View 1 RepliesI would like to have the Live Messenger and Skype icons into the 'Hidden icons' box (Windows 7), so I don't have them displayed all the time in the task bar.If I use the "Customize" -> "Select which icons and notifications appear on the taskbar" option, there are many programas which I can configure, but I can't find Live Messenger and Skype there to be added.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAt some point yesterday all my icons where invisible when looking at the desktop. But when browsing trough it with explorer I can find back to them, or show all stuff at my desktop. But not without doing it trough explorer. The right-click menu still works, and I can change desktop-wall and stuff. Also tried changing back to default theme, and removing My Computer and taking it back. But nothing seems to fix it :S Also tried several reboots, but still no icons show.Tried adding another user, and guess what, he got desktop icons! So there need to be something I have turned off etc.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just updated my windows. Unfortunately, when I did that, something strange happened. Now I cannot right click or delete icons on my desktop. When I right click on an icon on the desktop, I have less choices than normal (cannot rename, deletesee properties, ect). I cannot see anything in my control panel, my computer folder shows up, however there are no words, just pictures.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows Updates recently automatically installed two .NET 4 updates. Almost immediately my system began misbehaving: my Firefox Booksmarks toolbar disappeared along with all the bookmarks it held, the shutdown/sleep/lock/logoff button in the start menu changed selection each time the Start menu was opened, desktop icons moved and/or disappeared each time the desktop was opened.
I uninstalled the two updates (Kb2468871 and Kb 2533523) and the system returned to normal.
I hid those 2 updates and changed my update setting to "notify but don't download" so MS doesn't install .NET updates I didn't know about BUT I am concerned that those 2 updates are still stored in my system.
I know that Windows stores updates in C:WindowsSoftware DistributionDownload. My dilemma is that there are more than 30 folders/files stored there and I can determine the contents of only the 2 folders. I can't open the files so I don't know which of them to delete to remove the .NET 4 updates. I've been installing MSE updates manually for the past week.
How can I clear my system of those 2 hidden .NET updates?
I have windows 7 64 and in my hotmail there are email accounts that I can't delete. They must be spam placed there from a website I visited. When I click on CC, they show up in the list, but when I go to manage my contacts, they are not there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have enabled the hidden admin account in windows 7 and I picked up a virus...it won't let me do nothing...I have tried installing antivirus but it keeps giving me an error message that says the application I am trying to open is infected and it won't open it....
now I can log into the other account and work fine, however these accounts do no admin priviledges!
so my question is can I delete the current hidden admin acct and recreate a new one? or is there anyway around my problem, basically how I can I restore the account back to normal.
The little popup box in the tray that comes up when you hit the up arrow (to "Show hidden icons") is bugging me. It seems to have a timer built in that hides it a couple seconds after you click on one of the icons inside. This really bugs me. I would prefer that it either hide itself immediately after I click on one of the icons (but not if I right click one, obviously) or else lets me hide it by clicking directly on it somewhere. I know I can hide it by clicking on the arrow again, but some of my tray applications (namely my Portable Apps Launcher) minimize again if I click that arrow, leaving me with no other option than to wait for that annoying box to hide itself and get out of the way.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an icon on my Win7Pro desktop that cannot be deleted, changed, or anything. I believe it was originally connected to a pdf file that I downloaded (from a reputable site) but the download was interrupted. It's file name is simply Donor.
When I try to delete it I get a flash screen that states: Could not find this item. This is no longer located (in desktop location). Verify the item's location and try again.
I cannot rename the file. It's properties shows that it is on the desktop but has 0 bytes.
I have tried about a gazillion things to no avail, including: Searched the registry for any entry that matches Donor, with nothing found. Booted into safe mode and tried from there with no luck, still won't delete. I am using full Kaspersky and a complete system sweep shows no malware, virus, etc. Found some sites that gave some script for trying to remove such files via the CMD prompt, but result always was that the file does not exist.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI accidently unzipped a folder to the desktop so the zipped contents were placed on the desktop instead of into a folder like I intended to do. I just selected them all and deleted them and did it into a folder but three icons from the files are left and they cannot be deleted.
This is message I get when I try to delete them "This is no longer located in C:UsersMeDesktop. Verify the items location and try again".I have tried renaming to delete and I get the same does not exist message. The files are 0 bytes in size and are blank icons like a piece of paper with the upper right corner folded down. In properties it says they are a "File (.)" and opens with Windows Shell Command. The unzipped contents were for making a boot CD for a password reset tool.
icon like the Excel I have, no icon appear and all I see is white with its file name "file.xls" as example. I have my Microsoft Office properly installed and when I double click it, it normally opens the file. I also restarted my pc many times but still no excel icon. All I want to fix is that why there's no excel icon.

I was experimenting with DPI Scaling and changed from 125% to 150%. Didn't like that so returned to 125% and when I returned to the desktop, all of the program icons had a generic icon that appears to be overlaid. Haven't been able to find anything to return the icons to normal.
Looks like this: Would like to go back to the program icons.
