it has no recovery ability, the downloaded utility HP recommends keep telling me I am missing .dll files and other errors. can't make backup discs because the utility is not on the computer and the downloaded utility is not doing the job. how to contact HP with no success.
I just bought an HP Mini (200-4218tu) last Sunday. Now, when I tried to partition C, it was cut in half. However when I tried to format the unallocated space, it won't allow me. It said it doesn't support what I did. This case, the partition for HP RECOVERY and HP TOOLS were still intact. On boot-up, I can still press F11 for the HP recovery. Now, relying on the partition recovery, I decided to wipe C and install a trial Windows 7 ultimate just to be able to partition the drive. Success! I was able to create a partition but the HP TOOLS got wiped out too. I did a research that the HDD supports only 4 partitions. And the drivers downloadable via HP site were not useful at all to be able to override the OS installation. Thus far, when I tried to press F11 for the recovery, it prompted an error that the "BOOT" thing was not found and I need the recovery disk. Even upon OS set-up, I can no longer delete C. And bring it back to its 400Gb clean space.
I remember a while back I got a BSOD, but I fixed it by reformatting my C drive, this didn't remove my OS or touch anything on my D drive however. I would now like to do the same, not because I have a problem but because my computer is becoming sluggish and I haven't reformatted for a long time. However, searching up how to reformat the C drive, without removing this OS seems literally impossible, every post I see just says the following: get your OS disk. Despite this, I managed to get the C drive back to factory defaults while keeping the OS, all my drivers for my hardware (graphics card, sound card etc.) intact. I would like to do the same again, if it is actually possible. This was originally a box PC so I don't have any CDs except for the one for my new graphics card which I replaced a faulty one with.
I have Toshiba Satellite laptop and it was very sluggish lately so I restored it to factory defaults. After restoration, I updated OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) and then installed programs I needed. But I am noticing that many of these programs, like Skype, Winamp, Teracopy etc. crash either at start or during the process. All these programs worked flawlessly before restoration.
Dell is not helping me at all, this is the 3rd time this has happened on the same laptop and idk what to do I cant repair it, it says

I restored my friend's HP Vista desktop to factory defaults. When I attempted the first round of 91 Windows Updates, 50 of them came back as Failed to Install. I thought maybe the Recovery went bad, so I re-did the recovery to factory defaults. I was able to install half of the updates, (I decided to do half at a time), but now it is locking up at random times. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics, found no errors. I ran chkdsk /r from a command prompt, it found no errors. Any ideas where to look next? I'm thinking to open it up and look for swelled up capacitors
I have an Inspiron N4010, and one night, it worked perfectly, and the next morning it wouldn't start. So I had to restore my PC to the factory image. Now, many programs on my computer crash only minutes, or even seconds, after executing them. I do not understand why. I have not deleted any files, I have not messed with anything, and I have kept my PC up to date, as well as protected. There is no reason for why my computer runs the way it does.
EDIT: This is added by moderator. The problem system has been "restored" to factory defaults, so you can skip to post # 11 and be missing only some history. I have also at this time moved the thread from Networking to Windows 7.Okay, this is my boyfriend's laptop. He's left it with me to see if I can fix it. I'm at work right now, and it is at home, so I can't try anything until I get home tonight. Here'e the situation, as best I can tell:He has 2 laptops...one is old, and connects fine, the other is probably 6 months old - a Dell - Windows 7, and this is the one that is having problems. The other laptop has no problem with its connection - it is just the Dell laptop. He brought it over to my house last night, and it is doing the same thing. It finds and connects to my network, but it states that it is a "limited access" connection, which essentially means you have no internet connection (apparently).
So here is what I have found out. For one, his laptop came with few months subscription to McAfee...and apparently that is now expired. He's never renewed it. I did put MalwareBytes on there for him, when he got the thing, but I don't think he runs it unless he thinks there is a problem. I've told him to keep it updated, but I guess he thinks I can fix it if there is a problem. Again... (Once we get this fixed, he WILL keep this stuff current..darn it.) Anyway...he said he kept getting some popups - the ones that ask if you want to "allow a program to make a change to your computer"...and he always said no. I think he got several of those in one night. He ran the MalwareBytes, and it found and quarantined some malware (I don't know what sort of things - I was not there when he ran it) and then when he tried to access his network again, he got the "limited access" thing. So...something has happened, just on that laptop. I messed around with it a little last night, but I couldn't get anything working.
We have a family computer with three main accounts; admin, josh, becky. "josh" has been reset but the other two accounts; "admin" and "becky" are the same. I have never seen this happen and I have no idea how to recover the files on Josh's account. How can I recov the account before everything was deleted?
I have an HP laptop (model HP G56 Notebook PC) that I am having a manner of problems with. There's definitely something wrong with it, but virus scanners are not picking it up.So I've decided to just reformat it and start from scratch (I've been planning on doing it for a while anyway). The problem is, the "Restore to factory settings" doesn't work properly. I go through the steps, backup etc then it says I need to restart for the process to start (which has worked fine before). The problem is that when the system restarts, the computer just sits at a black screen. Nothing happens, I've tried leaving it for ages but eventually I'm left with no choice but to switch the powerbutton off and then it starts up as normal.I've also tried going directly from the boot-up screen and selecting system restore that way, but again it just takes me to a blank screen until I hit the power button. It's like it's impossible for me to reset the computer.
Just wondering if it is wise to restore to factory settings (computer is little over 3 years old). Reason is I installed a lot of programs over the years and just want to clear all unwanted files etc. Also my recovery drive is highlited in red.
I have an Acer Aspire 2520-BZ873 and need to restore it to factory conditions. I have no windows installation disc and no money to purchase it. When i start the process and it restarts the laptop a black screen saying "Cant process boot selection because a device is inaccessible" What can i do to fix this?I cant even restore it in safe mode. Im not all technical and dont understand much about laptops.
As I was unable to find any solution to my laptop sound problems (here)I'm going to try reset it. I don't know if that'll make a difference but willing to try. I've never had to do that before so I'm a little apprehensive.
I am trying to fix a Toshiba laptop that failed during a factory restore by the customer and would not complete the restore. I have since tested the ram and hard drive and they are ok. I replaced the faulty cd drive too. The factory restore worked this time, but I keep getting a blue screen during the 'Checking System Performance' stage of the recovery. Windows is installed and all drivers are in as I can see in safe mode but if I try to boot to normal Windows I get the BSOD boot loop and don't know how to bypass it. I have attached a html file of the crash reports from BlueScreenView. The problem appears to be with the ATI display driver, but I am not sure how to update it in safe mode.
I have done a 2nd factory restore because some issues but now I need to do a 3rd factory restore because the laptop has too many applications installed and I prefer to restore it to original settings. I want to know if I have done 3 or more factory restores can this damage/harm laptop.
My hard drive crashed recently. I'm using an HP notebook, I'm not entirely sure what the model is and all that, I'm not too computer savvy. Anyway, my hard drive crashed today, I'm not sure why. My computer fails every start-up test and will not load any diagnostics or restore menus. Is there a way I can make my computer get to the Windows restore menu to completely reset my laptop?
how can i restore my acer computer (aspire 5710) which was originaly vista but i upgraded to windows 7 how can i restore to factory settings with windows 7
My son put my 4G aircard from my Apple into the USB port in his Acer. It wouldn't work, so he just pulled it out without going through the eject function. Now when his Acer is turned on it won't sign on at all. It goes to a black and white screed for Windows Boot Manager and says it is an error cause by unplugging the USB drive while the device was in use. If you push enter, it goes to the Windows Error Recovery black & white screen. No matter what you do, it just goes back & forth between those two screens. I can't even get to a Windows screen to to any recovery program.
For my dell 1564...i I am looking to restore it. I read previous posts. I get to "system recovery options" and tried the first 3 options for restore/ repair, but nothing..its all restore to previous point, which apparently I dont have even though I made them, and dell cds dont seem to want to load up, in safe mode, reg, hitting f12, f2, f8, ctrl f11 and so on..
my son forgot his password for his laptop. He has an Acer with Windows 7.how to restore the computer to factory settings? I was told that is what we needed to do in order to log back on.
