View 1 Replies View RelatedI enabled the Admin account and wanted to set password but it put up a warning that doing this would erase all EFS encrypted files, personal certificates and stored passwords for web sites or network resources. To avoid losing data in the future ask the Admin to make a password reset floppy disk. What the heck does that all mean? Is there already one on it set up by default?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an external harddisk that is encrypted using TrueCrypt. Each time I plug it in Windows prompts me to format the disk because it doesn't have any recognizable file system. Vista didn't use to do this. I suppose it's because of the UAC changes and a user couldn't normally do this in Vista. How to disable this prompt in Windows 7?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm on a network where I keep my files but I'm very aware of whether or not these might be open elsewhere. From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.

When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried using WinZip, a friend said that it's possible to password protect a ZIP file but I am unable to do so. I don't like WinRar and 7Zip much for daily use, so I would like to have an alternative to password protect my folders/files.
I have heard and read about many 3rd party softwares, but all of them create a separate folder in which I have transfer the files, similar to a real life locker. But the kind of software I need is the one which has the ability to right click a folder/file and set a password, and whenever someone clicks on it, the password is asked.
I DO NOT want the folder/file to be invisible, I want it to be visible but protected by a password. built-in or a 3rd party software to do so? I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit).
When I try to open my 2010 Oulook the following window opens: Heading - "Outlook data file password." Message - "Type the password for [my e-mail address]" I cannot change any settings in Outlook, everything is blank except for the window described above. I have tried all the passwords I know I could have or usually use and nothing works. There is no option to type in a username. I do not use an exchage server, only the POP and SMTP settings. I have Windows 7 Pro 32 bit loaded with Office 2010 Home & Business.
