Dec 1, 2012I am having a problem starting my PC! I have to start it in the boot menu under the RAID option. If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.

Oct 25, 2011I recently received a new laptop. After starting after time with no problems I received a blue screen with Verticle black stripes then it shut off. After attempting to reboot it I receive this error in a black DOS like screen.

Sep 5, 2011When it crashes the cursor still moves and sometimes I can move windows around but then it all shuts down and sometimes briefly shows a blue screen of death. On reboot I sometimes get this message and have to reboot again. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"It's a brand new box just built last week but no warranty and I would not even know what part to replace if it's hardware related.I've attached a Hijackthis to the post if it helps but I don't think it's virus related at all.

May 13, 2012When left alone..."Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"I have a new(ish) cpu that I bought last Christmas, it works great and it has not crashed on me whenever I am using it. However, when I leave it on overnight (usually when it is downloading something big), when I wake up in the morning I am greeted with a black screen with the words:"Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"When this happens I simply press the power button a few seconds to turn it off, then turn it on again and it boots normally. (pressing a key only results in the message being repeated)What infuriates me is that it only ever happens when I leave it on overnight so I don't know when and how exactly it occurs but it almost always does. Like I said earler, it never does this when I am using it as it works fine otherwise. It just won't stay on overnight when I need it to.
System info:
Windows 7 ultimate x64 (full retail, installed once from scratch)

I tried booting it up and it came up with this message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."I'm pretty sure I got all the cables in correctly and I only have one harddrive. No externals.By the way, I don't have my windows 7 CD because I let a friend borrow it and I won't be able to get it back for some time. However, I do have a Windows XP CD if that helps in any way.

May 4, 2012I am doing an upgrade from XP to Windows 7. I have done this numerous times with no problems until today. I put in the disc for the upgrade and loaded the Boot Device Menu (F12). Then I selected Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive and I can hear the CD spinning but it does nothing. It wont load and the 'Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive' option stays highlighted. I just installed XP doing this exact same method because I installed a new harddrive and I had no problems. It only occurred once I put in the W7 disc.

Jan 4, 2013So loaded up a older laptop from 2009, with the common issue " no boot device found". So I went pooped in the restore CDs and reloaded the OS and went through and redid everything. " thought it fixed issue" shut down and reloaded os. With same msg " no boot device found" so i pressed F2 and choose boot proprity hard drive and then it loaded OS as if nothing happened. So i thought maybe my hard drive could have issues, Did harddrive all passed, So i think now that it could be my motherboard or the sata connecter?

Jun 28, 2009It all started with my pc restarting(it was a power failure) to show boot device failure, insert system disk, i tried everything, from unplugging usb devices to re inserting sata cables but to no avail, now when i try to reinstall windows the setup recognizes all my partitions but refuses to install into any of them, ubuntu only recognizes one of my hard disk and partition( i have 1 big 500 g hdd as 1 part, and 2 250 g hdds in raid 0).
I tried booting from my bart pe created windows live cds but they dont detect any partitions what so ever, windows 7 dvd's repair utility can access my file structure when i browse for drivers, but it wont repair the problem, nor will it install.

Jan 30, 2012My friend's desktop PC had this issue, it runs Win 7, is an HP and is just one year old. It either gives the "Unable to boot device error", or asks for the Windows CD that he doesn't have (bought it at a department store, it came with Win7 original installation but no CD). It doesn't open Windows. It still recognizes it as a hard drive in the BIOS screen, the startup order was never altered and should be Hard Drive then CD/DVD. Searching for a quick solution he found suggestions to try and change from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS and at last it got to Windows startup. Win7 in safe mode prompts him a repair mode that's going on for two hours.I downloaded the hard drive maker's tools for diagnostics (they're burnable on a cd) and will try them if this windows repair mode keeps going on indefinitely.
