View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving upgraded my desktop PC to Office 2010, I need to import three seperate letter template files for use in Word. These were lost during the upgrade but are on my laptop, which still runs Office 2003, as .dot type files and I also have them copied to a memory stick. However, I am at a loss as to how and where to save them into the new programme on my desktop PC. If it makes a difference, I should add that I do not use Libraries and have disabled them.

I have tried all the fix options even called HP who told me that the circuits are dead (he didn't check anything as my printer is 4.5 years old) and offered to sell me a new model with a huge discount that was the exact price on their website. Anyway, my last option before buying a new printer is uninstalling and reinstaling my usb port. How do I know which port is which? Can it be the one called 'unknown port"?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer had been shut down for a few days. When I came back and booted back up, I noticed that AVG was no longer running. I couldn't seem to get it to start, so I tried uninstalling it since I had the 2012 version anyway, so I could update to 2013 and hopefully fix the problem. Every time I try to uninstall, I get a BSOD. Every time I try to install the new version, I also get a BSOD.
I haven't installed anything new or added new hardware, so the only thing I can think of is the latest AVG update did something. The last new program I installed was Guild Wars 2, but that was weeks ago (with no issues). At first I thought maybe this was a virus, but it looks like this is a common issue? Files attached.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had 32-bit Java already installed. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, so I figured I should get the 64-bit version of Java. Long story short, after all kinds of problems with installing and uninstalling, I'm stuck. No traces of Java show up anywhere in the add/remove Programs menu, and I can't find any leftover files anywhere, not even in the registry. I've used several different programs (JavaRa, Windows Install Clean Up, Microsoft FixIt, Revo Uninstaller) to try to locate any leftover files, and it's now to the point where none of them can find anything. When I try to reinstall Java, I get a window saying "This software is already installed, do you want to reinstall it?", and if I click yes, an error window pops up saying "This action can only be used on software already installed", or something close to that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine. Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI realize that this is not primarily a Windows7 problem, but it just bothered me to see one program stopping me from setting the file associations for another program. And I need to vent.I have been running both Libre Office (LO) and Open Office (OO) for months now, not a heavy user, just trying to keep both going while I figure which one I liked best. These apps share file extensions, and are very file compatible, and I had always been able to open the same document in either. Both families of programs pinned to the Start Menu had, for months, contained file history of many documents, some documents showing as history in both app-families, and able to be opened in either LO or OO. Yesterday, I upgraded Open Office. First thing I noticed, the LO apps pinned to the start menu had their document history icons changed to OO icons. Sure enough, these documents, in the history list of a pinned LO app, open in OO. Rats, I think--I guess I will have to re-assign the extensions to LO. No can do! I have never had this happen before, but I now when I use "Open With" on a file with the shared extensions, (.ods, .odt,...) then "Choose Default Programs...", then "browse" to set a new default, the LO app does not stick. So far, I am unable to set the file association to any of the LO apps.
I have occasionally seen software, usually pretty sleazy and undesirable software, that would hijack file associations, would take-over as much of the computer as possible. But at worst, they just made it inconvenient so that the user would have to go back and re-assign the desired apps. But I did not expect to see a professionally done app like Open Office to do this sort of thing without asking. And for sure, I did not expect to have an application block my ability to re-assign file extensions to to another app.
When I try to enter product key it states that it is an out of date version. Can Office 2007 still be loaded some way?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been running video since the old voodoo 3 cards, though technically it's been longer but I got my own computer when the voodoo 3's were out. =P Anyways, I've been working with drivers since then, and I usually update every time a new update comes out and never uninstall. Heck, I don't even re-boot after installing!
From my understanding, drivers are the same as kernel modules (, or at least what we talk about in our linux world). And so shouldn't they just work after loading? I mean in linux. Well lets say in linux removing driver's is a lot more of a pain than windows and so I really want to know what all the fuss is about.
But I can't find it anywhere that says exactly why you should do it, and if it's even worth doing. I've always seen it as a waste of time, and all the old files should be overwritten or cleaned out. Idk, I've just never ran into errors from just installing, I've never seen any real evidence that proves uninstalling has any gains.
When I installed a game from my purchased CD, iWin installed a manager to download games which I did not want. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently suffered from random shutdowns. We tried to debug it here in sevenforums and got to conclusion that the problem might be in my Nvidia drivers so now I'm in the process of uninstalling them completely and then re installing them.So I have downloaded driver fusion, but I'm also considering using this thread: How to: Remove your Nvidia GPU Drivers.Anyways, either way, the first part is to uninstall drivers from programs and features list. I had six Nvidia programs there. I started uninstalling them one by one. I got to graphics uninstalling part, and it required restarting the system. I clicked OK, but then my computer screen just went black, and I had to manually press the power button to shutdown my computer. ( Later I saw some tutorial which said you should uninstall everything except graphics program first, then uninstall the graphics program, so that might have caused the weird uninstall progress )
The whole uninstalling progress was weird. When I restarted my computer, I was in 640x480 resolution ( which is normal after uninstalling drivers? ) but the computer required restart of the system, so I went ahead and boom, it restarted with nvidia drivers on and with full resolution. I noticed, that the Nvidia drivers were older version, that I had updated from while ago. I did some research and found out this was quite normal that windows just rollbacked the drivers.Anyways I did this process so many times, that I got on the first nvidia drivers I've installed ( I guess ). Then I uninstalled them and it restarted without any Nvidia drivers in programs and features list, but I STILL HAD ALL THE FILES IN MY C: DRIVE. Also, the nvidia control panel didn't show up in taskbar as usual, but I could open it by typing it in Windows Start and clicking it. I tried to delete some Nvidia folder from C: but I couldn't because it was in use. It seems I have the oldest Nvidia drivers ever installed on this computer ( 301 sth. ). My screen is also in full resolution (ofc). How I can uninstall Nvidia, when it doesn't show up in programs and features list and start to delete the entries manually or with driver fusion?
I was wondering if i should uninstall these programs. I don't use them at all and I probably won't ever use them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have an ASUS K53E that I've put a 60GB SSD into. I recently had to send out the laptop for service with ASUS, but I swapped the SSD for the original drive at that time (to save the chance they may re-format the drive). In any case, their repair apparently included a BIOS update... When I got the computer back, I naturally swapped the SSD back into the computer. Since then I've had numerous issues, the most prominent being that WLE stopped working (Every time I load Messenger it inexplicably stops working), and when I attempt to un-install it it will have a problem and abort the removal. With skype, I installed it fine, but it will launch, have a problem, then close! This is extremely frustrating..So really, my first thought is that there is a BIOS-update related issue, because the BIOS was flashed with the other drive in the laptop, and the installation on the SSD was installed/configured before the BIOS flash.Am I looking at a clean install of windows? Or could I get away with just a repair? I'd really prefer not to reinstall if I don't have to (Getting the OEM install on the SSD was hard enough in the first place).
