No Sound Through Tv Via Hdmi / Sound Plays Through Laptop Speaker
Nov 29, 2012Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus. [code] I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

Dec 24, 2011My wife HP Pavilion DV6175ea laptop running windows 7 ultimate 32 bits was fine with the sound until a month ago. Note that upgraded from vista since the windows 7 launch. From that date till now it as no sound from the speakers but it is ok from the headphones. Tried different audio drivers but no results. Tried to insert and remove headphonde jack several times with no results.

Feb 20, 2009I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.
I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.
I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.

But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. Mar 5, 2012I used to be able to record sound. I used to have a vista system and was never able to record sound (what I you hear i.e. streaming sound) so as soon as I got my new windows 7 laptop it was the first thing I checked. I have selected the SoundMix as my default device, I did that when I first got the laptop and as I said I was able to record the streaming sound, now I cannot however and looking at the recording devices, everything is set to default and as the guide shows. I used Roemer software free HiQ recorder because it shows the levels when sound can be detected by the software (the left and right levels move up and down showing that sound is being detected) and nothing is showing there at all. The levels don't move. The built in sound recorder doesn't record anything either and the volume level box is completely empty.
Is their some other setting or properties that has some how switched off or muted or something? I have been through the RealTek HD Audio panel and tested everything. I do have sound, I can listen to music so its not like I have no sound entirely. Also I have an inbuilt microphone in the lid of the laptop and it's on. If I tap the mic hole on the lid you can hear it is on and the sound recorders don't record even the sound of my tapping the mic! Again, I used to be able to record sound and now I cannot! In the living room we have a desktop with the same sound card, RealTek HD Audio on Windows 7 and that records sound as well.

Jul 11, 2012My laptop (Hp Pavilion dvx4 1 1/2 years old) suddenly won't load Windows 7. It turns on, fan and DVD drive run but the mute and Internet icons on the keyboard remain red and there are two flashing lights on the keyboard (one beside the caps lock key and the other is above the scroll key). That's all it does. No beeps, sounds or cursor. I had noticed a problem with my sound on a couple web sites prior to this but no error messages ever displayed indicating any problems. I bought this laptop at Best Buys and they installed a recovery disc but other then that I don't have the original Windows 7 disc in order to try to boot from CD-rom.
