View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using a 4GB Toshiba USB flash drive on my computer & also on USB ports stereos. All of a sudden the drive has started appearing write protected and I cannot add or delete any files on the drive. This is very surprising as I havent found any answer as to how can I remove the write protect thing and use my drive normally. The other thing is that the drive has no write protection switch to control it.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy girlfriend gave my her USB Flash Drive (LINK) and said, that it was write protectet. As you can see, this USB drive doesnt have any switch at all. She gave it to a friend of her, who used it to copy some data to her notebook and after my girlfriend got it back, the drive was write protected and it wasnt possible to write anything on it.My girlfried thinks her friend didnt remove the stick properly or maybe removed to early.
1. After that I tried to use the drive on several computers to check, if only my girlfriends MacBook was the Problem:
My notebook: Sony Vaio VPC CB3S1E with Windows 7
Her Macbook: MacBook Pro 13" Max OS X Lion
My notebook using Ubuntu 12.04 disc version
PC's in university which use Windows XP.
2. After we saw that the flash drive wasnt working on either of the systems, I looked on the internet for a solution. I did the same things which are described in THIS thread under Step 1 to 4.
3. Then I used HP Format Utility like Step 4 said. I used the software and now her MacBook doesnt recognize the flash drive at all and Windows 7 does recognize it, but when i click on it, Windows says that I have to insert a removable media in E:
4. Now that the flash drive wasnt usable at all, I tried to the other steps (1, 2, 3, 5 & 6), which where described in the thread but nothing works.
I recently turned my usb into bootable usb in order to run chrome os,everything was ok untill i needed my usb to transfer some files so when i plugged it in while running windows 7 a box popped up to format it i clicked ok,then i noticed the usb from 8 giga showed up as 1 giga in my computer.I opened disk management and saw that it was cutted down in many partitions, i deleted some of them so i would expand it in one partition,at that point my trouble began, the expand option was greyed out,i tried diskpart and delete the partitions there. After that the drive lost its assign letter and showed up as one partition in disk management but in my computer it was invisible,i tried other guides that use diskpart and i download some programs to fix this with no luck.when i tried to format or assign letter from disk management i get this message "the system cannot find the file specified usb format".I tried to plug the usb in my roomates laptop with the same resaults so i dont think its my drivers or laptop problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.

Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?

I've got a 1gb Pendrive, used to work.. but it spewed up 'Corrupt files' errors, and then finally gave up completely. It won't open, and asks to format it, I've tried every option it gives me but it won't format.. Supposedly, it's got 0 bytes of space, but on Disk management, it's 969MB RAW format, but it's a healthy primary partition. Formatting isn't doing anything, so.. It's pretty important! I need the USB to flash my BIOS, which will then unlock my CPU settings (It's a modded BIOS Btw.) so I can Overclock my E6300. So.
