Power Saving Options Are Being Ignored

Sep 15, 2011

My computer will not go into sleep mode, turn off the hard disk, or even go to a screen saver. I manually put it to sleep and it ethier wakes right back up or it waits 5 minutes and comes right back on. I dont have any programs running that should affect it sleeping. I went into the bios and made sure all the wake-up-on settings were off. I tried different power options and settings, and nothing is working. I never had an issue before, the change being that I have a new motherboard and reinstalled windows 7 on a SSD

All of a sudden, my sis's laptop got into a loop of continously detecting a Power Saving USB. The "sound" of detecting something being plugged into the laptop keeps ringing.

Receive Mail Whilst Saving Power?

Feb 23, 2012

I'm getting Eco conscious in my old age. My laptop is usually on all day and I think it would be a better idea if I could use sleep mode or something to save power. Problem is I need to know if emails are arriving. Is it possible to set the computer up in such a way that it wakes up when an email arrives, or would sleep mode stop emails arriving in the first place? Using Live Mail by the way.

Monitor Stuck In Power Saving Mode?

Nov 23, 2012

I left my computer running overnight as I usually do. When I went back to it this morning, it was stuck in power saving mode. When I rebooted, everything looked fine and the windows logo loaded but when I reached the login screen it went directly to Power Saving mode and got stuck there.

I am posting this from Safe Mode with Networking.

Monitor Blinks Repeatedly Coming Out Of Power Saving

Dec 12, 2009

I have a new problem. My monitor has begun to blink repeatedly after coming out of power saving mode (when the screen turns off automatically due to inactivity).

I have no problems with this in that past. This problem just started out of the blue a few days ago. Initially, it would just blink once or twice coming out of power saving mode, now it might blink 10 or more times before the monitor stays on. Once the monitor is on, it functions fine. The blinking only occurs after coming out of power saving mode.

PC Enter Into Power Saving Mode When HP Recovery Starts

Jan 2, 2012

I have a HP PC and I'm trying to use HP recovery plus to install Windows 7. It consists of 3 discs and the thing is, that I insert the first one in the optical drive, restart computer, press F11 to enter the recovery menu or whatever. Then it loads Windows files, then the HP recovery itself starts. The problem is, that when I enter the recovery menu, the computer will go to power saving mode after a while, no matter what. I tried pressing some random keys to get it back up, but it just doesn't work.

Monitor Going Into Power Saving Mode When Enter / Exit Game

Mar 22, 2010

The monitor seems to go into power saving mode when entering/exiting a game such as a game in steam. (But it doesn't happen every time) the only way to get it out is hard restart. Yes I've tried other monitors, as well as display drivers, and there also seems to be nothing wrong in the Bios.

Upgrading Video Card And Power Supply

Apr 8, 2012

My brother needs a video card but me being the smart one here. I got his info from dxdiag and I need a recommendation for two things , a video card and power supply. His current power supply runs at a max of 250w and it seems low, mine being 500w so its the right thing to upgrade in order to get a video card. keep video card recommendations "single slot" only since I have no idea how to hook up a video card to a power supply. Single slot ones are simple.

Setting Can Change To Shut Off Power To USB Buses / When Power Off PC?

Jun 9, 2011

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

Random Power Off / Power On / Reboot Events

May 2, 2012

Over the past 2 years my PC has been afflicted with random power off/power on/reboot events. It will go for months without these and then have multiples of the events in a day. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws. The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

Saving Two System Images In Windows 7/64 HmPrem

May 6, 2011

I ordinarily save a system image (~34GB) every two weeks to an external (160GB) HD. The "30% default rule" means I can save only one image on that drive (the "most recent", and that's overwritten by the new one).I'd rather save the last two images (new plus that of two weeks ago).Because I've had a lot of problems getting Windows Backup&Restore to work correctly, I'm leery of changing a lot of settings around.is there something simple I can do to save the most recent two images?
