View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 320Gb hard drive and made a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64bit. During the installation, the recommended partition on my 320Gb hard drive was to allocate 50Gb for the system C: and the rest D: for data. Not being any wiser, I agreed to this and the installation continued. It is now only when the installation is complete (it is all working fine at the moment) and the programmes installed (incuding some heavy ones like Photshop and Pinaacle studio14) that the C: partion is very close to being full (only 7.13Gb left). There is, of course plenty of space on the remaining D: (over 200Gb). Is there anyway I can merge or remove the partion so that I don't have to worry about the C. disc filling up as I add documents or additional programmes?

I started it as usual, ran a TuneUp Utilities check (as I usually do) and, in the meantime, was prompted by my iTunes installer to install a new version of iTunes. I clicked OK on the install thing, then all of a sudden I get this message from the HP Support Assistant: Windows System Restore is not activated. So I go to the System Protection folder to try to manually enable it, but I get an error message that says an unexpected error occurred: System restore has found an error, try to run System restore again. I do this a thousand times, and the same message pops up.
So I run my Norton antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy. The Norton search comes up empty, but the SpyBot returns this: Babylon Toolbar and Win32.Downloader.bltu. So I click to fix the problems and an error message pops up in SpyBot saying I'm not running it as admin, so the problems can't be fixed. Well, my user account is an admin account (the only one I have in this computer), so there's obviously something very wrong here, for it seems like whatever this is, it's keeping me from executing whatever task may remove it. I also execute sfc /scannow from a command prompt and the returning message is that I cannot run sfc /scannow because I'm not an administrator.
I get the above error every time on startup since installing some software. I have uninstalled the software but still get the error!
I tried system restore but it failed for an unspecified reason
When I try and install Windows 7 64-bit on my hard drives I get the fallowing error.
Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information.
Its doing this with vista now.
I'm using Windows 7 ultimate RTM and cannot create a repair disc image anymore. i get the error code 0x80070057 incorrect parameter with a dvd inserted. I'm really not sure what's causing this..
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter 8 long years I've finally upgraded my wheezy old pc, and now am drooling to play with this beastly new machine I've just assembled. My system specs should be in my sig below.But after 12 long hours of trying to install windows 7 pro, I'm more kinds of frustrated than there are words for.As in the topic title, I'm up against the "setup cannot find or create a system partition" error. My machine has a single 2 TB Hitachi Sata 3 hard drive, so there is no raid to muck things up, which seems to have been the primary cause of everyone elses troubles with this error. Using my old rig, I partitioned the new drive and transferred all the data from the old drives, leaving the first 75 GB partition empty and waiting for windows 7.
Then "the troubles" began. Research ensued.First thing I tried was to load updated sata 3 drivers from the mobo install disk. No help.Then I tried downloading the latest drivers from Asus and loading them from a flash drive during installation. No dice.Then I tried changing bios settings from Sata to IDE. No dice.Tried all of the above again with minor tweaks. Using the setup tools, I deleted that first partition and tried to make it again but setup gives me the title error.Well, of course I need that partition back so after some more research, I downloaded gparted, booted it up, but the video output is messed up and impossible to read.Then I slept for 6 hours. I woke up, tenacious and desperate, and figured I'd try diskpart (well above my paygrade) to make the first partition active and/or primary. Diskpart won't allow it? I disassembled my new system, plonked the old system back into the case, booted up into winxp off the old hard drive and with Easus partition manager and tried the same thing as with diskpart, but with the same results. No dice.Then, clearly somewhat crazy at this point, I put the new machine back in the case and tried ALL OF THE ABOVE AGAIN. No dice.Upon boot, POST sees the hard drive, but its not detected in bios. I don't know whether this is a hard drive problem, a mobo problem, a configuration problem, or completely normal for my gear. In any case, windows setup lists all the partitions.

I manually store all my media and pictures to both a separate partition on the drive, in the cloud, and on a separate external HDD, so all I really want to back up is the system image.This is the newbie sounding question to confirm my suspicions: The system drive I'm trying to back up is definitely bigger than the partition I've set aside for recovery. My C drive is a 473GB partition, and I'm using maybe a bit more than half of that currently. If this is the case, is there a way to reallocate un-used disk space from my other partitions to make the recovery partition larger, or should I be biting the bullet and shelling out for a 500GB external to cover my system recovery needs?

There was an original install but the computer was having issues as some files were corrupted. I used the Windows 7 disc to format the hard drive and booted from CD after restarting.

It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. So, now I am stuck and not able to install Vista as well as Windows 7. I am not able to boot Windows as there is no OS in my laptop now.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"
I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.
Get error code 0xCOAA0301 returned from drive. Found it's a known problem so tried solutions inc Windows troubleshooter. It says fault fixed and and drive shows up in explorer and will play music cds. As soon as screen for repair disc comes up drive is shown as disconnected even though it can be heard running. Netbook tries to create disc then returns error message.

When I go to create a new Library it reads the following error message: "Unable to create the new file 'New Library.library-ms' File System Error: (16389)." Not only is the library no longer accessible, but I cannot access any of the Music, Pictures or Documents from the Start Menu.I am only able to access the folders using the search bar by selecting "User Name" from the drop down box, then suddenly everything's there. All is working well as a dual boot system, but at this point I would like to format the 250GB drive and use it for data storage. Problem is that since it was the original drive when I added the SSD and Windows 7, I believe that the MBR is on that drive. When I physically disconnect it, I get a message to put in my 7 install disk, but when I to try to repair it, it shows no OS to repair.So, can I move, change or create a new MBR on the SSD or am I going to need to just do another clean install of 7 on the 64GB drive without the 250GB drive attached, then attach it and format it?
