I have an old thinkpad t43 that came with XP. Do you think Windows 7 would run ok on it, or would it be really slow? This laptop holds a maximum of 2GB ram, so perhaps that would be the kicker. Or, maybe something like Windows 7 Starter would be lighter?

I have shared everything on all laptops but every time I try to connect It ask for a password. I went to the sharing option and changed the password on all computers to the same thing in home networks, I still cant access any of the laptops, Says the password is incorrect. I have a cooling stand for it, and it hardly ever is moved because I know how hot it gets - its more like a desktop now. I've heard it is because of a bad heat sink design in the DV6 Series, but was wondering whether replacing the current thermal compound with something such as Arctic Silver would help at all? I don't playing any FPS games, but do play some browser games (or did play, but I would rather have the option there). Would this be adequate for games like RuneScape and such?

I have upgraded it to windows 7 32 bit. I have the windows 7 32, and 64 bit upgrade. I also have the windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit complete install. Can someone explain to me step by step how to put windows 7 64 bit on this laptop. Ive tried doing what it says on the windows page to go from 32 to 64 and it just says the windows is not compatible. Says that no matter what I do, change the bios to boot from dvd, go into the dvd and attempt to start it that way. What do I need to do or is there nothing I can do.I can install the 500 gig hard drive that came out of our newer Dell that had windows 7 64 bit on it. I do have a case coming so I can at least get the info off it or use it as a slave but at this point its more of a challenge.

My XP machines see the laptop in "network places", but laptop with Win7 does not see the XP machines or an ip/ipp network printer. I'm fairly certain that it is the administrator account, and I can't figure out the password or find anyway around it. Safe Mode automatically asks for the password to the account (which is why I'm fairly certain that it is the administrator account).

Now it boots to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. I have gone into the setup and noticed that it was trying to boot from Diskette, then CD/DVD and finally the Hard drive. I changed it to boot from Hard drive, but still received the same problem. I ran the diagnostics and received Code 4400:011A in one of the results after the diagnostics finished. Could the hard drive be going? Do I need to reinstall the operating system? I also tried to do a repair after using the reinstallation CD but it shows that I have no restore point and said it could not be repaired.

The DVD does boot on my non-laptop PC.
Edit: Apparently, the DVD won't show up in Windows' Computer either. Is the DVD drive dead?
