Windows Update Hung Up?

Jul 4, 2011

The latest Windows Update that imposed itself onto my machine (A six-pack) is not installing but seems to be freezing, unfinished. At least, its not finishing number 1 of six in many hours. So it's either a ginormous update, which I doubt, or summats up. For three days I have been having to switch off power and reboot "Windows Normally" to access my stuff. What I would like to do is get rid of this six-pack that wants to update so where to find it and how to squash it out of existence?

Windows 7 Hung On Shutdown After Adding Monitor?

Jul 14, 2012

I had to force shut down my new build(2 weeks old ). I hooked up a new monitor, plugged in an Oxygen Keyboard(piano) for the first time and tried to plug the keyboard(typing keybaoard ) into a usb port, which for some reason didn't work and then Windows 7 started searching for drivers and couldn't find whatever driver it was looking for. No, problem until I went to run aida64 and it froze on the opening page,I force quit it in task manager then tried to restart and it froze on"windows is shutting down".After I forced the shutdown by holding down the power button I restarted and everything seems to be cool,aida64 opened up ,programs seem to be responding. here's what the win 7 report said: roblem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 1000009f BCP1: 0000000000000004 BCP2: 0000000000000258 BCP3:FFFFFA8018B84660 BCP4: FFFFF80000B9C3D0 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:WindowsMinidump71412-18610-01.dmp C:UsersGrantAppDataLocalTempWER-28236-0.sysdata.xml Read our privacy statement online: here is the zip of my dump file and system health report Attachment 221419?

Hung Up On Welcome Screen?

Mar 9, 2012

two days ago window updates automatically downloaded on my one year old Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Now I cannot get passed the welcome screen. There is no way to run a repair disc because I cannot get pass the welcome screen after typing in my password. I can go into safe mode or safe mode command prompt. But then what? The task manager screen just freezes up. The only escape is to unplug the computer and remove the battery and start all over again. Then the same thing keeps happening? Is there any solution to this problem?I can get to a screen that says Administrator: cmd.exe Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1. 7600]

Hung Up On System Restore?

Nov 30, 2012

Last night I chose to hibernate rather than to shut down. This morning when I woke it up outlook wouldn't start. I clicked the icon a bunch of times out of frustration then the screen went dark and the tower started beeping. If I remember correctly it was three long tones in succession repeating. I forced it to power down holding the power button, restarted it and went to the recovery/repair options. I started a system restore to which I had only one option to restore to a windows update from 12:01am this morning. The SR started but has been hung on "restoring files" now for over two hours. Not that it makes much difference but it's an HP h8-1260t with windows 7 pro.

Microsoft Security Essentials Hung Up?

Feb 8, 2013

For the last 2 days I have been trying to do a full virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and it gets hung up every time on WindowsSystem32CodeIntegritydriver.stl    It will do a quick scan just fine but that is it.  When it gets hung up on this file I try to cancel the scan and end up having to use the task manager to close out the program and then I have to reboot my computer to have MSE working in the taskbar.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, removing programs that were recently installed, I ran malwarebytes and that came up clean, I tried restoring to an earlier time and that didn't work, I tried safe mode and it did not work.  I do not have a wireless mouse or wireless keyboard.  Some sites suggested that might be a problem.  I installed and tried Super Antispyware and that did not work properly so I uninstalled it.  I do not know what else to do.  I sure would feel better if I knew my antivirus program would do a full and complete scan.  It is always the same file that it gets stuck at.  I even tried putting that particular file in the excluded files within the MSE program and that didn't work either.  It just kept trying to scan it.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium with 64 bit operating system.  With having our Church records, our business files and then of course my personal files/pics it always makes me nervous when something isn't working properly.

Windows Update Error / Not Search Or Update / Install Critical Items

Jan 30, 2011

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

Optional Update In Windows Update Is Giving A Blue Screen

Nov 3, 2012

The update is called:

nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.

After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

Unable To Update Using Windows 7 Update (Code 8000FFFF Error)?

Oct 30, 2012

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.

Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Windows Update Won't Update, Stuck At 0%?

Oct 25, 2012

My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.

Windows 7 Update Broken After Windows 7 Update?

Jan 2, 2012

I did an update of Windows last week, which included two critical fixes (I think both were related to .NET) and two "optional" security updates. I updated, rebooted, and now Windows Update no longer works: the icon is missing from the menu item, and when I click it nothing happens. The Windows Update service is running; tried restarting that as well. Tried a .NET cleanup utility, but all that seemed to do was remove or break one of the .NET version installations (a game that uses .NET complained after running the utility, and stopped complaining after I manually re-installed .NET 3.5 and updates).

Samsung Bios Software Update For Bios / Update Fails

Dec 1, 2012

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers,

Windows 7 Will Not Update

Oct 29, 2012

The wife's laptop hardly used, and been setting and has been setting for about 7 months. She finally decided she wants to learn/use it. I have been trying to get everything updated, and a few programs automatically popped up for updates and were successfully. However I can't get the Windows updates to run it says, Windows update can't check for updates because the service in not running. Try rebooting. That didn't work.I ran MrFixitit, another fix from microsoft and nada. I checked the services and the update one is running and on auto. I tried shutting it off and back on, set it to run automatically and auto with delay. Rebooting between any change. The computer has only been on line 7 months ago to update the programs, including win7 and has no virus's.
