My computer memory usage is @ 100%. I have started my computer in safe mode and ran malware & panda antivirus to clean up my computer. When I reboot it runs great; however, the second time that I reboot-- it starts the memory usage @ 100% again. This is a vicious cycle.
View 11 RepliesI have a ACER D255 netbook with intel atom N550 (1.5ghz, 1mb L2 cache) 1gb DDR3 memory and 250 gb hdd. lately it has been a tad slow and freezing up will using google chrome. my task manager says right now that CPU usage is 4% but Memory is at 75%, sometimes up to 90%. it also says that i have 89 processes running.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).

If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. It remains like that. I have to restart via reset button or power button.

I just built a new computer and started with 8GB of memory. A few weeks down the line I purchased another set of the same memory because it was on such a good deal and had great reviews (newegg). It also was working well for me, so I figured maybe more could be better.
I haven't noticed any decrease/increase in system performance except Alt-Tabbing has recently got slower. Also, Windows 7 was sitting tight on 1.3gb to 2gb of memory usage prior to the extra 8 (now 16) being added. Even when gaming, it went up to like 3gb. Now that I've added the extra it's going up to 4.5gb or better. Also, is it possible to speed up my alt-tabbing? It seems to have a good 3-4 second pause in it instead of being immediate like it was.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new computer. It has Windows 7, 2.67Ghz i5, 450GB HD, and 4GB RAM. I am getting crazy surges in my Memory usage. I have been reading that the bloatware that comes with the computer (sony vaio stuff) can contribute to this (you may notice there are 99 processes). This surge (picture) occurred when I opened chrome but it was listed as using up around 25MB, which was also the largest program by memory usage. Can someone please explain how I can lower my memory usage? It has surged to 100% a couple of times before and i have only had this computer for 2 days! The computer averages 65% when I am simply surfing the web.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi've got 4 gb of ram, and using windows 7 64bit. my normal day to day memory usage is usually 1.2gb-1.8gb, that's using firefox, chrome etc... however recently i've started getting these events where for a couple of minutes at a time (sometimes until i close a particular program), my system will be using every single available piece of memory. not only does my memory usage reach 100%, my other programs (firefox, chrome, skype etc...) that are open start getting 'squeezed' out; i'm guessing they are getting relocated to the stack. for example, usually my firefox is running on about 150-400mb of memory. during these incidents and for some time after it gets squashed to 18mb, with the same number of tabs open etc... when the event ends, memory usage drops down to 900mb in one instant. what's also interesting is that my cpu usage drops down while this is happening, in fact during these periods it's quite lower than usual (usage doesn't seem to go above 10%).i've tried finding out what this is, however on task manager and resource monitor, there is no program that is using that much memory. basically, on the performance tab, it's telling me i'm using 3.9gb of memory, on the processes tab the sum of the memory used by all the programs there can't be more than 500mb (in fact during these fits the total goes down as the programs gets squashed out). so from that, at least from what i know, i'm guessing either it's a virus (i hope not and doubt it, i don't dl random stuff and i got kaspersky iss), or it's my windows 7 os which doesn't show up on processes. so i was wondering, is it possible that this is windows 7? i've never heard of this kind of bug, and i haven't been messing with setting recently, but i can't think what else it could be.also: i've noticed that these events can sometimes get triggered by particular events. for example, so far, everytime i've opened divx, this has happened, and it also lasted exactly until i closed divx; however it's not exclusively linked to divx. it happened once when i was just watching Internet, and another time when i was searching my disk for a particular file.

Just a few days ago I've started to have an issue where after my computer is running for a couple hours all processes continually increase the amount of memory they are using until I get an out of memory error. Here is a pic of it around 75%. I have 8 gigs of ram (kingston) that before this never went above 4gigs of use, so not sure what is causing this suddenly.

I'm running Win7 Ultimate 32 bit and I believe it's using too much memory. When the system is idle and not even running Steam or Firefox, memory usage is 1.00 GB out of my 2.00 available. I run FRAPS and DisplayFusion (I have two monitors) in the background but they amount to roughly 20MB.I have also disabled most non-essential services as well as unnecessary boot programs. Usually I have ~45 processes running, 15 of which are user processes.I have already made efforts to streamline my OS, and the total memory usage of all my user processes amounts to just under 400 MB (with Firefox and Steam running). That's nice, and it's about what XP idled on.What the hell does Win7 do with 500-600 MB of phantom memory?

I have the free AVG installed as my anti virus program and I believe that I am getting some inaccurate reports from it. The following has happened three times witnin the past couple of weeks: A message pops up that says, "AVG has reported Internet Explorer is in high memory usage. It is recommended that you close some of the programs that are open." Those may not be the exact words but basically that is what it was telling me. I had no applications open and had only two or maybe three at the most pages open. I would certainly think that 4GB of memory would take care of having three pages open in IE. Could it be that AVG is just giving some false reports?

Windows 7 sp1 on hp 6550 probook, i5 450M processor with 8gb ram.
Been using this machine for 2 years no problem, suddenly its all freezing up. Any app I start sits and goes to "not responding" and eventually returns, even windows explorer takes minutes to open a folder. Browsers take forever to load a page. Its exactly like a memory leak or a process sucking all the memory, but in task manager cpu usage is v low about 10%, memory usage v low about 40% of 8gb, and no one process is taking lots of memory, Ive rebooted several times no change Ive installed all latest updates no change Ive run scannow and no issues were found Ive run a chkdsk on response was volume is clean ( almost instantly?) Cpu temp is fine at around 55 C
Ive run malwarebytes and found no malware Ive run a full virus scan with Avira and no viruses
Ive done a system restore to as far back as I could go (only to this morning) but no help.
I`m having serious problems with my windows 7 machine. It started yesterday when I was getting blank screens. TOday I turned on and its running very slow, freezing up and i noticed an svchost.exe process was using about 6gb of ram. I had to reboot about 5 times just to geta taskmanager up and then it would freeze up again. I tried a windows restore to about 4 days before incase it was some virus but it hasnt fixed the problem. Everything is ok in safe mode and i`ve tried running dr web virus checker aswell as installing norton antivirus and malwarebytes on an old windows xp installation on the same pc but theyre not finding anything.
Really dont fancy having to reinstall windows.
I have 6GB of ram installed on windows 7 64-bit ultimate. For some reason I'm noticing that the usage will rise past 50%, but I am unable to find all of the used resources. From what I found, I'm using roughly 3.2GB of RAM when I add up all the memory usage under the processes tab.

I left PC to run over night and i find dead PC in the morning.
It usualy runs with 600-700MB when i run PC, but after some time running Flashget i got 1,7GB+ untill PC stop respond (it has only 2GB of RAM)

When i turn off download manager, memory still stay high. Only restart helps.
Somebody said that i have too litlle memory for 64-bit Windows. Lets say thats true, will 2GB more be enouf? (4GB total) and how i will find same memory moduls almost 1,5 year after I bought this PC? Can they be different?
just installed windows 7 7260 on my friend's laptop. but he only has 512MB of memory. Is there information on tweaking memory usage, I want to keep memory usage to minimum so that he won't have memory problems. I already suggested he should upgrade to 1GB, but for the time being I would like to know if there is way to tweak the memory usage, like stop services that are not needed or frequently used.

For information, I am using Windows Seven Ultimate (build 7600) with RAM 1 GB, Intel Core i3 M350 @ 2.27 GHz.
When I hit task manager, the Physical Memory:

Cached : 85
Available : 81
Free : 0
Physical Memory average 92% all the time (currently I am using Windows Classic for it is known as the simplest and lowest taking memory of windows setting). If I am using it in normal Windows Seven Aero Themes, my laptop has a big chance to go Blue Screen.
Yes, I gotta tell you that my laptop got Blue Screen suddenly after previous days I set administrator and user password in BIOS. I thought at that time it is just because of it, then after I reset it to default way (no password at all) the system is still has a big chance to go Blue Screen.
I have tried to clean up with Ccleaner, defrag all my disks, using spyware malware removal, and it give me no positive result at all. It is still always goes above 800MB Memory usage with Physical Memory average above 80% all the time.
I have a Sony with win 7 64-bit and 4 gigs of ram. About a month ago I started to notice my computer running slower. When I checked windows task manager (performance) it was using 3.5 gigs of my memory. I restarted the computer and it went down to 1.5. I have on occasion had to restart twice to get the memory down.
