Freeze Upon Loading Up From Shut Down?
Dec 8, 2012
I may have selected the wrong section for this and if so, I appologize. My system loads up after a reboot/shut down and then about 30 seconds or so after it loads up, will not respond to commands. This lasts for a few seconds and then everything I click during the *frozen period* happens all at once.Mouse seems to be working/moving across screen, just what I asked it to do, it doesn't do.I"m ttrying to track down what is going on during that time frame that causes this odd freeze (for want of a better word). Is there something out there for novices that might

1) As I'm on a laptop, my power settings are set to balanced. The system turns off the screen after 10 minutes of inactivity (the default setting). When I touch the pad to turn the screen back on, Windows freezes. I'll have to do ALT CTRL Delete to bring up the log-out menu and sign back in again. After I sign back in, Windows work normally. The only way around this I found is to manually change the power settings to prevent the screen from turning off altogether. Is this a known issue?
2) When I put my system to sleep, I find that it will turn on by itself and then shut itself off again. I think this may be related to automatic update at a given time. It happens at night. The system would just turn on and after 20 seconds or so shut itself down.

When I try to boot it gets stuck at the windows 7 loading screen with the Windows logo blinking like usual loading. Tried leaving it on for 30 minutes, nothing happened. Safe mode gets to the loading windows files part and freezes there.First I attempted to use the System Recovery CD it kept on till the loading screen then freezed just like the OS boot. Same thing with installation disk.I don't know how they work, if one or them are the primary stick or whatever. I tried swapping them, still same problem.Hard disk works just fine connected to my other computer as slave.
Got some of the boot cd programs to work --
Mem86
Windows Memory Diagnostics
HDDUM SMART viewer
Seagate SeaTools
All passed.
So nothing is wrong with my RAM or hard drive?Today, Saturday, I transferred the stuff worth keeping on this disk, and reformatted it. Still same problem when I boot the installation CD!

One particular site that is not loading at all, on any browsers on my computer is [URL]. There are many more that fail to load as well. I did test these sites on my iPhone with no problems though. There are a handful of other sites that do open but do not load properly [missing images, ect.] I also thought that it might be malware but I installed & scanned my computer with four different programs which did not solve the problem. I'm guessing that it still may be some problem on the software side with settings but I can't seem to figure out where to look. BTW, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program for the past couple of days now. Prior to that I was using Avira but it seemed to be giving me problems so I uninstalled it and installed the Microsoft app.

I own a DCP UPS, and it's been with me for 2.5 years now. Recently (this happened twice) whenever the power shuts down, the UPS makes a screeching noise every 2 seconds (compared with every 5 seconds earlier), the orange battery light flickers on and off, and five seconds later, it shuts down with the computer after the orange light turns red (indicating an emergency). However, when I switched on the UPS, waited for two minutes, then WITHOUT switching on the computer shut the power off, it reacts normally (ie turns to battery power without a hitch). So does this mean that it is unable to bear battery power while the computer is on? And if so, does this mean that I should discard this one and get it replaced? And another final thing - until I do so, should I disconnect this one from the PC in case it may adversely affect the power supply of the CPU?

I'm running on a Windows 7 32 bit system, self built. Before I go into explain all of the details, here are my computer specs..My computer has been crashing a lot recently. It never use to happen, it just started within the past month or so. It's not a BSOD, there's no error, no warning.. Just black. When I start up, it's like nothing ever happened. But it's really annoying, whenever I begin to render a video, it crashes almost every time. It also stopped a few times while I was trying to play games and record, but I have recorded in the past. My computer use to be at it's prime but I don't know what changed. I could really use some advice to fix this. Any suggestions would help, I'm really wanting to render up all the footage I have.I do a lot of video game recording on my PC, I use the program bandicam. Also, my PC doesn't seem to be suffering from overheating, as the hard drive stays cool when it crashes.I keep about 50gb free space open on my computer to avoid extra errors.

I have been receiving is that, whenever I try to shut down my computer, it will go to the 'shutting down' screen as usual, bu the shutting down would stay there forever, and does not do anything. This results into shutting down the computer manually by pressing the power button on the CPU. It is very frustrating because when this occurs, it gives off further errors and computer becomes abit unstable. The next time I had logged in (today) I received the folliwing message upon windows starting up. This message happens to ocur after the pc was shut down manually.

My computer shuts down a lot all by it's self and sometimes shutdowns with a Blue Screen of Death. When it usually shuts down by itself it reboots and it tells me that my computer has failed to start so I choose Start Windows Normally then when the Starting Windows Screen comes up my computer gets a differnet Blue Screen of Death. I am not sure what it says when that comes up because it reboots itself after 1 second. I will list the errors and my computer information down below. I get really stressed out over this.

PC is a Gateway FX series specs:Windows 7 64-bit (upgrade CD from Vista)
Intel i7 950
GeForce GTX 285
8gb RAM
Avast! free home virus
The issue is that any time I play ANY game, when I try to shut down the computer, it stays at the "Shutting Down" phase forever and then after 15-20+ min, sometimes it re-starts itself. Of note, is that when this happens and I manually shut the computer off, and turn it back on I get a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. and the error ID is BlueScreen-something.
This does NOT occur when I use the PC for anything else such as browsing the internet. No matter what game it is, any time I play a game (not counting minesweeper, solitaire, etc), the computer will not shut down. All drivers seem to be up to date. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

While waiting for my new netword card, I was using a USB cable to operate my temporary cable modem (Motrola Surfboard). I installed the drivers right from the CD and it worked well for a day or so until it randomly stopped working. I also couldn't shut down the computer as it would just hang there but I was able to shut down just fine the day before (With the Surfboard plugged in).Now that I have my new NIC installed, I can browse just fine, but I'm unable to shut down without it restarting on me. Meaning I have to hold the power button.I'm using my old cable modem and connected via ethernet. Also, I'm using a new keyboard which is also connected via USB.

I have Win 7 64-bit on my new system, and I've noticed that the HDD LED constantly chatters. It never goes even a second without some disk activity.
I can't compare this to XP, because my XP machine doesn't have an HDD LED (or it's broken, or it's not wired, whatever). My XP HDD is 8 years old and still going strong, though; and that's the sort of reliability I'd like in my new system. That's 8 years of almost 24/7.
In the Win 7 resource monitor, there's usually a bunch of processes using the disk; but if I remain quiet, the long term steady state comes down to NLS and System processes. I can (and may) disable NLS, but I can't disable System. If I suspend NLS when System is the only other process shown, then the disk usage graph clears, but the HDD LED flickering continues. If I suspend System, the LED flickering stops, but then I suffer the predictable consequences.
Not entirely related, I also noticed that early on, for the first several minutes after boot, I get a considerable number of page faults. Seems kind of silly since my RAM usage never goes over 15%, but it's not problematic. The page faults do cease eventually.
My questions are these:
1. Is this constant chatter a Win 7 thing, or does XP do this also?
2. Does anyone have insight as to why the System process would be constantly accessing the HDD and/or how I can stop it from doing so?
3. Since the I/O graph may be cleared (with patience), even though the LED activity continues, is it reasonable to believe that the LED activity is just a tease and no actual I/O is happening at that time?

I recently purchased a ssd and I was curious if there was a way to have my computer automatically shut down after so many minutes of non use? From what I've read I could schedule it in the task scheduler, but I'm not looking for a certain time for it to shut down. Maybe a third party program?

I recently built a Mictro-ATX HTPC with these specs:ASRock H61M-GE mobointel g530 cpu (dual core, 2.4 ghz)4 GB G.Skill DDR3-1333450W FSP brand PSUWD HDD, HP CD/DVD-writer(total: $405 with nMediaPC case, if anyone was curious)The problem is with shutting down. When I press shutdown through the OS, the monitor loses input and goes to sleep, but the PC doesn't power off (case and CPU fans, CD-ROM, power LED, etc. all stay on). Oddly, atleast I think, is that sleep mode works fine! In sleep, the fans shutdown and the power LED blinks like it's supposed to...] M-GE&o=All and will try to update the ME; just a shot in the dark really. I don't know what it does. I don't know what the AXTU is either. Also of interest, while searching for a solution, I noticed that the download page for another mobo by ASRock has a patch to "Modify system can not shut down issue." Maybe a similar issue exists for my mobo but just hasn't been patched yet? I'll call ASRock tomorrow.
