Hardware HD Acceleration Works Out Of The Box

I have onbored Intel GMA X4500HD which intel claims has hardware acceleration for HD movie playback.

I could never get this to work properly with vista even with the power dvd HD codec installed?

I also tried all the dodgy codec packs available (which in my experience courses more harm than good) in my quest for low cpu usage during 1080p or just any HD playback in general really. And although my monitor isn't even a HD monitor it's still above standard definition & I just like to know things are working as there advertised I guess? Plus I plan to get a HD monitor when my finances permit me to?

I also had this problem with my old pc with an ati card installed aswell.

Anyways I installed windows 7 & hardware acceleration works right out of the box, literally. No codecs & no messing about it just works as advertised. The codecs are there already & work as they should do for once. My cpu usage is down from 30/70% to 0/20% max now. It was 70/100% without any codecs & 30/70 was the best I could get with vista.

With Windows 7 Microsoft has really hit the nail on the head for me, so to speak. Bootup times are so fast & so far I haven't had to install a single codec for once.

It's like a refined vista with all the same features plus a few more just for good measure.

Hardware Acceleration
I recently changed my hardware acceleration and lowered it to the lowest option. Now I want to change it back to the original settings that it was on, how can I achieve that?

When I go back to screen resolution->advanced settings->trouble shoot the change settings button is not clickable, so therefore I cannot change the settings.

If there aren't any possible ways, is there any way I can just put my laptop screen back to default settings any thoughts?

Mouse Acceleration
I have been considering jumping to this OS on my new box I am building but one thing that is holding me back is the fact that I have yet to find a concrete way to remove mouse acceleration within the OS at the system level. Has anyone successfully removed the acceleration without using drivers or special mouse software?

Hardware Acceleration Error
I just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from XP. When I go to play Chess Titans, or any other OEM game on my computer, it gives me the following message:

"Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on"

How do I get to the setting on my video card to fix this? It says that all my drivers are installed correctly and are working fine. This is on a friends computer and i am stumped.

How To Lower Hardware Acceleration ?
Was just wondering how would I reduce hardware acceleration since there are no buttons and/or sliders in the DirectX Diagnostic tool.

Need it for an old game; NFS SE

The only way to get it work is if its on a FAT32 drive and the sound acceleration is turned to its lowest!

Its OK if there's not any way to do this, since I can just go over to XP to play!

And besides, I think there was no Hardware Acceleration control in Vista as well, right?

Disable Mouse Acceleration
Does anyone know of anything that will fully disable mouse acceleration in W7? Turning the "precision" off in CPanel, and setting up Mouse keys to change the accelerate rates does not fully disable acceleration in all games. I have a g5 mouse and have tried using set-point to override the O/S, but that still does not fully disable it in all games.

Direct3d Acceleration Problem
I just installed 64-bit Windows 7 RC and got it up and running without problems. But when I tried to run Command & Conquer: Tiberium wars I faced the following error message:

"Please make sure that you have DirectX 9.0 or higher installed. Also verify that your vide card meets the minimum requirements, and that you do not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel."

I also had similar problem with Neverwinter Nights 2. The error message was (roughly) "Could not detect hardware acceleration".

I installed the latest drivers (Catalyst 9.5 for 64-bit Windows 7) and system information shows hardware correctly and in dxdiag my directx version seems to be DX 11 (I have already updated it). I have two ATI HD 4850s in crossfirex. So everything seems to be fine.

I also tried running them in both administrator mode and compatibility mode (didn't solve the problem). If any additional information is needed I'll provide it.

Cannot Edit Hardware Acceleration (no Support)
I have an ATi Radeon 2600XT and I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 bit.

When I go to hardware acceleration (Display > Resolution > Advanced - not sure of the exact steps but been there several times), the "Troubleshoot" button, from where the hardware acceleration settings can be modified, is greyed out.

This is a common problem it seems, but I cannot solve this. I am running the latest CCC drivers from ATi.

To make things even more confusing, I used to run VMWare Workstation 6.5 and Windows Server 2008 R2. I could happily adjust the hardware acceleration setttings (had not updated the ATi drivers but VMWare uses its own display drivers). I then got VMWare Workstation 7.0 and I could not adjust hardware acceleration.

Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Hardware Acceleration - Good Or Bad?
I tried to test Windows 7 64-bit on VirtualBox 3.0.4 but Vbox told me that I need to turn hardware acceleration on in the BIOS.. I currently have a Dell M1530 Windows 7 32-bit.

1. Why isn't this on in the first place?

2. What are the pros and cons of having it enabled?

3. Will it make by laptop hotter/slower?

Is Media Player Using Hardware Acceleration ?
Normally I run my HD movies in MPC-HC and have it use my 8800GT to decode the movies so my processor is available for other things.

I tried running an HD movie in Windows Media Player and saw that the CPU usage was less than 2%. Same movie in VLC takes 16%

So it looks like it's indeed using hardware acceleration. But now I'm not sure if that's srandard or a side effect of using MPC-HC

Win 7 Freezes With Graphic Acceleration
I'm testing the Windows 7 beta and I'm having problems with my graphics card, system hard freezes and requires reset button to continue. Upon reboot, if I disable graphics driver and run in vga mode these hard freezes no longer occur. But the trade-off is that I have no 3d acceleration, can't play any games.

I have tried ati's catalyst 8.x for vista and 9.x for vista as well as the beta release for
Win 7, all drivers load and appear to work but system will freeze when 3d acceleration occurs,
ie when games load. I have a mobile hard drive tray installed to easily switch out hard drives and this only occurs when using the Windows 7 installation,

I also have Win xp and and Win 2000 on other hard drives and the graphics work properly with the other systems(same configuration just different os with their respective drivers). I can't help but think it is a driver issue with win 7 and my graphics card. Below is detail from the dxdiag report. Any suggestions?

Possible To Disable Hardware Sound Acceleration ?
I get a constant buzzing sound, especially when I play WOW. I was told to change my sound acceleration to standard, or even turn it off completely, to eliminate the buzzing. I can't seem to figure out how to edit it though, since when I run the dxdiag there is no slider that comes up to adjust anything.

Mouse Acceleration - Not Enhance Pointer Precision
I know this is a very popular topic dating back to when Mouse Acceleration was first introduced in WindowsXP. There are registry fixes for both XP and Vista but I was wondering if Microsoft had any insight to this issue.

Disabling "Enhance Pointer Precision" in the Mouse options through the Control Panel does not completely remove mouse acceleration for many games (Counter-Strike, etc). I'm not sure why Microsoft keeps pushing this 'enhancement' since gamers have been complaining about it for ~8 years but nevertheless, it's still around.

I have an old Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 and I'm not about to go spend upwards of $50 for a new mouse that has drivers capable of removing this annoyance when I have a perfectly capable mouse already.

There has to be some type of registry work around to completely remove Mouse Acceleration from Windows 7, like there was for XP / Vista.

Can someone please tell me what I need to change / remove from Windows 7 to COMPLETELY disable this setting (not sure why "Enhance Pointer Precision" doesn't completely disable it from even existing on Windows).

H.264 Hardware Acceleration And Ati Video Cards
I'm using an ati 4870 and a hauppauge HVR-2200 tuner card to watch New Zealand freeview (h.264). The high definition channels - tv 1, 2 and 3 and the HD preview channel - are working somewhat ok (though with some issues of stuttery playback especially after changing channels, although this is relatively minor). However, the remainder of the channels fail to play back properly.

My tuner card finds them fine, and when I try and watch them I get the audio tracks fine also. However, the video is always incredibly stuttery and full of artifacts and is often predominantly green. It's not at all watchable.

I've heard that this is a recurring problem for people trying to watch hardware decoded h.264 on an ATI graphics card on any operating system.

So my question is this: Has anyone found a solution? Is there a way to tell media center not to use hardware decoding and use software decoding instead?

Unable To Detect A Video Card With Hardware Acceleration
I've been slowly working my way through my games collection, testing for compatibility. The stumbling block so far is Neverwinter Nights 2 - I get the following error when trying to run:

Unable to detect a video card with hardware 3Dacceleration.
Neverwinter Nights 2 requires a video card that supports then please make sure that it's enabled.

The support forums over at Obsidian have found a work-around - replacing the dxdiagn.dll file in the current DirectX release with the earlier version from Vista (v 5.03.2600.2180). Obviously this isn't exactly testing the Release candidate, so is there a 'fix' in the works and will it be obtainable through the Windows Update?

Apparently things were fine up til Beta build 7057 - before that the game ran happily. A mention is made of a fix in Build 7122 - will this fix be downloadable or will we have to wait until the final release, or apply the hack above?

(RC) Cannot Access Network Drive Box
the problem is that i cannot access, or even see for that matter, the D-link DNS 323 network-attached storage device that i set up a while ago. Normally i would begin by looking for general Win7 work-around/solutions.

However, the strange thing is there is another Win 7 computer in the house (Toshiba Sattelite) that can access the device adn all its volumes perfectly. i'm not entirely sure what is wrong with my system. I've recently updated my network controller mini-port with vista 32bit driver is hopes of remedying the problem without any success. I'm completely lost at what to even look at by this point.

Setup1.box - Unspecified Error
I downloaded the .exe for 7 Home Premium from the UK Ultimate Steal site. It says it's preparing setup1.box, but eventually it gives me an error message saying "Unspecified Error".

The .iso is equally annoying, I burned it to a DVD and tried to get my laptop to boot from the DVD drive. It waited a moment and then booted from the hard drive. I burned to a different DVD and attempted to boot from DVD drive, it did the same. I then tried to boot a DVD containing Ubuntu. This booted perfectly fine.

Errors Whenever Dialog Box For Open/save
Whenever (about 50% of the time) I use a program that'll eventually pop up a SAVE/OPEN dialog box (file explorer?). This could be ADOBE, or IE8 when I want to save a picture, or anything that'll prompt me to open a file or save a file, whenever the file explorer comes up it'll start to lag, then hang and then not respond and I have to close and restart.

Is it a windows explorer or file explorer problem? It happens on several of the computers/laptops I have the RC installed on.
