Jun 6, 2012

I have shared everything on all laptops but every time I try to connect It ask for a password. I went to the sharing option and changed the password on all computers to the same thing in home networks, I still cant access any of the laptops, Says the password is incorrect. I can access the Server with Vista, but just not the Laptops.

i've got a new laptop, running win7 home premium 64bit at the PC i have win7 ultimate 32bit
i've set the workgroup to be the same on both computers when i try to enter any of the computers (from the laptop to the PC or vice versa), i get the username / password screen there are no passwords on any of the users logged in to the windows and each system has only one user.
if i remember correctly, if both are on same workgroup, nothing else should be done in order to see shared folders.

Setup:
Desktop computer Vista
Laptop computer Win 7
On my network (wireless), my Desktop can find and use everything that is on my Laptop computer.
When I try to find or map out the Desktop from the Laptop, the Laptop cannot see my desktop at all (eg in the Network "explorer-type" window in Windows 7) .
I've checked my firewall settings, and my sharing properties on both computers, but I think I missing some setting somewhere that will let me connect from the Laptop to the Desktop (so that I can use my Desktop printer).

I have a Windows Home Server with a lot of movies on it and until now I have only watched them locally at home. I wanted to find out though how you can stream them whenever you are outside of your home network, just on public Wifi or something like that.

I hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Windows 7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".
It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.
Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:
- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away
It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.
My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it.

Printer plugged into Win7 box - how to print from remote XP machine? describes an original difficulty I had getting remote computers (laptops and desktops) to print to a USB printer connected to my Windows 7 box. Read far enough and you'll see that I solved that problem using Networking issue - Win7 printer, XP remote machines.Fast forward 13 or so months. Since that time I have replaced the printer, I've had a motherboard and processor issue with my box (since fixed), and no interruption of things working as they should. My printer - Canon ip4800 series - is USB hardwired to my Windows 7 computer, and the other home computers - two Windows 7 laptops, an XP box, and an XP netbook - can print to the printer, and view files on my Windows 7 machine, over our wireless home network. And that's been constant through the changes described.
Then yesterday, for no known reason, my daughter's Windows 7 laptop stopped being able to print. She'd send jobs to the correct printer, but they'd just queue up, with the queue visible from her machine, but not when I looked at the printer from my machine (that is looking at the print queue from her machine shows the jobs, but looking at it from mine shows no jobs).Nothing I did would result in stuff from her machine, from any application, to go to the printer.I finally deleted the printer from her machine, figuring I'd just add it back.I try adding a printer to the laptop, it doesn't find the printer on the list of available printers. When I try adding it by typing the name - \mywin7canon ip4800 series - that fails. When I look at "network" from her laptop, my computer shows up, but if I click on it, Windows says it can't connect.
When I type ping her_computer from a DOS box, it can't find it - but when I type ping any_other_computer it finds those. Her laptop can get on the internet from our home wireless network. All the other computers in the house - Windows 7 and XP - can access shared files on my PC, and more importantly, print across the network to my USB printer. Please, patiently and precisely, guide me through stuff to check on my PC and her laptop, to get this working again. I've been through the network and sharing center on my PC and the settings are correct.Again, as it is right now, my printer is not defined on her laptop.Final, cro-magnon- level question here: If I did a system restore on her laptop, back to a point when it had been able to print, might that fix things?

My niece got a Toshiba laptop on Christmas, and now it is messed up from a virus. It's a Toshiba C655D-1087 that came loaded with Win7 Home 64 bit. No CDs came with it. Toshibas' website does have all of the drivers available on-line. I cannot find anywhere to download Win7 so that I can do a HDD wipe and reformat/ re-install. The Win7 product key code is affixed to the bottom of the unit, Just need a valid way to obtain the OS for a clean install. I personally have Win7 Pro 64 bit, but I don't believe that I can use that with a 7 Home key.

5 month old Dell XPS 8500 Win 7 64 bit Pro as main computer connected by Wired Adapter, Upgraded Gateway 5632E also running Win 7 64 bit pro as second connected by Wireless. Both running Kapersky successfully. no network problems for 5 mo.
Both were successfully linked using homegroup. Had to take Gateway to a remote location to do a business demo. While there had to link to a local public WiFi. While connecting made mistake and left homegroup.
When Gateway returned to homebase a few days later it was fine, had no problems finding wireless but could not see or rejoin Dell machine homegroup. It would let me set up a new homegroup.
Went to Dell box and found 1) homegroup no longer existed, 2) router and network and wireless printing no longer found - Red X on the taskbar) even though internet was still working fine.
Took nearly a week of trying differernt fixes, on adapter- off adapter- different adapter reboot network, router, even updated router firmware (Yes I went through every ipconfig reset, renew, redecorate etc. I've used netsh functions to try to get evrything to reset. Changes services.msc settings per other posts. Finally in desperation, deleted every sub key in the registry related to network locational awareness and got the Dell to find the network, let me set it up as a "home" network and then even see the invitation to join the Gateway's homegroup.
Then I hit a wall- when I try to join- Win 7 says I can't join the homegroup because the network is not a "home network". Of course troubleshooting is useless and goes into an endless loop. Have searched in desperation for any way to make Win 7 return to a clean slate so it can sense that it really is on a home network without success. Applied the fix-it and hotpatch for when Win 7 gets stuck in public mode. No joy. Deleted the hide wizard subkey as suggested elsewhere. No Joy. Gut feeling says problem must lie in the NLA or peer networking somewhere but where?
Does anyone know of a method or set of steps (short of a clean reinstall of Win 7) to completely clear every thing the OS knows about my network and force it to acknowlege my network is a home network? Is there a registry hack that will clear the problem?
I know I could abandon the homegroup and do conventional file/print share but I am concerned that using that solution won't last as whatever is screwing up the homegroup could eventually screw regular sharing and then I'm back to reformating/reinstalling. I'm just about ready to join the Apple folks so I never have to work on Windows again.

On my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.

I had a terrible time trying to get my ASUS K52 laptop to sleep and hibernate (win 7 home premium). I scoured the net looking at all kinds of things like using the commands, powercfg -a,powercfg -devicequery wake_armed,sfc -scannow,I tried to boot into safe mode and never did figure out how to actually do that. And so on and so on.I was really motivated because if I was running on battery, it would just completely drain the battery and crash hard. The display would dim and turn off as expected but it would never sleep and certainly would not hibernate.I finally figured out one problem was that my wife was logged in on my laptop. I did not think that would be a problem. Sometimes she uses my computer when I am away and then do a "Switch user" but NOT a logout.Apparently, this will stop your laptop from sleeping. Once I logged her out, then it I could sleep at the expected time. But it still would not hibernate or turn off hard disk. So I went through all the advanced settings, yet again, in my power config window, everything made sense and I followed all the recommendations for the various settings I saw online. Finally just pressed "restore defaults" and Whaddya know?! Hibernate worked at the expected time. I used the "Balanced" power plan. Now, FINALLY, my laptop works as expected and I really like the "Sleep" mode and it goes to hibernate overnight to save even more power. I don't why it was so flaky before. It seemed like I had a virus that was monkeying with my power settings but it's been working perfectly for over a two weeks now so I think it's licked.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that will not connect to the internet. I can ping websites and get a reply, but Internet Explorer just hangs and I get Not Responding in Task Manager. I have ran Malwarebytes, AVG, and Microsoft Security Essentials. None of these show any viruses. I tried installing Microsoft Fix It, but it would not load. I get the same results if I boot in Safe Mode with Networking.

Soo its an Acer travelmate 4000 laptop, 1.6Ghz, 2gig ram, clean hard drive with two partitions , primary is 30 gig , secondary 120 gig.Windows 7 home prem OEM 32 bit It gets through the first part of the install (up to the first restart) then goes on to the screen shown in part 9 of the clean install guide, highlighting the "completing installation" message Clean Install Windows 7 then stops with the progress bar about 3/2rds of the way. The drive light flashes occasionally, but otherwise nothing,I formatted and partitioned the drive in another machine.

I bought an HP envy 14 beats edition and i've been trying to connect to my home internet, and while it seems to be connecting to the network, it wont connect to the internet. Its running windows 7, and I tried all the repairs that it prompted me to try, but could not resolve the issue. I know it isn't a internet problem, because the desktop is working and an xbox that connect wirelessly with no problems. At school the laptop wont' connect either. I tried diagnosing my wireless hardware and connection everything passes except the ping test. What does that signify?

I'm running a 3-station LAN (2 desktops, 1 laptop) all running Win7 and Webroot Internet Security Complete (all software -- system and applications -- is fully up-to-date) through an Apple Airport Express wireless router. My settings are consistent throughout (home network, same workgroup, advanced sharing settings). The two desktops are members of the same Homegroup. The problem is with the laptop. Even though it accesses the web with no problem, it doesn't see the two desktops and can't ping either of them or the router!I have administrative rights on all three PCs while my wife has standard rights on her desktop and the laptop. One strange condition occurs in Windows Explorer where, under the Network heading in the left column, the laptop appears in from both desktop PCs (but won't expand) while neither desktop appears from the laptop.
