Printer Software Repeatedly Corrupted?

Jun 11, 2011

Windows 7 64 Working for a gentleman who bought a Sony laptop from Costco about a year ago. This 'issue' has been going on for quite some time (6 months or so). I am not sure what goes on with 'daily' use of the computer as I work/help sporadically. The gentleman is older and does not understand how discriminating one must be when surfing online; he has done his fair share of 'clicking' whatever pops up. I mention this because something is interfering with software... The problem: We download the drivers for HP Officjet Pro L7650 All In One. We choose the download with the whole nine yards so that we can scan, fax, print, etc. We are wireless. The download is quick and easy. The printer works just fine. A few days or maybe a week later... we choose 'print' and get a message: 'Windows applications does not recognize the printer...". Costco offers a 'concierge' line... you can call and trouble shoot. They have had me on the phone with HP... I am confident that I am 'cleaning' the computer and not installing the same drivers and software on top of the old ones. The 'concierge' says that the software is being corrupted... by 'something'. One fellow said that Windows 7 has this issue when the updates are installed... however, it's happening all the time.

Unicode Characters Failing To Display Properly (Font Settings May Be Repeatedly Corrupted Upon Restart)

Nov 13, 2011

For some reason Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64-bit) has recently stopped displaying Unicode characters correctly. I know its a Windows issue, not specific to a certain program, because the problem appears on Asian characters and symbols like the stars in my song ratings across various programs like foobar2000, Mp3Tag, and iTunes. I don't think they work anywhere; I just happen to notice their absences (replaced by ugly square placeholders) in my media-related programs. One interesting thing is that restoring my default font settings via Control Panel appears to fix the problem every other time I restart (ie, I might be able to get Unicode working correctly if I always restore the default font settings before restarting or rebooting my PC - but that is heinously annoying).

The only possible cause I can think of is that I have had some programs to modify the Windows UI such as GDI++ to make the fonts Mac-like (decided ClearType was better rather quickly :P) and pieces of Stardock's suite including programs like WindowsBlinds, IconPackager, etc. I somewhat recently uninstalled all of them, but I didn't notice the problem right away, so I am not sure if they have anything to do with it.

Windows 7 Won't Boot - No Operating System Listed / System Partition Not Valid

Oct 19, 2011

Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.

- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.

I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi

My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.

Windows System Corrupted?

Dec 15, 2012

System:
AMD Phenom II x6 t1055
Biostar A770E3 / A78XAA3S-R03 v6.0
2x4GB Kingston pc3-10600 (1333Mhz), just new installed.
ATI HD5750 True Color
Windows 7 x32 & x64 Ultimate NL Retail

I had some issues after doing what an Anti Virus software asked me to do and register cleaning.Windows looked acting slow and some futures (both still) don't work.I have to mention that I had a bad memory that killed two slots on the main baord.Previously the Windows 7 x32 didn't start completally, it didn't get to the login screen. The mouse pointer was vissable and the screen was black.

I looked on the net for answers, but found non. So, I tried to expermimanted some F8 functions ad the MBR screen. I found one that did work, something for domein users. All the other options didn't work.I got it started (safe mode) and deleted the last month installed software.Did a chkdsk /F and restarted. [URL]I found one site with the command sfc /scannow to check the system files and fix them. After a while (not minutes as it says) I got the notification that not all system files could be fixed. It installed a log file ad WindowsLogCBS about 24MB.How to fix these errors?no reinstallation. I have software that came from GiveawayOfTheDay, the software can only be installed once.Or,After a reinstall, would it be possible to reinstall the software from the Old installation. Actually stupid to do, can have bugs too.

Is there a total Windows 7 x32/x64 repair disk that comes with the programs itseld and can check the net for information and can install and deinstall software for download?I forgot to burn the one that came with Windows 7.I downloaded a Repair disk, but it kept asking for Backup and Command prompt didn't work either.Guess, the DVD program did need those files on the Windows HDD installation too.Autoback up was disabled, don't know how. So, no backup at all. No restore points either.

Virus Corrupted Windows System Repair Tool

Oct 8, 2012

I have had the generic.win virus on my computer for a while now due to my anti virus program not being able to remove it. It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines. However I believe that the virus has corrupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where I can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool.

When I try to run the system repair tool I know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ultimately restore my computer. Unfortunately it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I just want a virus free computer. My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files.

All File Associations Corrupted For Windows 7 Account - System Restore?

Jan 20, 2013

Windows 7 Pro 64 SP1. He has 2 accounts on his PC (administrator, and 'user'). Both have admin privileges. When he logged in this morning using his user account, the file associations for all applications appear to have been corrupted. In his user account, all programs launch with the IE download manager which gives me an option to run or save. When 'run' is selected from IR download manager, a window quickly flashes on the screen and closes. I am unable to run any application including windows explorer, regedit, cmd, etc, including system restore.

He has Symantec Endpoint which also launched in IE download manager. My friend does not recall installing anything recently. I tried booting in safe mode and logging into the user account and the behavior is exactly the same. When I log in using the admin account (in regular mode) everything seems to be fine. The system restore option is available as are all the file associations. A Symantec scan using the admin account shows nothing other than a single tracking cookie. The only thing I can think of doing is a system restore from the admin account but thought I'd post this to the group to see if there was something else I should try first.

Stuck On Starting Windows - Repair Shows System Volume On Disk Corrupted

Oct 19, 2011

I have had Win 7 installed for a while now).

Here is a summary of my problem:
1) My computer recently got stuck on the "Starting Windows Screen." So I manually held the power button to reboot.
2) On reboot, it said there was a need to run a startup repair, which I did. Everything checked fine, except for the last one which said "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted," which it claimed to have successfully fixed.
3) After rebooting from repair, the system gets stuck on "Starting Windows Screen" for a good 10-15 minutes, after which it runs a registry check. After it completes that I get hopeful -- but the screen then gets stuck on an all black screen with just the mouse cursor and nothing more.
4) Additional note: Attempting to start the computer on "safe mode" leads safe mode startup to become stalled on "DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS"
5) The lastest attempt to repair yielded this message: "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

Using Another Operating System While On Windows 7

May 29, 2011

I've just recently installed one of my favorite old games, Starcaft. after playing it for about a week I've found out that there is a 100 milisecond delay on any action you make when using Windows 7. I desided to hook up my old hard drive and It's telling me that it's corrupt, has a virus, I believe because the mother board doesn't recognize it I think. Is there any way that I'd be able to get that hard drive working or maybe ever use it as a second drive, some how?

Corrupted File System After Chkdesk

Jul 3, 2011

I have an Acer Aspire 5734Z with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed and ever since I got my computer I've been having trouble starting Windows normally. Like many time before, a week ago my computer started again freezing at the Windows logo every time I put it on. Here's what I tried to do to get things back to normal: 1. I ran CHKDSK /r, and got my computer working, Two days later, I had the same problem. So, I ran CHKDSK /r (found 48 unreadable file segments, deleted 60 index entries, corrected and deleted file names..), but it froze at stage 3 of 5, "verifying indexes", and after 19 hours I shut it down. Still having the same freezing problem, I ran CHKDSK /r once again (found 13 bad clusters..) and I noticed the line "Windows has made corrections to the file system". After the check was complete Windows wouldn't still start. I tried all the different Safe Modes, but got stuck at loading "windowssystem32DRIVERSAVGIDSEH.sys" or the file after that.

Operating System Not Found (windows 7)

Sep 15, 2011

I'm been working on this problem for over a day now and now I'm stumped.I've read dozens of threads and blogs all over the internet concerning this "operating system not found" problem but none of their problems seem to be the problem that I have.My computer just got extremely laggy and froze into a BSOD (blue screen of death) before turning off and showing me the "operating system not found" message during every boot.Usually when this problem showed up, it turned out to be a hard drive failure, but when I checked my bios, it listed my hard drive as 320gb. (So I'm guessing this has nothing or little to do with my hard drive.)

Here are the things I have tried: Safe modesThe "Launch Startup Repair" (ends up with at start up background and doesn't progress any further)The "Windows Memory Diagnostic""Last Known Good configuration"I've transfered the windows 7 .iso to a bootable usb and started up the laptop it got to the Install Now window and when I press that, the window closes and it shows "setup starting" and just stays like that. The only part that seems to be working like it's supposed to is the quick start/splashtop browser option that doesn't startup anything. (It only opens a browser for internet use and no other programs).I'm guessing the next step should be to open up my laptop and see if any of the cables are loose.ut after that I don't know what else I could do.

Edit- I have just checked and now the operating system not found message doesn't show up. when I start up with regular settings, it just gets to a blue screen and restarts.

Windows 7 Says Operating System Not Found?

Dec 8, 2010

My computer fell a couple days ago, and I had to get a new hard drive. nfortunately, my mother let my uncle who is NOT a professional install a "new" hard drive, which was actually his old one and came with Linux and not Windows. It worked fine but I wanted Windows, so he did something and installed Windows 7 from a flash drive. And it was great. Until this afternoon, when I accidentally changed the BIOS order and now I'm getting an "operating system not found" message... Is there something wrong with the hard drive (again, it isn't new) or did I just completely mess something up?
