So over the past few days it seems that I have lost control of my C drive and all of its contents.I can no longer properly access it, and everything opens in "Read-Only". I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.
Today I decided to install some stuff on my computer as it was out of date..I installed Java, Flash player and adobe reader X but when I go to add/remove they are not showing up in that section?
Every time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
This fault is occur a after using Iobit Uninstaller. I closed this program before uninstrallation process of selected programs completed. After this only 5 programs are showing. I restore syatem by Iobit Uninstaller. but no any change.I checked registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall). There is only 5 keys. How do I recover these registry keys.
I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player which is needed to view a file (.swf), and it appears in the control panel as an installed program. However, it does not appear as a default program when I am trying to use the "associate a file type or protocal with a specific program" even when I press the browse list. The program also does not appear when I "right click" the file itself and use the open command. The program also does not appear in the list of programs on the "All Progams: list when clicking the windows icon. So, can someone tell me how to get programs onto the default list....(Please, I have seen a number of threads that talk about how to "set" the default program which I am well aware of...I need to know how to get a program to be recognized and incoroporated as part of the list).
first when I try to open microsoft office starter 2010 a box appears...click to run configuration error....so I went to programs and features to repair it and many of my installed and pre-downloaded programs aren't listed.. they are in the start menu and they work but they're just gone. Microsoft office and all related programs and features are among them....I had about 60 or 70 items before and now 23...I've tried system restore and nothing...
My sister did an Ad-Aware scan, and it removed what it found. However, after it was finished she could no longer run any programs and when trying to open IE through her toolbar it gave her a message saying it had been deleted. She managed to get the 64-bit version to work when running from her start menu, and things like Notepad will open. But none of her programs will work, though they worked perfectly fine just last night. WoW, her virus program, anything. We're all extremely frustrated by this, and hope someone can help give us some hints on fixing it. She's hoping she won't have to wipe it clean and reformat.
When I built my machine about a year ago I did so after reading through various photography forums. I was reading about how to build a speedy PC and of course how to have Photoshop work quickly. The general consensus was to build a machine with an SSD and run PS here. So that's what I did - I built a speedy machine, installed Win7 64 on the SSD and installed my programs there as well. PS runs great! Super fast. All data (and scratch disks) are on an HDD.However, in the time since I've built this I've been reading around on PC forums (like here). I believe what I've found in these forums is a consensus of having Win7 on the SSD and install all programs on another drive (HDD). So, let's call this question #1 - would that be the recommendation?I'll go off the assumption that the answer to #1 is YES. That'll give me a more responsive, better performing PC while possibly relinquishing some PS speed, correct? (We'll call that question #2.)If I'm going to go this route, (#3) what's the best/easiest way to accomplish this split? (#4) Do I need to uninstall everything and basically start from bare windows, then reinstall everything to the HDD?
I'm trying to fix a friend's laptop: Dell - Windows 7. Can't run the properties to find out any more than that.Only a few programs seem to run. IE64 but not IEx86 and Task Manager.I plugged in an additional monitor and the monitor setup ran but that's about it - no other programs will start.
I recently upgraded from vista, and I was just looking at the windows.old folder, where all my old programs and whatnot reside. I tried a few of them out, and they seem to be functional. Essentially, the heart of my question is are there drawbacks to using programs that are in the program files (or wherever) of windows.old. Particularly in cases where there is an update process (say, like steam) will this present with issues?
I currently have an 80Gb HDD with Windows 7 installed and a 160Gb HDD with the various program files and applications on it. I did this originally as I assumed that the pc can read/write data simultaneously to both drives which should speed up performance when loading programs.. Other data such as videos, pictures etc are stored on a 1Tb HDD. I am thinking of getting a Samsung 64Gb SSD drive. The question is, will it work faster for the Windows and all the program files to be on the SSD drive or just let the operating system run from the SSD and keep the program files on the 160Gb HDD?
This concerns 2 programs occasionally recommended in the forums but has more to due with Windows than the programs themselves. Is there a way in Win 7 Pro 64bit to eliminate the UAC pop up window when running either CCleaner or Defraggler ? I have tried running as administrator but still get the pop ups ?Doesn't work very well when CCleaner runs at start-up...have to click the UAC window before I can continue ?
I noticed that my Windows 7 (which is 64-bit) automatically installs every program in my X86 program files folder. Doesn't this mean that my programs are running in 32-bit mode? If so, doesn't this mean my game/programs won't be running as quickly as they should be?
I have a 16bit program. I have developed it in VB3 and back-end is ms access 2.0. Now can't run on windows 7 64bit, however it runs on some 32bit BUT has completely refused to run on another 32 bit computer!
Windows will not let me open any of my programs this happen updating windows. I went back and restored it and windows updated and now i have the same problem again.
It says they need too be installed on 32 bit. Anyway to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit? I think it's my system though because I know other people have used them on 64 bit systems.error message:"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
my widows 7 pro 64 bit seems to only be runningthe 32 bit programs for some reason, it did this a couple of monthsago, so i restored to an earlier time, this sorted it out, now i have triedto do the same and the only restore point is from yesterday 26.07.2012no dates exists before this, i am thinking part of window has been orruptedor something maybe a virus
I am trying to uninstall programs and it will not allow me to. Each time I try I get a message stating the system administrator has set paramiters to stop this. I am the system administrator its my home pc. I also can not download any updates for itunes. I get a message about windows installer service could not be accessed.
Ad our work we installed 10 new PC HP Z400 workstations with windows 7 64bits, we installed Office 2007 small business and Autocad 2011, Sophos anti virus.
After our install every thing seems to work fine computers are set in network and login to server windows 2003, get mail from exchange 2003. and get windows updates from the server 1 day in the week, for the updates we aprove in the windows update service on the server.
but some how the 10x 64bits windows 7 machines dont hold themselfs to update shedul from ones a week from the server, on the client you can't adjust the settings for updating because its locked from out the server but it will update every day if needed we have 3x 32bits windows 7 machines who dont have this problem, the rest of our machines run on windows XP.
the updating shedule isn't a big problem but every time we get an update the programs we use wont work any more they fail in starting up especialy Autocad and Office 2007 wont start Outlook starts up and runs but when we open an other mail then where the program starts in the program fails to work and we have to force it to close reboot the machine 1-5 times to get the programs working, after that it works perfect till a next update from windows
Last night all was fine. This morning I boot and my AV (Avast!) does not start. I tried to open excel file and I get "There was a problem sending a command to the program". Cannot open FF, but IE(64) works. Cannot run Malwarebytes, changed name to myapp.exe, and myapp.com - no luck, even in safe mode. Tried to run TDSSkiller, safe mode, tried renaming, nothing...
Start>msconfigWhich startup programs are vital, and which aren't at startup? I'm trying to optimize the flowof the system, and from what I've been told, not all programs are necessary, forsafe and efficient, pc performance. My system configuration STARTUP tab reads:Launch ManagerMywinlockerRegistry MonitorHD Audio Control PanelSearch ProtectionCatalyst control center (Which is fairly annoying I must add with the pop ups at startup)Super AntispywareSynaptics pointing device driverVprotect applicationYsearchprotectionPlease note that I have more startup programs, however they are programs like:OoVoo, Skype, Acer arcade...Entertainment programs, and programs I can dowithout an initial startup. The ones I did list, I'm not completely sure if theyare vital programs, I couldn't afford to do without an initial startup. In a nutshell, of the programs listed, which are strongly reccommended to be enabled for startup?
I was dealing with a creepy redirecting malware and I was connecting to bleepingcomputer.com a few times. I went back to connect to bleepingcomputer.com and the connection failed. I did some diagnosis and the detailed info said "The device or resource (www.bleepingcomputer.com) is not set up to accept connections on port The World Wide Web service (HTTP)." This was the only site that seemed to be targeted - I could connect to all other sites as far as I could tell.I used Malwarebytes and it found and removed a few files and one directory. I still could not connect to Bleepingcomputer. I looked through the programs that had been installed and found wone I did not recognize - which was installed just about the time of my problems. Then I made a mistake - I uninstalled it without getting a screen shot or writing down the name. The good news - I could now connect to Bleeping computer - but Id like to find out what the ell that was.
I have a photoshop software called Microsoft Picture It! Publishing on my old laptop that runs on XP, yet when I try to run it on Windows, nothing runs.....It there anyways that I can get this program on Windows 7?
