View 2 Repliesi am trying to connect my xbox 360 as an extender. i get all the way through the setup and it fails at the last step. i have gone into my firewall and the media extender is ticked to allow. i have also manually set up rules to allow all the ports i found on the microsoft site to be allowed. lastly, i tried the microsoft fix it tool on the microsoft support site. i have run out of ideas. the xbox is definitely on the same network as me, it can see my laptop and also my iomega iconnect when i go into setting and network connections. it tests positively when i test the network connection, but fails when i test the media centre connection.
i have gone through the setup 3 times now (i.e. reset the connection and put in another 8 digit code to set up) but still no luck.
My computer info:
Toshiba protege m750 S7212
Windows 7 Ultimate
Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHZ 2.40 GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB (2.87 usable)

I can not get my Windows Media Center to connect to my xbox as an extender. I decided to attempt to use another computer to connect and as soon as WMC opened up it ask if I wanted to connect my xbox 360 as extender, which worked. That computer was a new Dell laptop. I haven't been able to set my Xbox 360 up as an extender to my Toshiba, with both the new sleek black one with the built in wifi, or the older 360 I had. This tells me 1: It is not my Xbox. 2: It is probably not my router settings. 3. Its a computer specific problem. When I search for my xbox as an extender on the Toshiba it Can't get past "configuring device". But I can see the xbox from Toshiba under the network window in explorer as a media device. My WMC runs fine. I haven't actually tried to use for anything other than adding my xbox as an extender but it does not crash. My xbox is not now or previously set up with another device before my Dell computer attempt.
Things I've tried: Every setting possible for two different routers I've owned that both boast media center compatibility (which is true for the Dell). All the port forwarding and opening and even putting my xbox into the DMZ. DO NOT TELL ME TO GO TO A SITE ABOUT ROUTER SETTINGS.
Uninstalling WMC by turning it off and on as a windows feature via the programs and features menu. Turning my firewall completely off to update and connect to Xbox Direct connecting both computer and xbox to router. Updating all my drivers. "Download now" option under WMC general settings to try and the most recent update.
command prompt: sfc /scannow. Everything came back verified. Create another user account with admin rights.
Both the Dell and my Toshiba are the most recent version of WMC: 6.1.7601.17541 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850). The only feature the Dell has that I don't is "Cyberlink Power DVD" which might be a Delly only feature. Both computers have the same setting on the router as well. My computer wasn't able to use the last cisco one to add the xbox and now we have a d-link DIR-685. With updated firmware. All my drivers are updated except for the PCI Simple Communications Controller which I tried an automatic and manual update through the intel set. And the AYGOK82A IDE Controller driver which didnt even show up after a web search.
I have my XBOX 360 connected via ethernet cable and often times when I attempt to view Live TV or play a recorded show through the XBOX, it crashes the computer.
I have 64 Bit Windows 7, 4 GB RAM, 2.8 GHz quad core, 1 GB XFX Radeon HD 5670, and use the AVerMedia A188 PCIe Pure ATSC TV Tuner. I've even gone as far as reinstalling Windows 7 with the thought that it might be a 3rd party software issue to no avail.
It does work about 70% of the time, but its really annoying waiting for the computer to restart. Why does this keep happening and what can I do to fix it?
I have searched and trauled the web and this website for answers and this site seems to have some pretty good responses so i thought i would post here. (I have also made a post on Shark007 fourms)
I run windows 7 ultimate 64bit on Intel quad core, 2gb ram with nvidia geforce 9600gt. Starting out with no idea what to do, after a some fiddling and searching i have now got both shark's codecs installed (normal and x64bit) and can run some MKVs through Windows media center using my 360 as an extender.
However, on about half of my MKV files i get the error message:
"The file type is not recognized and cannot be played. Either the correct coded is not installed or the file is corrupt" when trying to play on the xbox360. These same files play fine on Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player on the PC however.
I have tried various settings and also divx and CCCP codecs packs with the same result, (although i had to change some stuff in regedit to get MKV to show up on the xbox using divx) If you need any more information feel free to ask. Edit: I have noticed using sharks analyze function that the MKV which play are: "Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames" and the ones which do not work are "Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames"
When playing video via my xbox 360 extender the picture stutters almost like it's dropping some frames and the sound is unaffected but the same video playes just fine on media center via PC.Both wireless and wired connection with no difference, It's wired at the moment on a 15m / 50ft cable gone to tune network on the xbox 360 media center extender and all is good full bars all the way to the end of HD.Installed shark007 codecs pack v367 and the 64 bit components v367/I have sat and watched the PC performance in task manager whilst streaming to the xbox and don't think there was a problem there, The CPU stayed at a steady 8-12% but peaked at 30% when ever a stutter happened and the ram was a constant 55% with no change. In the networking tab usage never went above 12%.The video file I'm trying to play is AVI, Data Rate 1523, Bitrate 1653, 25 FPS thats all i can tell you i dont really know anything about video formats.PC spec is not fantastic but should be fine to stream to one extender my friend manages with a very old xp pc with only 512mb ram but he uses tversity.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for one video codec and package that will play nicely on Windows 7 Media Center, Zune, and the Xbox 360 extender. I have original DVDs, and I'm able to convert them to whatever.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI setup the windows media center extender and it works fine. But my issue is with my Computer. My proccessor is maxxing out whenever the process for the Media Center Network is running. The only solution i have found is to end the process manually. But it will randomly re open the process on it own and cause my proccessor to max out and use about 3/4ths of my RAM. It still re opens the process even when my 360 is shutdown and media center is not be used on the PC
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed and re-installed the XBOX 360 Media Center Extender to many times to count. Each time I install it the thing fails - absolutely will not connect with my Xbox. The _only_ way I can get it to work is to disable the Windows Firewall. Probably not the ideal thing to do.
Is there a way I can keep Windows Firewall enabled? Some of the tutorials out there say to add an exception for "Media Center Extenders", but nowhere do I see this within the settings. My system, BTW, is Windows 7 Ultimate.
Additionally, I should add that I'm hooked up wirelessly from both machines (PC and Xbox). When I connect the Xbox (when the firewall is disabled) I find the browsing is painfully slow. Any workarounds for that as well?
My router is a Belkin Wireless N router. My PC is connected wirelessly to the network. The Xbox is connected via ethernet. I have Windows Firewall completely off and no other firewall installed. In the network map, I can see the Xbox 360. I can see my Xbox and it can see my PC. But they will not link together completely.
I can use get it to work if I have my computer wired to the router. The only problem is trying to go wireless. I go through the setup to get to add extender and get the 8 digit code. I put it in and it goes to the "configuring computer settings" and then times out saying "cannot setup extender". When I go to the online section it only tells me to enable UPnP setting which is already enabled.
what do I need to install to get my xbox 360 extender to be able to fast forward and rewind my mp4 files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy xbox has been connected as a media center extender to this computer and router combination for several months now. The router is a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH. Earlier this week the media center extender was having trouble playing back video. After a restart of the computer the extender was no longer connected. When I try to add a new extender I get the message "Cannot add extender". Microsoft says to enable upnp and multicast. Check. Reflashed firmware to dd-wrt. No luck. Flash back to buffalo firmware. No luck. Try an old Linksys WRT54GL I have lying around. No Luck. The event logger has this error: "Media Center Extender Setup failed as the Extender was detected on the network but the UPnP search for the Extender failed (timed out after 20000ms)." Event ID: 538 Now I've done everything I could find about enabling network discovery, allowing anything to access media and such. Network and sharing is set pretty much wide open. I've also tried switching between home and work networks. With that said, I decided to check and see what updates have been installed. It turns out that an update was applied on the day I started having problems. It says it cannot be uninstalled. Description of the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software feature update Note: I do not have system restore points. Small SSD and didn't take the time to figure out how to save them elsewhere.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a Media Center server as a centralised location for all my media including broadcast and satelite TV. I view / play media using Xbox 360's as Media Center extenders. The setup was straight forward and works really well across my network. However I have one issue that I can not resolve.
Any items that have been recorded on the composite video input (satelite TV) of the TV tuner card in my Media Center server are in 4:3 aspect, but only when watched via xbox. If I watch these recordings directly on the Media Center server, they are in the correct 16:9 format. Xbox squashes the picture and puts black lines down either side of the picture. It does the same thing if you watch live TV from this composite video input. Digital TV inputs work fine.
Perhaps this is related to the file format used by Windows 7 - WTV, which from what I have read seems to have additional information embedded.
I have been tearing my hair out for 2 days now trying to figure this out. All I want to do is connect my xbox 360 in my living room to my xbox through Media Center and watch some movies on my computer on my living room TV. But it simply is not working. I get the error "Cannot Set up Extender" every single time i input the code into my computer that my xbox gave me. But, my dad's computer (windows 7 ultimate x86, connected to the network with ethernet JUST LIKE ME) works perfectly fine and connects instantly. And so does my netbook with the same OS but on wifi, I have been doing everything that google has been telling me through my search results. I have so far narrowed it down to a problem with my computer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 4 port generic usb hub which I have connected to my computer through a 15ft usb extender (PC on a different floor then monitor). Now when I connect through the USB extender windows 7 does not pick up the driver and gives me a code 43 error, but if I connect the usb hub directly to my computer (not through the usb extender) the driver is found and installed. I cannot see why the USB extender causes windows 7 not to find the driver or show a code 43.

I've been at it all morning, so I'm popping out for a bit to calm down But will start again later. Are there any connectivity issues with the Home Hub 3.0 ? UPnP is enabled.
Can't connect my Xbox to my router.I've just brought a new router. It is a Tenda W311R Wireless N Cable DSL Broadband Router. But I can't connect it to my Xbox 360 S.I've managed to add my PC, Laptop, and PS3 to my home network without any difficulty however.I've encrypted my home network with WPA2 as recommended by Microsoft. These are the steps I took when trying to add my xbox 360 S console to my home network:
1. On the console I went to My Xbox
2. Then System Settings.
3. Network Settings
4. Scan for Networks
4. My router was listed so I selected it
5. I then entered my WPA2 wireless password
6. Then I selected Test Xbox Live Connection.
The console then said it couldn't connect to my wireless network. I was thinking that the Xbox 360 S console's built-in Wi-Fi uses the 2.4 gigahertz frequency band. Maybe my router is broadcasting using another frequency... But I have yet to check what that frequency is.
i'm trying to connect my Xbox to my Windows 7 laptop and then to the internet via dongle, i had this set up on my old Windows Vista laptop and it worked ok.My windows 7 laptop is seeing my Xbox but the Xbox can't find my laptop! very fustrating! When i run network diagnosis it comes up with IP addess disabled?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSimply discribed: Can't establish a connection from my xbox360 to my PC. I'ts a direct connection and it should work like: xbox->PC->Gateway->Internet
I got it connected directly to the pc on Connection 1. On connection 2 is the gateway.
In the network sharing center the xbox on connection 1 is marked as "unidentified network". When I go to advanced sharing center, and check the full map of my connection 1 it shows me 1 hub, my PC and the XBOX!!
But, when I move over the XBOX with the pointer it says : IPv4 address: 0.0.0.0 and a MAC address which seems to be configured.
Well....I'm not even able to establish any connection from my XBOX to the PC. It simply says that its not connected to a PC or hasn't got a IP address from the PC.
I hope that some of you guys can help me out with this mess, I googled around the web and found no concrete solution to this problem.
btw, I'm using up to date nforce controllers, and Windows 7 64bit.
I recently activated internet at home. We are using a modem in which through my lap top i use wirelessly. Through my boyfriends desktop he bought a wireless adapter to connect wirelessly as well.I have no problems sharing anything on my laptop to the xbox or etc considering i have a homegroup option that allows me to do so..My boyfriend wants to share his music files plus etc to our xbox located in the living room.(his computer is in another room.)

I can use other software etc like orb but i don't want to have to install yet more software on the HTPC when surely all it needs is built into MC

I've been using the 360 as an extender to play mkv files mostly fine. However larger mkv files with ac3 audio stutter and don't play correctly at all. Files with DTS play fine however.
I started off only using the DivX mkv tech preview, with ac3filter. I've tried various other combinations since to no avail, at the moment I'm on a clean install with the 2 mentioned above and the shark007 pack.
Any ideas?
I downloaded the WMPTagSupportExtender.1.4.msi file and it installs fine, but when I use WMP, it doesn't seem to do anything. I hear that using this allows WMP to play .flac files along with the Win7Codecs, but nothing's happening. Am I supposed to enable something? If so, how do I do it?

I believe that I have both computer setup to share all files. I can go to no 2 and add libraries that on no 1 but nothing shows up on no 2. I am about ready to throw a computer and the other equipment I bought for in the trash. Just about any thing I do screws up. Every can that I guess Can not spell or write in good English.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running Vista 64 sp1 about a year, and using my xbox 360 as an media center extender, hard wired. Its been mainly for pictures and music as we all know it's picky when it comes to video. It's been swell, no hickups at all. All this time, I've had a hauppage HVR4000 installed but not ever in use. Since all i have is analouge cable for TV-signal, I didn't have much use for it anyway, as WMC as of sp1 didn't support this type of signal.
A few weeks back I discovered TVPack2008, and suddenly realized I could put my HVR4000 to some good use. Since this update was OEM only, I had to find a rouge copy of the installer. Voila, analouge cable TV-playback on my 'puter.
Here my sorrows start:
Streaming to MCE (360) now only produced video or audio errors, saying I had to restart the extender. Pictures could still be viewed, but all video/audio nomatter what filetype, would no longer work.
So in my last desperate effort to get it to work again, I installed win 7 64, and was hoping for a change of luck. Same symptoms, different error message: "MCE cannot find the file you are trying to play". Pictures can still be viewed as before. The files are stored in default folders, and they are not corrupted. Streaming to dashboard works fine, both audio and video.
Also the "Play To"-functionality is not working, giving me error codes 0X80040369, UPnP-error 705, saying "cannot control the device".
What I've tried so far without luck:
-Updating firware on my D-link N router
-wiping the Xbox 360 harddrive and running intial setup
-opening up required ports on firewall (although I've read this doesn't do anything for devices on the same network)
-uninstalling hauppage drivers when using vista64 sp1.
My win 7 install is clean, no codec packs or funny stuff.
Anyone experiencing similar things? Or better, could give me some pointers to how to fix it?
After entering the 8 digit code on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC in the extender setup, I get the "Configuration Error" "An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender.".
Happens every time the same way. Each failed attempted causes two event log entries below. Interestingly, immediately after the failed attempt - the "Media Center Extender Service" service gets disabled. It is running under the "Local Service" account. I can set it to "automatic start", and then re-start the service, but as soon as I go through the Extender Setup, and it fails, the service is disabled again, with the two event log entries..
I have WMC set up with an extender to launch XBMC. Alls great when I launch XBMC; WMC closes, I see the Windows 7 desktop, then XBMC loads. I can watch whatever. When I'm done, I exit out of XBMC. It goes back to the desktop, and then WMC loads up again. But now, WMC doesn't have focus, so my remote doesn't work. I have to use a keyboard, and issue an Alt+Tab to switch tasks to WMC. When I'm trying this, WMC is the only running program; so Alt+Tab shows 'Desktop' and 'Media Center'. It appears that the Desktop has focus instead. Very frustrating.
I assume that WMC should have focus when it starts back up, but for some reason it does not...
I have just installed a Netgear WN3000RP Wireless range extender and Netgear N300 Wireless USB Adaptor. The USB Adaptor shows as having WPA2-PSK Security but the Extender only shows as having WPA-PSK Security. This is probably something I did when installing. Is there any way to alter the security setting on the extender or do I need to reinstall it.
