I am trying Windows 7 professional 64bit is trying to update my PC now for the umpteenth time. I ask it to download and update. It tells me that it has updated and needs to restart. When it restarts, it has a couple of attempts at configuring the updates and lets me use Windows. When I turn my PC off, I get a 'Do not turn off, etc'. When I start my PC and check to see if the install worked, I am told it hasn't.
View 8 RepliesSince the beginning of August my Win 7 system installs updates at shutdown and then at the beginning of the next bootup, it tries to configure the updates and fails. I'm pretty sure it's the same updates. How can I find out what updates these are and stop this from happening? View 19 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded and installed a set of Windows Updates that came out on 4/26. I had about 8 of them. 4 of them installed successfully but 4 of them were downloaded and installed(on shutdown) but fail to configure on startup. The four I'm having issues with are:

KB2515325
KB2522422
KB982018
Each of these are updates for Windows 64-bit. I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with these as well. I plan on waiting a day or two and try again. I've tried twice today with no success.For future reference, what can cause an update to fail to configure?
Windows Update now says, "Restart your computer to install important updates." When I do, the computer shuts down, saying "Preparing to configure updates..." When it restarts, it says, "Configuring updates, 100% completed" then restarts again. Upon reaching the welcome screen this time, it says "Failed to configure updates, reverting changes...Welcome" and returns me to my desktop. At this point, when I try to manually check for new updates (or if I just leave Windows Update alone until it checks itself), Windows Update tells me "Restart your computer to install important updates," and the process loops again, so I cannot check for updates.

I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?

I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. Chrome works for a while and the she gets the AW SNAP message.

I am currently running Windows 7 x86 Home Premium. I want to take full advantage of the 6gb of RAM I have installed, so I want to upgrade to x64.
After booting up from the x64 OS disc, the system loads the files. (Including the loading progress bar.) Then proceeds to a screen that says "Starting Windows", but before the logo appears (Or any signs of the OS installing), I get a BSOD every time.

EDIT: My computer is NOT prebuilt. I had Windows XP for several years, but installed Windows 7 x86 a few days ago.
I am having difficulty getting my computer to install Windows 7 from an external hd. take a look through the steps I followed below, I believe I may have missed something very basic (I'm not a power user).
1.I put an iso image of windows 7, 32bit onto my computer
2.downloaded/installed 'easeUSpartition master'; used it to shink the partition w/with data on external hd, created a new partition of the free space remaining on the hd; set new partition as 'active'.
3.used magic iso to extract files from the iso image of windows 7 32 bit installer onto the active partition that was created from the free space on the external hd.
4.reset computer, on startup went into bios, set USB flash drive to #1 position of boot order, set setting to 'enable boot from external drive', saved and exited.
5.on subsequent restarts, the computer restarts as it normally does, I do not see any messages during startup (e.g. 'push any key to boot from external drive').
Every time I try to create a new library or even right click on library Explorer stops working and restarts.

The only problem is that when I boot from the installation CD I get a memory management error. I know that my CPU is 64-bit capable as well as my video card. As for everything else I am not sure of. What is a way to fix this problem because I desperately need to upgrade to 64-bit.

I have an old H45 Tech enclosure from 10+ years ago, and had placed it in there to prep for NAS, as the NAS was not recognizing it either. Because I could not get it to read in the h45 box-- I was able to get it to format 128gb's of it, but I wanted the whole thing formatted to use all 238...gb of the drive, so, I bought a dynex 3.5" disc enclosure, it just arrived today, and while it read, and installed on my laptop, it would not allow me to format it. In going into storage mgmt, it said that it was not allocated, and asked me to select an option-- mbr, or as a secondary.
In looking at the notes, it said that the secondaries are only good for larger than 2tb drives. So, I selected the mbr, and got a message stating there is an i/o error in attempting to format it. Now, in plugging it in to check the message for specifics, it won't even recognize it, so now I can't even get to tell you the specific message. The pins are set to read cable select. I'm running Win7 Ultimate on a GW-M285 convertible, 500gb drive, 4gb ram.
I did search out this problem...very old posts recommended I start a new thread.For the last 2 weeks every time I shut down automatic install...installs the same 8 updates.

"An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data"
Not really sure what that means, but my guess is thats a file that it isn't finding. My pic isn't very clear, the Status is 0xc000000f, again not sure what that means. This machine has been running and well behaved for a long time.
After I upgrade installed 7057 on top of 7000, I got the following error message when attempting to have the system rated for WEI: Could not measure storage performance.
The disk cannot be accurately assessed while write caching is disabled. Before re-running the Disk assessment, check the Device Manager option to enable write caching.
I attempted to get the write caching enabled, but error message said "Windows could not change the write-caching setting for this device."
Any remedy?
I have an GeForce GTX 570. It has two DVI ports. I'm attempting to connect my TV to my computer using a component cable (using a component-DVI adapter), however, when I attempt to do this, the TV flashes black/blue.
The TV recognizes a second monitor, as I can see a second screen under "screen resolution". When I was turning off my PC, strangely, I could see the shutdown sequence on the TV (the picture was wavy/flickering though).

im trying to set up dual monitors. Right now i have my main monitor as my LCD tv, and i have a vga splitter from my only vga port sending out two vga cables, one to my tv and the other to the monitor my computer came with. im trying to use the monitor it came with as my second monitor where i can do things on both, but its only cloned from my main one. when i go into control panel> appearance and personalization> display > display settings > detect , it will not find my second monitor. So do u need 2 vga ports for this to work? or is there anything i can download that would allow me to use the second monitor as its own and not a clone? this probably sounds really confusing so if i have to reword it i will, just trying to find out if im wasting my time by trying to do this

View 1 Replies View Relatedevery time i boot up before it lets me sign on, a windows configuring comes on every single time for about to weeks now, and its taking about five minutes to boot up after. i do music and my editing programs and video programs and wmplayer now freeze and skip about every 7 to 10 seconds, making my work impossible.ive tired system restore but it wont let me create a earlier date, or go past the date of the nov 18 2011.before it was showing a black screen when i would boot up and would say" corrupt file sytem ntfs, said their was a corrupt file do to a recent update fail or installed, so i have went to windows and installed every update i could, now the black screen doesnt come on , but the freeze in my programs and media continues as well the boot up. but here whats wierd cuz if i watch videos online or listen to music online there is no freeze? just on when offline?
