Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device / Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device

Dec 1, 2012

I am having a problem starting my PC! I have to start it in the boot menu under the RAID option. If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.

"Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key"?

Sep 5, 2011

When it crashes the cursor still moves and sometimes I can move windows around but then it all shuts down and sometimes briefly shows a blue screen of death. On reboot I sometimes get this message and have to reboot again. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"It's a brand new box just built last week but no warranty and I would not even know what part to replace if it's hardware related.I've attached a Hijackthis to the post if it helps but I don't think it's virus related at all.

"Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key"

May 13, 2012

When left alone..."Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"I have a new(ish) cpu that I bought last Christmas, it works great and it has not crashed on me whenever I am using it. However, when I leave it on overnight (usually when it is downloading something big), when I wake up in the morning I am greeted with a black screen with the words:"Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"When this happens I simply press the power button a few seconds to turn it off, then turn it on again and it boots normally. (pressing a key only results in the message being repeated)What infuriates me is that it only ever happens when I leave it on overnight so I don't know when and how exactly it occurs but it almost always does. Like I said earler, it never does this when I am using it as it works fine otherwise. It just won't stay on overnight when I need it to.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected?

Aug 11, 2011

I'm busy installing a computer for a friend but we're stuck at an error. This are the computer specs to start with:

Asus P8P67-M Pro Rev 3
1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ
Intel Core i5 2500K
Corsair 8GB 1600 mhz
Scythe Mugen 2 rev B
GeForce GTX 570
Lian Li Lancool PC-K56
Corsair CX 600W
Optiarc AD-72605 DVD RW SATA

The BIOS boot priority is 1# Dvd Player and 2# Harddrive (so it detects both). It's also a SATA harddrive so I don't need to do anything with jumpers. Then when I insert the Windows 7 DVD it outputs the following error:reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected The PC is new and got build at a store so the only thing I need to do is install the software.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected?

I just changed my PSU and upgraded my graphics card today. I tried booting it up and it came up with this message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."I'm pretty sure I got all the cables in correctly and I only have one harddrive. No externals.By the way, I don't have my windows 7 CD because I let a friend borrow it and I won't be able to get it back for some time. However, I do have a Windows XP CD if that helps in any way.

CD Won't Boot From Boot Device Menu

May 4, 2012

I am doing an upgrade from XP to Windows 7. I have done this numerous times with no problems until today. I put in the disc for the upgrade and loaded the Boot Device Menu (F12). Then I selected Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive and I can hear the CD spinning but it does nothing. It wont load and the 'Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive' option stays highlighted. I just installed XP doing this exact same method because I installed a new harddrive and I had no problems. It only occurred once I put in the W7 disc.

" thought it fixed issue" shut down and reloaded os. With same msg " no boot device found" so i pressed F2 and choose boot proprity hard drive and then it loaded OS as if nothing happened. So i thought maybe my hard drive could have issues, Did harddrive all passed, So i think now that it could be my motherboard or the sata connecter?

Boot Device Error

Jun 28, 2009

It all started with my pc restarting(it was a power failure) to show boot device failure, insert system disk, i tried everything, from unplugging usb devices to re inserting sata cables but to no avail, now when i try to reinstall windows the setup recognizes all my partitions but refuses to install into any of them, ubuntu only recognizes one of my hard disk and partition( i have 1 big 500 g hdd as 1 part, and 2 250 g hdds in raid 0).

I tried booting from my bart pe created windows live cds but they dont detect any partitions what so ever, windows 7 dvd's repair utility can access my file structure when i browse for drivers, but it wont repair the problem, nor will it install.

Unable To Boot Device Error?

Jan 30, 2012

My friend's desktop PC had this issue, it runs Win 7, is an HP and is just one year old. It either gives the "Unable to boot device error", or asks for the Windows CD that he doesn't have (bought it at a department store, it came with Win7 original installation but no CD). It doesn't open Windows. It still recognizes it as a hard drive in the BIOS screen, the startup order was never altered and should be Hard Drive then CD/DVD. Searching for a quick solution he found suggestions to try and change from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS and at last it got to Windows startup. Win7 in safe mode prompts him a repair mode that's going on for two hours.I downloaded the hard drive maker's tools for diagnostics (they're burnable on a cd) and will try them if this windows repair mode keeps going on indefinitely.

After talking with my friend I found and replaced the wire. I tried doing a "repair" using F8 but no luck. I can however use the option to "start my computer using the last known etc." Everything works fine, but when I shut the machine off I get the "can't find bootdevice" again when I restart. What do I have to change in my bios settings to make the machine boot normally?
