View 2 Replies View RelatedMost of the time, whenever I open a browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome) it takes 5-10 seconds before it will connect to any websites. The tabs just show the 'connecting' symbol spinning. This happens even if I'm only trying to open a single tab. It's not because the computer is going slow or anything, because I can still access other programs or do other things within the browser like open new tabs, view options, etc. It's not a problem with my internet connection, because while the browser refuses to load a site I can use the command prompt to ping the same site and I get a response immediately. This has only started happening recently, like in the past two weeks.

I've been getting the BSOD for the past 4-5 days whenever I'm on the internet. At first I was on firefox, then I tried ie and google chrome, and I got the BSOD using all of them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNeither FF, Opera or Chrome open on my Sony Vaio 64bit system. I know I have Internet access as Avast updates every day. When the relevant icons are pressed the Blue loading ring appears for a few seconds then disappears. When I try to access Task manager by ctr/alt/del the screen appears asking which service I require but when I select Task manager the Blue ring appears and again disappears and nothing happens. I regularly run anti virus scans and everything else seems to work okay. I've heard a rumour that the Bonjour service could be the problem. I I did uninstall it but maybe there is something left behind.

Working with a Toshiba Satellite L650 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.All of my browsers have suddenly stopped working (IE, Firefox and Chrome).I click on the icon, the "loading" mouse pointer shows up and then nothing happens.I've tried restarting my computer, checking for updates and doing a virus scan... nothing is working.I am now writing from another computer because I'm not able to access any webpage from the one that's having problems. My Avast antivirus says my computer is clean and I have no way of downloading any other software since browsers are not opening.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a windows 7 machine connected to the internet through a gentoo linux firewall/router/proxy.
I used to have this problem a while ago on windows xp but worked around it with dns hacks on my linux box. This time I want to find the actual cause.
As of today, if I go to IMDB, most of the CSS files fail to load. Trying to get to the url directly, firefox and chrome both tell me that the IMDB cdn server can't be found. Running nslookup from the windows 7 machine managed to resolve the hostname perfectly. It also works flawlessly from the linux box.
I have transparent interception on port 80, going to a squid proxy which should perform all the DNS queries. It seems that browsers (firefox and chrome...untesed with others) still seem to be trying to perform DNS lookups themselves and for some reason, fail for certain addresses.
I get an error that says, "has stopped working" then it closes the window and reopens back to the same page. This happens at least once every five mins and with both chrome and IE. I've tried all the different things floating around the web on how to fix this and nothing works.
Its not a connectivity problem as uTorrent is constantly seeding in the back ground.
I've disabled all add-ons as well as disabling all start up services.
Seems my windows will not backup anymore, it did not finish last backup. I tried to start a new one and just keeps giving the same error, last backup did not finish. I am backing up on a spare external usb drive.find the drive no problem. Give me something called error on the windows bit logger??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS N61Jv, running Windows 7 Professional 64bit (legal, pre-installed). The built in webcam is suddenly not functioning anymore. I can't recall changing anything, so I'm not sure why this is happening. When opening the cam in skype, windows live messenger, or lifeframe3, it keeps saying that the cam is in use by another application. I've reinstalled the driver, but to no avail. I have also reinstalled the software programs.

Some minutes ago I was moving an image file into a folder on my desktop using my mouse but after that I suddenly haven't been able to open none of my folders anymore! When I click twice on a folder it goes in "Windows Explorer Taskbar". I can see it there but if I try to open it , it "flies away" towards rightside on my desktop and disappear ( I guess that's the same movement I did moving the image into the folder ).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot make a back-up anymore. The only way to sent my files to an external hard drive is via Windows Easy Transfer. It says that it is missing important parts on the system. All browers will stop working after about 10 seconds. I can kill the process whenever I want and restart the brower, but the issue persists. Counts for all browers. If I startp my computer it will load the BIOS as it should be. Then it goes to load Windows. Also no problems, but right after loading Windows, it is going somethimes in Startup Repair. So I go to Safety Modus with network capabilities and I re-install the drivers for NVIDIA (GTX650). After restarting the system, it will load without any problems for a several of days. When I am on my Desktop, the antivirus will be disabled automatically. I did not touch anything(Norton 360, 2013 By Symantec).I had plans to do a re-install of Windows, but is someone else has a better idea, I would be glad to hear that.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, Windows 7 will not let me install ANY drivers anymore. The problem gets even stranger... Lets say I have a USB device that already has the drivers installed on one of the USB ports. If I move the device to a new port, Windows will not install the driver on the new USB port even though Windows already has this driver installed on another port. This problem is not limited to any specific device either, it applies to new HD'S, pci devices, and pcie devices. I have even gone so far as to disable all running application, unnecessary services, etc. I am thinking that there is some setting somewhere or maybe a inadvertent registry change...
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an eMachines eM350 netbook that used to be able to boot from a flash drive, until now. I have a flash drive that is dedicated to installing an OS via USB, and recently I've been looking to reinstall Xubuntu as a dual boot, but for whatever reason, my BIOS won't even recognize the drive anymore as USBHDD, and any other drive I use is categorized as USBFDD, even using the same model (Lexar 16GB S70)Windows is still capable of recognizing the flash drive (Lexar 8GB S70), but not the BIOS.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOkay so I installed Windows 7 after taking a break from the Beta. Unfortunately it didn't do what it usually does and let me boot "an older version" or anything like that. It just booted Windows 7. I read some stuff on this forum and ended up using bcdedit to try and fix it. These are the exact commands I entered:
bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"
bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=C:
bcdedit /set {ntldr} path
tldr
bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast
Note: C: Is where XP is. O: is where Windows 7 is.
After doing that I got a dual boot screen at start-up. When I select Windows 7 I start windows 7. When I select Windows XP it just restarts the computer and shows me the screen again.
Any suggestions? I don't know how to get back into XP now. I guess I could disable the SATA than Windows 7 is on and it would be forced to start up XP (which is on an IDE) but I really want to get this dual boot business fixed.
I would just say screw it and abandon XP for now except I password protected my files and now I can't get to them unless I transfer ownership one by one. :S
EDIT: I fixed my problem, and in an unexpected way. After I posted I was frantically trying to decide what was different this time (as I had gotten this setup to work before). I then remembered that I had set my SATA drive as the primary boot drive in the bios in my effort to get Windows 7 to work when the boot sector was corrupt. I changed it back to my IDE drive (the way it originally was) and the dual booting worked again.
I never would have thought that would be the problem. It doesn't explain other users who had the exact same problem though. I doubt very many people decided to play with the controllers in the bios.
Suddenly I've noticed that certain .ogg files aren't able to be played in Windows Media Player. It only occurs with some files; others play perfectly fine. For the files that do not work, they open fine but there is no audio or visualisation at all; however, the time bar (or whatever it's called) still shows properly. The files play properly in other media players but I prefer to use WMP.
(I use the codec available here: Directshow Filters for Ogg Vorbis, Speex, Theora and FLAC: Home but although I tried reinstalling it, I still have problems)
I'm having problems getting my Usb MIDI to work in my music software. It used to work, but one day it just magically stopped working. I was about to make a dumb mistake and buy a new $60 Usb MIDI cable, but then I checked in device manager and I noticed that Windows WAS recognizing the Usb MIDI cable. It even said "This device is working properly." The MIDI Input light on the cable blinks when I press the keyboard's(piano) keys when I first plug it in, then stops after a while. It's supposed to be plug-n-play. When I first got it, no driver download was needed. I plugged it in, and it worked. I was thinking it may need a driver update? Or maybe a new driver? [code]

View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from XP to 7 about a year or so ago, and just noticed that the few home DV videos I captured since then were in AVI format, and about 12 GB each, compared to the former ones on XP which were WMV and not quite 1GB each. I have tried in vain to set the automatic capture on Windows Movie Maker to WMV as default, but it doesn't seem to allow it. These AVI files are just too big for my storage space over time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife's computer has an issue that just started a week ago that's driving me nuts. The PC has been running Windows 7 Home Edition (64 bit) for over a year. She sat down to use her computer and tried to open IE (IE9). When she clicked on it, a window popped up that says "Internet explorer has stopped working". What's more troublesome is that NONE of the browsers on her PC worked (FF, Chrome, IE). They all give similar error messages and refuse to start.A friend of mine tried all of the following with no luck (the PC rebooted after each of these tasks):
Removed Chrome and FF. No change.
ran Avast
ran Malwareybytes
ran Adaware
ran Microsoft Security Essentials
[code]....
The kicker is that after all of this, I decided to install Opera and Safari and they work!! But the other three browsers still won't work! Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, all browsers work (IE, FF, Chrome). No changes were made to her computer prior to this happening. I really want to avoid re-installing Windows 7.
I'm probably using the worst browser, Internet Explorer. I used to use Firefox, but I was concerned with privacy issues once they teamed up with Google so I went back to Explorer. Two weeks ago I updated to version 9 of Internet Explorer and I'm constantly getting connection issues which I've never had before. What are the better browsers when it comes to both privacy and security?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn April of this year I ordered a new computer from ibuypower.com. I wasn't thrilled with its state when I received it, as the graphics card was defective and several cables were unattached. But, when I got a replacement card my games played just fine, which was my main concern.Thereafter I noticed that there was a problem whenever I tried to play sound through my browser. The sound is really muffled to the point that I can't understand anything that is being said. My normal browser is Firefox, but the same thing happens with IE and Chrome.
