Is "clean" And "quick Format" Sufficient
Jan 6, 2012I'm sure i dont got any bad sectors, therefor is "clean" not "clean all" sufficient? with a quick format, to delete any malware/virus etc?... like a mbr virus..?

Quick Format Vs Full Format
Mar 2, 2010I am giving Fedora (Ext4) the boot from my 150G VelociRaptor and replacing it with Windows 7.What is the difference between a 'Quick' format and a 'Full' format. Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?

Jan 6, 2012I use a 1.5 year old aces aspire 5738z and I think it just died on me. Here is what happens. Whatever I do it cannot stay without a BSOD for more than 10 minutes. I tried reinstalling drivers and it did not change anything so I tried several things but finally just formated it and installed windows again. I actually got a BSOD while installing windows from an original CD so im pretty sure my problem is hardware related. I did a check of the ram with Memtest for approx 45 minutes (one full cycle) and found nothing. I did a quick test of the HD with an other program and it did not find anything either so im starting to think its the graphics card that is dying.

Jul 26, 2010Once you get to the Custom (Advanced) tab of Windows 7 clean install there are options to delete the partition, format, etc. Assuming I want to delete all of my partitions so that I have one large volume C: is it best to delete the partitions first and then format? Why would someone do one over the other (or both?) Right now I have a C: partition and a D:RECOVERY partition. I want to delete the D: partition and combine it to the C: partition.Don't they do the same thing? Why do you need to format after you delete a partition ? Do I also delete the C: partition and "re-create" it? What about the term "Unallocated Space"

Sep 14, 2010I am having real issues installing Windows 7, Home premium 64mb. Have formatted & clean installed it 6 times now. The PC is a new build so the HDD is fresh. It installs ok, then when asked I use my name as user name, Jon, cant type that wrong. I don't set a password just yet as I am the only user. Windows then takes me to a log in screen. I enter user name, wont let me in..!? Says incorrect password or user name!
I try to log in as Admin, I know now its disabled by default. I can get into Windows via the safe mode, so I used the command prompt to enable the Admin, yet when I went to log in as Admin, it was disabled! So I pretty much get locked out of my pc every time I install. Am I missing something simple? I cant find any answers except on how to switch on the Admin which didn't work...

Admin Has No Sufficient Privileges?
May 3, 2011A virus, downgraded all my Privileges even though I'm set as Administrator. In order to fix my computer, I first need to reset all Privileges back to their defaults. The first "solution" said to install "subinacl.msi", and then run a cmd batch that calls subinacl.exe. Problem here is that "subinacl.msi" attempts to install to the System32 folder... which I naturally no longer have permission to access. Catch-22.
The second "solution" said to use "Takeown" to retake ownership of specific files & folders. But I don't have "Permission" to run "Takeown" either from the CLI. The third "solution" says to create the "hidden" Administrator account via "net user administrator /active:yes", but (you guessed it), I don't have "permission" to do that either. How to get my permissions back?
Cannot Backup Don't Have Sufficient Space
Sep 11, 2012I have a Lenovo G580 - It comes with it's own OneKey Recovery system which doesn't work. But neither does Windows 7 recovery. When I try to back it up, it does but then it stops half way and says there is not enough space in the D drive to back-up. So I went into Disk Management and saw that it was limited to 25GB - So I tried to extend the volume but it has been greyed out so I cannot select it. What can I do? I can't back it up or anything!
