View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething has recently happened to my mouse pointer icon. It is split in half by a gap of about a 1/16", there is a short vertical line attached to the tail as well, and it will disappear when you mouse over address/ text box. This will also occur when the icon changes from the pointer to the loading circle. It is split in half as well.I've tried changing the theme, color and the pointer icon and the issue persisted. When I changed the option to no theme only the right half of the pointer appeared. One other thing changed and I'm having trouble explaining this part; the position where the mouse "point" is has moved from the end of the arrow to right side end of what remains of the pointer. The only success in restoring normal pointer function was to activate the tail option. However this doesn't correct whatever is wrong here. I should also note that I have only one monitor..It looks something like this but it is the standard size.

View 0 Replies View Relatedif i had 2 apps open, i could single click app 1's respective Taskbar icon to restore (minimize)/lose (set) focus. the aforementioned method would also minimize or maximize the app 1's window as the focus changed. further, if i launched app 2, app 2 would load in the foreground, immediately receive focus and i could use it right away. seems after a recent Windows Update, i lost the ability to use all the above methods. My current Taskbar properties are: Taskbar Tab - Lock the Taskbar, Use Small Icons and Autopeek all enabled Start Menu Tab - both Privacy settings enabled the steps below describes the current behavior starting with no apps open: i open app 1 (e.g., Firefox) and perform an app 1 activity next I open app 2 (e.g., Word) and app 2 loads in the background (as opposed to opening in the foreground and receiving the focus) i click on app 2's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 2 activity, however, app 2's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 2 doesn't receive the focus.to access app 2 i have to minimize app 1 using app 1's minimize button if i want to go back to app 1 i click on app 1's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 1 activity, however, app 1's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 1 doesn't receive the focus. to access app 1 i have to minimize app 2 using app 2's minimize button now clicking an app 1 or app 2 taskbar icons cause them to start flashing if app 2 has the focus, and i mouse over app 1 (when it doesn't have the focus) and click the preview of app 1, app 1's taskbar icon flashes, but the focus does not shift to app 1 - it remains with app 2. with 5 apps open, if i want access to app 2, i have to minimize app 1, 3, 4 and 5 using their respective minimize buttons to see/gain access app 2. as i mentioned, in the past, i only needed to single click any app's Taskbar icon once to lose focus (and minimize window) and transfer focus (and restore window) to another app or vice versa. call me weird, etc, but this greatly enhances my work productivity because i'm navigating to windows with virtual machines, remote desktop connections, etc. i even created a restore point where this behavior is working as i want it. if i restore and update, the behavior changes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I move a file to the recycle bin or to another location (drag and drop), the file has moved but the icon remains anchored in the original location and does not appear in the destination location. When I restart the computer, the files and icons appear in the destination location.
Similarly, when I download a file to the desktop, the icon does not appear untill I restart the computer.
I have a software installed and i changed the name of shortcut then i changed it back to original name, Ended up having no icon for .exe itself! When i change the name to a random name the icon appear again, I deleted IconCache.db and still have the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an icon on my Win7Pro desktop that cannot be deleted, changed, or anything. I believe it was originally connected to a pdf file that I downloaded (from a reputable site) but the download was interrupted. It's file name is simply Donor.
When I try to delete it I get a flash screen that states: Could not find this item. This is no longer located (in desktop location). Verify the item's location and try again.
I cannot rename the file. It's properties shows that it is on the desktop but has 0 bytes.
I have tried about a gazillion things to no avail, including: Searched the registry for any entry that matches Donor, with nothing found. Booted into safe mode and tried from there with no luck, still won't delete. I am using full Kaspersky and a complete system sweep shows no malware, virus, etc. Found some sites that gave some script for trying to remove such files via the CMD prompt, but result always was that the file does not exist.
The icon is for a weather report for my area. Cannot remove, delete or rename it. Windows 7 says it doesn't exist!
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat i mean is, if i drag or right click a file (picture, folder or film etc) and select delete, the file goes to the recycle bin no problem, but it appears to stay on the desktop too. It is definately in the bin also, if i select the file once in the bin it wont open because windows tells me it doesnt exsist so why is the icon left behind ? its anoying to have to refresh to see it dissapear.
Also emptying the bin of the file doesnt make a difference either. Icon remains.I have ran a virus check, spyware, malware etc... PC is as clean as a whistle.
i use windows 7, this icon or image appears in front of any window i open.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 home prem & would like to remove desktop icons that I never use (from the desktop). These icons are: documents, libraries, control panel, my documents, desktop. I normally delete icons by right clicking on the icon & selecting "delete." However, when I do this to "my documents" it starts to delete the data not the icon. I'm now afraid to delete the any of the above because I don't want to loose the information. I tried using "personalize" from the desktop but no luck.
