WMC Doesn't Have Focus When Returning From XBMC Extender
Mar 20, 2012
I have WMC set up with an extender to launch XBMC. Alls great when I launch XBMC; WMC closes, I see the Windows 7 desktop, then XBMC loads. I can watch whatever. When I'm done, I exit out of XBMC. It goes back to the desktop, and then WMC loads up again. But now, WMC doesn't have focus, so my remote doesn't work. I have to use a keyboard, and issue an Alt+Tab to switch tasks to WMC. When I'm trying this, WMC is the only running program; so Alt+Tab shows 'Desktop' and 'Media Center'. It appears that the Desktop has focus instead. Very frustrating.
I assume that WMC should have focus when it starts back up, but for some reason it does not...
I am playing a game, that game is a full screen game being displayed on one monitor, and I have itunes open in the other monitor. The song changes, and I dont like it, I can free my mouse, and move it to the other monitor, but if I click anything, Windows sees that as me wanting to focus the desktop, so it minimizes the game.
I currently own a PC and a laptop. I have an external HD on my PC and I'm trying to be able to access those files through my laptop via XBMC. I've followed many tutorials online to no avail. I don't know much about networking or file sharing so there's my first downfall. I've tried setting up a home group on my main PC but the join home group option is grayed out on the laptop.
PC is windows 7 Professional x64 Laptop is Windows 8 x64
Sometimes I get random BSOD's, it's not something that happens every day however it's getting irritating. The last time it happend was today in Counter Strike 1.6 with the "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" error. So I followed your Verifier Driver tutorial and got 2 BSOD's with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL caused by aswTdi.sys (Avast Driver).. However I just installed Avast yesterday, and as you can see in my dmp files, I have had BSODs before with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and others, so I don't think that's the main issue.Sometimes I also get BSOD while watching a movie or something with XBMC, it happens randomly, but not often.I have thought maybe it's the ATi/AMD GPU (some BSOD ref.), and I have been checking temps, it's about 60C - I have changed the thermal paste and cleaned it - but still sometimes BSOD. I have played a lot of BF3 without getting BSOD, and that's a heck a lot of more strain on the GPU than CS 1.6.
My own guess is the GPU drivers, but I have been updating regularly Btw the System Health Report says "Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter" is disabled, and that's true, I have disabled it.System Info:Windows 7 X64 Enterprise Install date: 28-08-2011Intel Core i5 2500kZotac Z68 ITX2x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAMClub 3D Radeon HD4980System Disk: Crucial m4 128GBStorage: 2x500GB WD, 1TB WD - 7200rpmThe hardware is from august 2011, except for SSD (june 2011), storage (2009,2010) and GPU (2009).
First of all, I have 2 HDD and 1 SSD in my desktop PC and I use the SSD one for my OSThis time, this drive has Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (english) on it. Today, I wanted to try Windows 8. Since I am not really into virtual machines or multiple OS in seperate partitions which you can select in a menu or something like that, I decided to use an old HDD to install the new OS. I unplugged the SSD and I plugged in the old HDDEverything went cool. Windows 8 installed fine, and I tried them for few minutes. I was done for the moment (I will still use Windows 7 for a while), so I unplugged the old HDD (with Windows 8 on it) and plugged in again my SSD.My problem is this. Whenever I boot, I am getting an error which has to do with the "winload.exe" (and the environment of this is clearly windows 8!!!) and it gives me 3 options. Enter to continue (nothing happens), F8 to get into settings (nothing happens) and F9 to load another OS. The last option leads to Windows 7 boot. Everything runs fine, but I don't want to do this everytime I start my PC[CODE]
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. HP desktop model h8-1234. This is all I know of my audio which according to the update driver option, and Microsoft update, it is up to date: sound.JPG 44.27K 6 downloads
I have all the latest and optional updates to my PC using Microsoft update. I just bought this computer less than a week ago, so no real modifications to the system. If I put it into sleep mode for only a few minutes, the audio does not disappear. If it's in sleep mode for several hours, like when I sleep, there is no audio upon waking the computer. I read that for some people the audio driver disappears. That is not the case for me because the above pic was taken right now after returning from sleep mode with no sound. Also, I can go test my headphones using the audio thing and I'll get the little windows tune from here: sound 2.JPG 36.74K 7 downloads
But when I try to test the speakers section there is no sound as seen here: sound 3.JPG 36.86K 5 downloads
The only way to solve this problem is to restart my computer and obviously that defeats the purpose of sleep mode. Forgot to mention that I'm using headphones with 2 lines into the computer, one for the audio and the other for the mic. I do not have speakers.
A site I visit occasionally - Sport Lemon - From Bar - From Sport - Watch Live Sports Online - FromSport - recently changed names and since then the home page shows but all of the links return a "404 - Not Found" error. Tried with four browsers - Opera (2), IE9, Waterfox 16 - with caches cleared. Works fine at public library and ISP says it's ok for them. Firewall is Comodo and Java is disabled, tho it doesn't seem the site's using it. Win 7x64
Lately, I've been sharing my computer with my brother (his computer broke) and he just like to move the windows around (ie. music window to the bottom of the screen etc)So, every time I opened the music folder, it opens the window to the bottom of the screen. Is it possible to reset the window locations to its default location/size.
So brightness works well when i turn on the cmoputer from shut down.I can change it, use mobility center to change it, use power options to change it, use FN + Fx keys to change it.Then i go to sleep mode as i travel around (laptop) and when i turn it back on, the brightness is much dimmed (about 60%) and i cannot change it.In fact, the brightness box in Mobility Center has disappeared..ower options, whenever i use the brightness slider, no effect...N + Fx keys do not work, also. The solution is to either enter hibernation mode, and turn it back on or to Shut Down, then turn it back on.
I can create documents, or really any file, and when I try and search for it in the Windows button search (Windows 7) It will say 'No Results Found' Even when I know they are there. I can find some files, but all the ones I created return no results.I tried running the MicrosoftFixit.search.Run.exe off their site, It didn't work.
I purchased a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate at an auction. I subsequently installed it on one of my computers and everything went well. Not knowing that I could only install it on one computer I then installed it on my other computer. Everything was running well for a few days and now I keep getting a message that Windows 7 cannot activate. I don't want to purchase another copy of Ultimate and want to return to the original OS - Windows 7 Home that was preloaded on my Dell computer when I bought it.
I tried to do a system restore to the date that I installed the Ultimate but it didn't work. Ultimate is still running. Do I have to do a complete reinstall from my backup recovery disks and return to square one from when my computer was new or is there something I can do to stop getting the activation error code.
If I have to return to square one and reload from my recovery disks, I will, but I am trying to get around having to go through all that work, as well as the many, many, updates I will have to wait through. I am also worried about having to reinstall all of my software, addresses, etc.
In my house, there are a couple PCs with Windows 7. Is it possible to use another PC with 7 and the media center as an extender? And if both PCs have TV tuners, can they both share the recordings across each other?
I've been using the 360 as an extender to play mkv files mostly fine. However larger mkv files with ac3 audio stutter and don't play correctly at all. Files with DTS play fine however.
I started off only using the DivX mkv tech preview, with ac3filter. I've tried various other combinations since to no avail, at the moment I'm on a clean install with the 2 mentioned above and the shark007 pack.
I downloaded the WMPTagSupportExtender.1.4.msi file and it installs fine, but when I use WMP, it doesn't seem to do anything. I hear that using this allows WMP to play .flac files along with the Win7Codecs, but nothing's happening. Am I supposed to enable something? If so, how do I do it?
Toshiba protege m750 S7212 Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHZ 2.40 GHz Ram: 4.00 GB (2.87 usable) 32-bit
I can not get my Windows Media Center to connect to my xbox as an extender. I decided to attempt to use another computer to connect and as soon as WMC opened up it ask if I wanted to connect my xbox 360 as extender, which worked. That computer was a new Dell laptop. I haven't been able to set my Xbox 360 up as an extender to my Toshiba, with both the new sleek black one with the built in wifi, or the older 360 I had. This tells me 1: It is not my Xbox. 2: It is probably not my router settings. 3. Its a computer specific problem. When I search for my xbox as an extender on the Toshiba it Can't get past "configuring device". But I can see the xbox from Toshiba under the network window in explorer as a media device. My WMC runs fine. I haven't actually tried to use for anything other than adding my xbox as an extender but it does not crash. My xbox is not now or previously set up with another device before my Dell computer attempt.
Things I've tried: Every setting possible for two different routers I've owned that both boast media center compatibility (which is true for the Dell). All the port forwarding and opening and even putting my xbox into the DMZ. DO NOT TELL ME TO GO TO A SITE ABOUT ROUTER SETTINGS.
Uninstalling WMC by turning it off and on as a windows feature via the programs and features menu. Turning my firewall completely off to update and connect to Xbox Direct connecting both computer and xbox to router. Updating all my drivers. "Download now" option under WMC general settings to try and the most recent update.
command prompt: sfc /scannow. Everything came back verified. Create another user account with admin rights.
Both the Dell and my Toshiba are the most recent version of WMC: 6.1.7601.17541 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850). The only feature the Dell has that I don't is "Cyberlink Power DVD" which might be a Delly only feature. Both computers have the same setting on the router as well. My computer wasn't able to use the last cisco one to add the xbox and now we have a d-link DIR-685. With updated firmware. All my drivers are updated except for the PCI Simple Communications Controller which I tried an automatic and manual update through the intel set. And the AYGOK82A IDE Controller driver which didnt even show up after a web search.
I have 2 computers. One I was using as windows media center. I have it set with a Ceton Infinity tuner card. This one has Windows 7 pro 64 bit. The other one was just setting doing mostly nothing. It has windows Vista ultimate 64 bit. I thought that could make this one as a extender but I am having trouble setting it up. I believe that I have both computer setup to share all files. I can go to no 2 and add libraries that on no 1 but nothing shows up on no 2. I am about ready to throw a computer and the other equipment I bought for in the trash. Just about any thing I do screws up. Every can that I guess Can not spell or write in good English.
on a fresh install of Win 7 64 bit, in some situations when I open a folder (for eg. when I right-click on a link and choose open containing folder), the folder doesn't come to the front. It opens but sits blinking on the taskbar. I want it to get focus and come to the front.
I'd like to preface this post by mentioning that I have searched these and other forums about this issue and have found people that have had similar problems, but I don't think they are explaining things properly/as clearly as they could be. I'm hoping that I could give a little more incite into what's happening.
My laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The power options are set to "High Performance" which means that the system never goes to "Sleep" whether it is plugged in or not. However, the display is set to "Turn Off" at 5 minutes on battery or 10 minutes while plugged in.
Here is the issue: After my system's display has "Turned Off" due to inactivity, I will hit a key or move my mouse to bring the display back. Sometimes (not all the time), the laptop display will remain inactive. However, I do have two external displays hooked up. When this problem occurs, I can see my cursor on the two external displays.
Now, in most posts, people say they fix the problem by restarting their computer. I've found a different fix that doesn't require a restart. I'm able to log into the system while the screen is still off (ctrl+alt+del, type in password, press enter). Once logged in, I can see my desktop on the two external screens, but not on my laptop's native display. I then hit ctrl+alt+del, and my laptop's native display returns from it's off state. I press esc and everything is back to normal.
I've seen this now on a couple of systems in the office. We all have generally the same setup:
Dell Precision M4500 Laptop NVIDIA Quadro Notebook 880M on latest drivers High Performance Power Option Enabled Two External Monitors (one plugged directly into the VGA port on the laptop, another using a USB to DVI Adapter) - Monitors differ from laptop to laptop Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Same patches, same software.
So I'm not sure what's causing this. I'm still attempting to recreate the problem. I have a feeling that it only happens when I lock my system and THEN the display turns off rather than the display turning off and the system locking itself. Not sure what difference that makes, but I'll keep testing it.
I have my XBOX 360 connected via ethernet cable and often times when I attempt to view Live TV or play a recorded show through the XBOX, it crashes the computer.
I have 64 Bit Windows 7, 4 GB RAM, 2.8 GHz quad core, 1 GB XFX Radeon HD 5670, and use the AVerMedia A188 PCIe Pure ATSC TV Tuner. I've even gone as far as reinstalling Windows 7 with the thought that it might be a 3rd party software issue to no avail.
It does work about 70% of the time, but its really annoying waiting for the computer to restart. Why does this keep happening and what can I do to fix it?
I have searched and trauled the web and this website for answers and this site seems to have some pretty good responses so i thought i would post here. (I have also made a post on Shark007 fourms)
I run windows 7 ultimate 64bit on Intel quad core, 2gb ram with nvidia geforce 9600gt. Starting out with no idea what to do, after a some fiddling and searching i have now got both shark's codecs installed (normal and x64bit) and can run some MKVs through Windows media center using my 360 as an extender.
However, on about half of my MKV files i get the error message:
"The file type is not recognized and cannot be played. Either the correct coded is not installed or the file is corrupt" when trying to play on the xbox360. These same files play fine on Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player on the PC however.
I have tried various settings and also divx and CCCP codecs packs with the same result, (although i had to change some stuff in regedit to get MKV to show up on the xbox using divx) If you need any more information feel free to ask. Edit: I have noticed using sharks analyze function that the MKV which play are: "Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames" and the ones which do not work are "Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames"
I've been running Vista 64 sp1 about a year, and using my xbox 360 as an media center extender, hard wired. Its been mainly for pictures and music as we all know it's picky when it comes to video. It's been swell, no hickups at all. All this time, I've had a hauppage HVR4000 installed but not ever in use. Since all i have is analouge cable for TV-signal, I didn't have much use for it anyway, as WMC as of sp1 didn't support this type of signal.
A few weeks back I discovered TVPack2008, and suddenly realized I could put my HVR4000 to some good use. Since this update was OEM only, I had to find a rouge copy of the installer. Voila, analouge cable TV-playback on my 'puter.
Here my sorrows start:
Streaming to MCE (360) now only produced video or audio errors, saying I had to restart the extender. Pictures could still be viewed, but all video/audio nomatter what filetype, would no longer work.
So in my last desperate effort to get it to work again, I installed win 7 64, and was hoping for a change of luck. Same symptoms, different error message: "MCE cannot find the file you are trying to play". Pictures can still be viewed as before. The files are stored in default folders, and they are not corrupted. Streaming to dashboard works fine, both audio and video.
Also the "Play To"-functionality is not working, giving me error codes 0X80040369, UPnP-error 705, saying "cannot control the device".
What I've tried so far without luck:
-Updating firware on my D-link N router
-wiping the Xbox 360 harddrive and running intial setup
-opening up required ports on firewall (although I've read this doesn't do anything for devices on the same network)
-uninstalling hauppage drivers when using vista64 sp1.
My win 7 install is clean, no codec packs or funny stuff.
Anyone experiencing similar things? Or better, could give me some pointers to how to fix it?
When playing video via my xbox 360 extender the picture stutters almost like it's dropping some frames and the sound is unaffected but the same video playes just fine on media center via PC.Both wireless and wired connection with no difference, It's wired at the moment on a 15m / 50ft cable gone to tune network on the xbox 360 media center extender and all is good full bars all the way to the end of HD.Installed shark007 codecs pack v367 and the 64 bit components v367/I have sat and watched the PC performance in task manager whilst streaming to the xbox and don't think there was a problem there, The CPU stayed at a steady 8-12% but peaked at 30% when ever a stutter happened and the ram was a constant 55% with no change. In the networking tab usage never went above 12%.The video file I'm trying to play is AVI, Data Rate 1523, Bitrate 1653, 25 FPS thats all i can tell you i dont really know anything about video formats.PC spec is not fantastic but should be fine to stream to one extender my friend manages with a very old xp pc with only 512mb ram but he uses tversity.
After entering the 8 digit code on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC in the extender setup, I get the "Configuration Error" "An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender.".
Happens every time the same way. Each failed attempted causes two event log entries below. Interestingly, immediately after the failed attempt - the "Media Center Extender Service" service gets disabled. It is running under the "Local Service" account. I can set it to "automatic start", and then re-start the service, but as soon as I go through the Extender Setup, and it fails, the service is disabled again, with the two event log entries..
I have been tearing my hair out for 2 days now trying to figure this out. All I want to do is connect my xbox 360 in my living room to my xbox through Media Center and watch some movies on my computer on my living room TV. But it simply is not working. I get the error "Cannot Set up Extender" every single time i input the code into my computer that my xbox gave me. But, my dad's computer (windows 7 ultimate x86, connected to the network with ethernet JUST LIKE ME) works perfectly fine and connects instantly. And so does my netbook with the same OS but on wifi, I have been doing everything that google has been telling me through my search results. I have so far narrowed it down to a problem with my computer.
I have this small but highly annoying problem on Windows 7 64 bit. Alt + space focuses on the menu bar of a program when I don't want to.I'm an audio engineer that uses my home laptop to edit audio and video with programs like Sony Vegas and Cakewalk Sonar. These programs rely heavily on the Alt commands for quick zooming and other functions, and the spacebar is the de facto key for play and pause. However, I find myself often hitting Alt + scroll wheel to zoom out of tracks horizontally (since Ctrl + scroll scrolls vertically and Shift + scroll scrolls horizontally) and then immediately hitting the spacebar to play, only to find that Windows interprets this as Alt + space and automatically jumps me to the file menu of the program, disrupting whatever I was doing. Remapping Alt for all the various functions in the programs would be inconvenient and very challenging.Apparently, the gods at Microsoft have tried their hardest to make it impossible to prevent Alt + space (or Alt + anything) from opening the file menu, and I mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to remap this shortcut. I've searched everywhere, used AutoHotKey and key remappers, but nothing can change this shortcut without disabling the Alt key altogether.
I am trying to troubleshoot my PS3 controller on Windows 7. I play my games on the TV, so when I turn around it lags a bit.
When running multi-monitor, with the TV the main screen and the laptop as the secondary display, I am running the game on the TV, and on the laptop's screen have the controller properties screen where you can test the game controller and see if its buttons, sticks, ect work. So, with the game running on the TV, and the controller window on the laptop, I navigate through the game with the controller, it works fine, but it doesn't report it on the controller properties windows. It turns out that I have to have that window selected/in-focus for it to report the controller's key presses, or it doesn't work. So what I am asking is, how can I make that window in focus while running the game?
I just got a new computer and it has Windows 7. Windows 7 is driving me nuts because the top-most window will not automatically get focus. For example, say I have Windows-Explorer and Notepad open. I have Notepad focused and am working in it. I then close Notepad, which leaves Windows-Explorer as the only open window on the desktop. Yet the Windows-Explorer window will not automaticlaly get focus. Instead it is "greyed" out and the only way I can focus it is to click on the window.
Also, when I assign a keyboard shortcut (e.g., to open Internet Explorer if I assign Ctrl+Alt+I), it will never open with focus. It will open the app but it will be "greyed out" and it will not get focus until I click on it.
This never happened on Windows XP. On XP the top-most window would always get focus if there was no window "above it" or if the window "above it" was closed.
Is there any way to get Windows 7 to behave like Windows XP with windows getting focus?
I am having this very annoying problem where focus is being stolen in any application I am running. If it is full screen it will minimize if its a windowed app like firefox it will deselect it self then I have to re-click it. This is driving me nuts when I am trying to play games.I have done multiple virus scans to no avail. I just installed newest version of windows 7 on my laptop msi gx620. I tried tweakui focus fix it didn't work and I tried registry fix and it didn't work
Very peculiar problem that probably started with installation of a toolbar by mistake. Suppose I'm in chrome and typing in a text box, after exact 5s, the whole window loses focus and i need to click on the box again to regain focus and resume typing (you can understand how annoying this is). I have tried these so far but failed to resolve: Got rid of the toolbar, Ran MSE. It cleaned two security issues. Created new user, Still, the same. No change.
