trial progran and deleted it, then i had problems with windows, booted eventually after 6 minutes but no internet and i get this error message, windows cannot connect to systen event services, log in as admin and check what services fail to load, but it wont even do that. my system restore has also been disabled etc. i tried a repair but no joy, so i tried an upgrade but, because the installed version on the PC is newer than the CD version it wont do the upgrade. i am trying to avoid a clean install. how can i get past the "you have a newer version of windows" and do the upgrade,
I'm trying to sort out issues with my Windows 7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..
Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?
I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.
I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.
I went to check my msconfig today and I noticed my "Startup Selection" was set to "Selective Startup". I certainly do not recall doing this and have been having no problems with my computer so I was wondering if it's meant to be like this? Should I leave it alone or change it back to normal startup?
i just bought a new comp and am trying to use system mechanic/one click cleanup software that i had previously bought and an error comes up saying "system maintenance software has stopped working".application will exit and windows will search for a resolution and let me know when one is available. Does any one know what could be the problem?.
I've been Goggling of & on for the last month & about 3 hours today getting nowhere. I've tried to restore in Safe mode, & MS answers, Methods 1: Turn off system protection and check if the issue persists, Method 2: Perform SFC scan on your computer & I tried a Sys Restore with my Sys Repair Disk & none have helped. Other than doing a Format & starting over.
I installed new hardware and the system prompts me to run a reassessment . When I do it stops part way through with the above captioned message. I was messing around with the partition editor in Fedora 14 and accidentally changed the file type on the boot partition. When I go through the startup repair and do the command prompt method, when I enter bcdedit I get the message "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The system cannot find the file specified"When I do bootrec.exe /fixboot it give me this. "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded an that the volume is not corrupted" /fixmbr says that it completes successfully btw.
System Wide spell checker? Does Win 7 have a system wide spell checker, something that will highlight all misspelled words with red underlining, then allow you to right-click on it to select the correct spelling? My win 7 was doing it for a while now it has stopped?
I am not able to access the HP v220W 16 GB Flash Drive is not working in my Windows 7 system it says " Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)"
During a full system restore of my computer i didn't realize it was not charging and left it to finish the restore. Shortly coming back later, it had died so i rebooted it. During the reboot, it did its normal process well restoring," Setup is starting services.", but then during the process when gathering windows data to restore the computer in its final stages, it gives me the message" Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." Shortly after starting my computer, going through the same process, it gives me that message again, and then it repeats, and eventually of course, goes into a circle of completing the same issue.
Suddenly internet has stopped working on my system Dell inspiron N5010. I tried installing Lan drivers for the above series but still its not workling.
I bought a usb wifi adapter for my desktop and it would not work. Saying the service for it was not running. Typing services.msc would only give me an error "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) settings prohibit ActiveX 2) blocked publisher. Event Viewer also stopped running, showing the error "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.
Today, my computer just finished installing updates, and was waiting for me at the user selection/log in screen when I checked on it. I powered it off by holding the power button down to change some BIOS settings. (In the end, I did not save any changes to the BIOS, so I can rule that out) After rebooting and logging in, MSE and avast both tell me that their respective services have been stopped, and WiFi is not working either (its stuck as connected, but has the small yellow triangle in the icon, it says its identifying, but its been stuck like that). Other services, such as Dropbox and RocketDock have also been stopped on my computer.I then rebooted into Safe Mode with Networking. WiFi is still not working, and now, audio service is also stopped. From here, I uninstalled all of the updates that had been installed today. I then rebooted normally. Finally, RocketDock and Audio Service are running again, avast!, MSE, Dropbox, and WiFi are not still. I'm using Malwarebytes' and avast! to scan for crap that might be doing stuff (Malwarebytes' has already picked up four positives, both scans are still underway).
when I look through services.msc Wireless Zero Configuration is missing, how do you go about reinstalling this service in Windows 7 or can't it be done.
I use my desktop as a recording studio PC some of the time, and those DAW programs need a LOT of resources. That's why most of them recommend you install them on a seperate partition, and stop most of Windows' services.I don't want to install it on a different partition, What I'm trying to do is install it on a different user, but then just have that specific user NOT run a few services and startup programs.I could find a way to disable startup programs for a specific user, but I couldn't find a way to disable SERVICES for only one specific user. Services like "Task Scheduler", "Indexer", iTunes, AVG, TeamViewer, and many more that I do NOT want running on my studio user - but I DO want running on my every day user.
