Windows 7 Excessive RAM Usage?
Nov 21, 2011My windows 7 64bit PC is using 45% of my 12gig of RAM. Any suggestions? I'm sure you'll need me to provide more information, I'll provide any information you need.

Excessive Memory Usage In Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Jun 5, 2011I'm running Win7 Ultimate 32 bit and I believe it's using too much memory. When the system is idle and not even running Steam or Firefox, memory usage is 1.00 GB out of my 2.00 available. I run FRAPS and DisplayFusion (I have two monitors) in the background but they amount to roughly 20MB.I have also disabled most non-essential services as well as unnecessary boot programs. Usually I have ~45 processes running, 15 of which are user processes.I have already made efforts to streamline my OS, and the total memory usage of all my user processes amounts to just under 400 MB (with Firefox and Steam running). That's nice, and it's about what XP idled on.What the hell does Win7 do with 500-600 MB of phantom memory?

Feb 20, 2011Whenever I start my windows hard drive led is constantly on and my laptop is slow as hell. If I continue using it sometimes I get blue screen but always I have to restart at last. Second time I boot it's ok. I disabled all unnecessary services. I had got the same problem with Vista. Now I upgraded to this. 7 was working fine but now the same problem is back. I use acer aspire 6920 with 4g ram and 250gb western digital. 2.00 Ghz core due.

Nov 2, 2011I recently upgraded from a Packard Bell Denver 10/ 2GB RAM motherboard to an ASUS P5G41T-M/ 4GB RAM motherboard on my desktop, and kept my processor, a Pentium E2160 dual core, and I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. With the Packard Bell motherboard, after switching on the PC all applications start to power down on RAM use after 2 minutes, and this is shown in Task Manager/ Processes as it happens. With the ASUS motherboard, there is no powering down of RAM use, but a powering up instead. Running the same applications, the Packard Bell usually settled at 550MB in Performance/ memory; the ASUS is 1.01GB. Why is this?

Oct 6, 2009I have a Dell Workstation (Optiplex 760) with a fresh install of Windows 7. Right from the get go, I noticed that the second core is running around 20-30%. Taskmgr is not that helpful so I installed Process Explorer. While reviewing the cpu information, Hardware Interrupts bounces between 20 and 35%. I downloaded RATTV3 and created a log file.
After 5 minutes I checked the log file but to my disappointment the "Cumulative Histogram for:" is blank. It gives me all the information except the culprit!!! (bangs head on desk). After visiting Microsofts RATTV3 site, it states there is a known bug with vista and windows 7 in regards to displaying a blank value.
Is there any application available that can tell me the file name (drivers) that is causing the excessive hardware interrupts?
-- To give you a little background --
Windows 7 installed all drivers except HECI and SOL (AMT). I installed these which were available on Dell's website. Before these drivers were installed, I was still experiencing the second core cpu excessive usage.
There is nothing in task manager that points to high cpu usage (which is why I am using process manager).
I tried disabling common devices to see if the usage would drop down (all communication ports, NIC, Audio, HECI, SOL).
WLM Insert Pic Causes Excessive Mail SSize
Jun 6, 2011SkyDrive is not an option for our purpose nor is attaching files. They need to be embedded in the text. But inserting a picture increases the overall email filesize excessively. Attaching (not inserting) a 32k picture with nothing else causes the email to be 44k in size. If inserted, the email is 89k. In our situation, we're inserting multiple pictures, interspersed within text. These email sizes become very large. That's a problem as some recipients are still on very slow dialup. From my research I'm not sure but suspect WLM is both inserting the jpg in the text AND adding it to a slideshow. I'm not sure about that

Sep 10, 2011I have a ACER D255 netbook with intel atom N550 (1.5ghz, 1mb L2 cache) 1gb DDR3 memory and 250 gb hdd. lately it has been a tad slow and freezing up will using google chrome. my task manager says right now that CPU usage is 4% but Memory is at 75%, sometimes up to 90%. it also says that i have 89 processes running.

Oct 6, 2012i am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).

If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. Jun 10, 2009My Audiodg.exe process is currently using 2,786,070 kB (not just normal bytes, kilobytes) of Ram. 2.66gb+ of Ram! I have searched the web as well as this site for any problems. Apr 28, 2012I recently purchased a small laptop (ASUS X43U increased RAM 4GB) and only in the past 2 weeks or so the CPU usage has been fluctuating up to 100% and as low as 4% ish. The computer is making this horrible noise all the time (I've been told its the cooling fan..) and is driving me insane. I have a fully up to date antivirus software, no games or additives installed, and really only ever have 1 or 2 windows of Google Chrome open at one time.

Just to give a quick run-down of my system, I have:-- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor (2.2 GHz)-- 2GB DDR RAM-- 1GB Diamond Radeon 3650HD Video CardThe rest of my setup is a basic desktop machine -- plenty of storage space, etc. It runs XP Professional (32-bit) just fine. I installed the Vista x64 driver for my video card last night; it installed successfully, but did not seem to help much.

I have been reading that the bloatware that comes with the computer (sony vaio stuff) can contribute to this (you may notice there are 99 processes). This surge (picture) occurred when I opened chrome but it was listed as using up around 25MB, which was also the largest program by memory usage. Jul 5, 2012About a month ago my HP laptop began running very slow when I played any type of video. When i looked the CPU was at 100%. This could be a dvd, netflix, utube, flash, media player. It would continue to run slow after any of these applications were closed. If I restarted or let it go into sleep mode it would operate fine until I started a video of some sort. Ran every virus and malware program under the sun and no problems found. To rule out a hardware issue I restored the laptop to "out of box" state. Initially everything seemed fine. I played a dvd for 45 minutes and it was fine CPU never went about 10%. Satisfied that my virus was gone i started doing the windows updates. Tried to play a video last night and the CPU usage is back to 100% when i put in a dvd. HP dv7, i7, 8gb RAM.
